Mounting of and Faux Stitching with All in a Row

I received several questions on how I mounted and use my All in a Row.
I figure I post the answers here.

Mounting:
I mounted the set the way it is shown in the catalog:
Two borders stuck together on one wood block.

I had thought about cutting them apart, but was afraid they would be to flimsy and hard to stamp with after cutting them.

Stamping:
I do not use a stamp-a-majic. Most of all...because I am too lazy for that tool. LOL

I can position it pretty well by slouching down to look under the stamp while I position it.

I try to have the Argyle stamp in the middle of both cardstock pieces.

I stamp it and then rock it a bit towards the lower layer to ensure that it will get part of the stamped image as well.

I love the possibilities of the Happiness background, but I didn't know how to mount it. Lori Craig showed on her blog that her husband cut her block in small wood strips for each background. She had an extra block she used.

I didn't have an extra wood block like Lori. I left a couple of small borders together. Rick (my DH) cut the wood block for me in six pieces.

Two blocks have two backgrounds stuck together. One wood block is double mounted.

I LOVE using the backgrounds now.

Thanks for your explanation. I have this set and have hardly used it, but will be using it more not for sure. So are you inking it on the side of the stamp pad or using a marker to ink the row you want? Thanks for your help!

Beate, I do not know the length of this set - does it usually fit on your cards without having to "pick it up and stamp again in another area" or does it fit without doing that? Also, could you take a picture of the other side of the stamp (showing how you cut these?). Thanks, Wanda

Sorry I forgot to mention the inking up part.

If my stitches are black or chocolate, I use the small stampin' spots in that color. I only ink up the one row that I need. Most of the time it's the open Argyle stamp.
If I need a different color, I use the big ink pad really carefully. Make sure you don't ink up the second border stamp.

Just in case though, I always face the uninked stamp away from the paper, never towards the middle. I learned the hard way...

Stampinwithlove....I will take a picture as soon as it's light enough.
The stamps are about 4" long. You will have to reink and line up if you stamp the long side of the card.

Great idea! I always forget about the spots. They would be much handier for inking only a portion of the stamp. Thanks for the reminder.

A great tip I saw at regionals last year is to cover the part of the stamp you DON'T want to ink with Scotch tape. After inking, just pull off the tape before stamping.

I taught faux stitchin a la Beate at my last class. We used low-tack masking tape to mask off the corners of the cardstock piece so we would have nice mitered corners. I also told them to use the tape to mask off the solid diamonds on the other side of the stamp while they're inking . Just be sure to remove the tape before you stamp!!! This prevents the ghosting that can sometimes happen if you have a less then sterile stampin' scrub...not that mine is ...:p

I'd check out beate's gallery...as you can tell by the photo of how she mounted it, it gets used A LOT!! I must say, she uses it to great effect! I never even thought of buying this set until I saw how she used the open diamonds as faux stitching...now I want it just for that stamp!! (haven't quite convinced myself yet, though!) ;)

I am glad that I am not the only one that cuts their wood blocks to separate their rubber. When Festive Favorites came out I didn't like my deer, trees and snow men to be together. So I took the block to a local cabinet shop and a very nice man cut it into thirds and I love it mounted this way. I will have to take my Happiness set in too. He might start charging me if I get carried away! I am trying hard to tell myself that I don't need All in a Row!
