If you want to use EZMount with your stamps and acrylic blocks, then the answer is yes, you remove the foam backing that is already on the rubber, and replace it with EZMount. Most of us get it from www.sundayint.com
OK, remember when we were kids and had Colorforms? The little stickers that you attached and made a scene, and then took off and reattached? Same principle. If you convert your wood mounted stamps to acrylic and EZMount, you don't have all the wood anymore. Once you take the foam off the back of your stamps and apply the EZMount (which does have foam also) the part of the EZMount that sticks to the acrylic block is like colorforms. You can take off and reposition time and time again. The advantages of doing this is you don't have to store all the wood blocks, and you only have a few different sizes of acrylics. You just mount your stamp onto the acrylic block, stamp, clean, and take the stamp back off. If you have a long acrylic block, it's great for alphabets because you can line up your letters on the block and see where you are placing them. I haven't done it with all my stamps yet - waiting to see what SU! is going to do since I have to demo with them, but am in the process of converting all of the retired sets that I am keeping, and whatever I buy from other companies also. I am also doing this with some of my SAB sets that I got for me but haven't demoed with. I really wish SU! would allow us this possibility. I like the rubber - don't get me wrong. In fact, I prefer the rubber stamps to the acrylic stamps that CTMH has, but just the whole idea of being able to cut down on storage is such an advantage!
If you have brand new SU stamps that have not yet been mounted could you leave the foam on the stamps and just use the clear vinyl cling (without the foam).
Just a note, I run a store and sell nothing buy EZMounted stamps to save my customers money. I ordered the cling vinyl from Sunday and called to ask if we were doing something wrong since it would not stick and hold. They told me they do not recommend it for the stamps unless you leave about a 1/2" around the stamp base and even then, it may or maynot work. I did stump them when I placed a reorder for the vinyl and they called me to ask what I was using it for. I told them you can print on it with an ink jet printer and emboss for beautiful overlays!
So what is the basic difference between the cling vinyl and the EZ mount? Is EZ mount stickier? Because I have used some cling vinyl and I haven't been completely satisfied, but I have some acrylic stamps and LOVE them. Is it more like the acrylic stamps in stickiness?
I'm confused! Why would you want to put SU stamps on these blocks? When CTMH went to acrylic, all I heard was complaints. I really hope SU doesn't go this way.
Thanks,
Mary
I love the CTMH alphabets, I don't think I woud buy any others... except the Collage. I can line up all my words on the acrylic block just the way I want them, and if you have enough of the letters you can say a lot on a large block! After inking up you can see through the acrylic and look to see if the ink has been grabed by the paper or if you need a little more pressure in a spot. I filled the whole inside of my Christmas cards with what looked like personal messages by just changing the few letters for the name and stamped away. I was awesome! I could never do that with letters mounted on wooden blocks it would take forever!
It's not SU going acrylic--it's could SU go unmounted on wood. I love my rubber stamps -- all of them. Storage is a problem with the wood mounts. I store my UMs in CD cases. I have a ton of them in very little space.
But I admit, my faves always end up with a wood mount eventually.
I have used both types of stamps- wood mounted and not, and I have to tell you, if Stampin' up changes to acrylic blocks and an unmounted system- I'm done. Aside for being a space saver, I do not care for the quality of the rubber, or the way it stamps! I won't use anything but the wood mounted !

I think what the optimum would be is if SU would continue to sell their WM stamps AND sell unmounted rubber--that way you could mount the sets to which ever system you prefer--HALOS, EZmount, vinyl cling, etc. The complaint with CTMH is not the acrylic blocks, but the acrylic stamps (images). They take ink strangely, ink covererage on the acrylic stamp is tricky. For instance, I have one of the new CTHM sets. There was a cute flower I wanted to use markers on. I have no idea why, but it would take summer sun, pink passion but not the garden green marker. I cleaned the stamp repeatedly, with no improvement. The green marker ink just kept beading up and being blotchy when stamped. Then a friend that was over said why don't you try the garden green ink pad. Sure enough, the pad applied the ink in such a way that I could get a decent image! How weird is that?!

