I tried to teach the "mirror-mirror" technique in a class last night and met with a lot of "can't do it". I gave them acetate and they stamped on it (with classic ink), then I had them flip that over and rub the image into the paper and remove the acetate.
The images didn't come out very well and people got WAYYYYYYYYY too frustrated, thinking that I had the "super nack" to make mine work.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated as I have to teach another class tonite and don't want the same issue....
I am also trying to figure this technique out, Tanya R. I got my Snowman Fun Wheel today and wanted to try it. There are some really cute cards using the Mirror technique.
I find acetate too slick for most people to stamp clearly on. I prefer to use wax paper but a friend of mine sent me these directions to use the brayer. Ink up you stamp, now run your brayer over top of it and then roll the brayer onto your cardstock. Now reink your stamp and stamp it above the brayered image. She claims you get a crystal clear image always. If it's a small image a scrap piece of rubber or a solid image stamp works very well. HTH
Using the brayer actually works great. The only problem I ran into (ie frustrating the first couple of times) was lining up the image for the mirror effect. If you take your time though, it is worth the effort. One trick I did find that was if you squat and get down to table level then is it easier to see where you will end up.

I found a cute stamp in Michael's - called a "mirror image stamp" - it's just a flat rubber stamp. I was playing around with it and I did a mirror image of a bear. I inked up my bear, stamped the bear on the "mirror image stamp" (kiss the mirror image stamp), then stamp the "mirror image stamp" on the paper. Then reinked my bear stamp & used the stamp a ma jig to position the bear opposite of the "mirror image" I just stamped - viola - mirror image bears.

There's a beautiful card somewhere in the gallery where they used vellum and trees and did this technique. I was planning on caseing it but got a little distracted with those darn Christmas cards. Hope to get back to caseing soon! Wish I knew how to post a link -- I guess that is something to learn in 2007.
I used this technique with wax paper and it turned out great every time. I am not a demo and didn't have too much trouble. I'd be terrified to try the brayer as a novice. The wax paper lets you see through it and is easy and inexpensive.

Can you tell me more about how you use the wax paper?

Hmm, let's see. You stamp your image onto your cardstock, then reink your stamp and stamp it onto a piece of wax paper. THEN, you flip your wax paper over (ink side down), line it up where you want it(you should be able to see through it a bit), and press it it onto the card stock. Lift up the wax papaer and you should have a mirror image! Good luck! Hope this helps!