It's the exact same rubber! In fact, it's the same stamp!!
Imagine if your wood blocks were clear. That's what some of us like. We put the wonderful SU rubber stamps onto clear blocks instead of onto wood.
The advantages are that you can see through the block and see exactly where you are stamping, you can mount multiple stamps on a single block in a set arrangement, and you store the stamps unmounted in much less space. The clear block just happens to be 1/2 inch thick plexiglass (or acrylic) but it is nothing like the clear, flexible, "acrylic" stamps that CTMH sells.
I, personally, would love it if we had a choice. I love how easy it is to stamp with unmounted stamps, but the best part is storage. Imagine all of your stamps taking up 1/4 of the room of your current wood mounted stamps!
Think of this advantage: Your DH would see much less, thinking you would have spent less $$$ (Actaully, you would spend less; making and shipping the wood is as expensive as the rubber!)
The only reason I keep wood on mine is because unmounted stamps have a lower re-sale value...
I love the clear blocks. You can position your stamps in an interesting composition before inking no guessing of their position. Imagine using acrylic for two step stamping, everything can be lined up accurately. Storage is also great. I have 300 stamps in 2 three ring binders. I wanted to take some stamps on vacation it was so easy! Is this a rumor or does anyone know if SU is planning to go acrylic
if you have nnew SU stamps that have not yet been mounted on the wood, can you just peel off the SU cushion or do you need to microwave the rubber to do this too?

I bought two sets of the new Acrylix from CTMH and really don't like them. I would die if SU! went this route. Their rubber gives such a good impression and I don't mind that I can't see through the block. I realize it would save space, but I am such an SU! fan. Just my $.02 on that tidbit.
I heard that SU! said that they would never go to acrylics but I was just thinking earlier that it might be cool if they offer stamp sets in either WM or unmounted to use with the acrylic blocks. My Dh's aunt was introduced to stamping through CTMH and she hates the acrylic images but likes the acrylic blocks. Maybe it could be an option since they used to offer foam or wood mounted.
Can someone please help me with directions for taking my new unmounted SU stamps and putting them on EZ Mount? I read through the posts and it says to remove something from the SU stamps but I don't quite have a clear picture. I assumed that I just took the sticky side of the SU stamps and stuck that to the sticky side of the EZ Mount. Can someone please help to to understand if this is what I need to do. Also, I have a set that I have already mounted if I wanted to change it to acrylic what would I need to do.

Here's my technique:
1. Peel the unmounted SU stamp off of the foam.
2. Remove any foam residue from the back of the stamp (it should rub off but you may prefer to use Goo Gone).
3. Trim the stamp.
4. Adhere the stamp to the sticky side of the EZ Mount and then trim off the excess foam.
I sort my stamps by category (flowers, animals, Christmas, etc.) and store them by category in the SU Jumbo plastic cases. Then I use the stamp images (the ones I used to put on the wood block) to add the image to my personal "stamp catalog". It's a 1 inch binder with white, 8.5 x 11 cs - one sheet per jumbo case. I just stick the image of the new stamp to the sheet for that case and I'm set. Whenever I am looking for a stamp, I flip through my catalog and then grab the stamp out of the case. I have all of my stamps stored in just 15 jumbo cases. Each case has 2 layers of EZ mounted stamps and I tend to keep the smaller stamps on the bottom layer so that I only have to remove a few large stamps from the second layer to see beneath it. You can buy 3-hole punch index sheets that the EZ Mount will stick to and store your stamps in binders but I found that the binder got pretty heavy and I am afaid of a stamp falling out and getting lost when I travel. I am also a pretty big nerd about organizing my stuff so I make a photocopy of the SU sticker sheet for every new set I buy. I trim the copy and mount it onto a 5 x 7 index card and file by Stamp Set. One the back of the index card, I write the location (jumbo case number) of each stamp and any other details of the set that I want to remember.
