I did the paper inside technique, but have been wanting to do the sticker paper on the outside of the pen--believing that it will come out more vibrant...
Does anyone remove the writing from the pens before they bead them? Does anyone know if this is possible? I have searched and searched and can't seem to find anything re: this....
I have heard of some people using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser when they insert the stamped image inside the pen and do not bead it. However there is no need to remove the writing when following the directions at the beginning of this thread. The image is stamped on sticker paper or label and is applied to the outside of the pen barrel covering the writing.
It's official! My episode of Crafters Coast to Coast will air on Monday April 18th on Home and Garden Television! Check your local listings for the time!
I will be featured in the second half of the show, making the beaded african box (shown in my gallery) along with a stamped and beaded pen, a shaker card and the beaded lace technique! Amazing that they can fit that all into just 12 minutes!! LOL!
Still not sure how to make a beaded pen? Watch the show and you'll see it happen live from Penny Wise Castle!!
That is so exciting!!! Please be sure to post a notice in the General Discussion or Chit Chat Forum the day before so we can all remember to tape the show that day!!!!
Joan Asked: 'Do you prefer the mini micro or the micro beads? '
Oh gosh! That's a great question Joan! And the answer is that I like them both equally well for different things! The mini micro beads are obviously smaller, so they don't refract as much light, which means that the image underneath doesn't get as obscured. So for fine print images, details and words the mini's are the best! But for larger images, I still love the regular micro beads! Because they allow more light to pass through they actually 'sparkle' more than the mini's. And used TOGETHER they are awesome! The mini's will fill in the gaps left between the regular ones! How cool is that??
Thanks for the info. I will have to get both now. I was thinkin that the mini micro would be better for the pens, but I guess it depends on the image you stamp.
I ordered for the first time from PWA last month sometime. They were amazing to work with. Fast to ship and wow, what a great price! I will be ordering my items from them from now on. I found some straight metallic pens at the dollar store. I thought I would try them and really liked how they turned out. Needless to say the dollar store is now sold out of these pens locally

I got my metallic gel pens at the $$ spot at Target. I've been beading them for a few weeks now and selling them to friends to raise money to help a family whose wife/mother died from cancer last week. My friends really like them. They are the best gel pens I've ever used.

This is just a quick reminder to all those subscribed to this thread that my episode on Crafters Coast to Coast is airing THIS MONDAY, April 18th on HGTV!!
Check you local listings for times!!
I will be making FOUR projects in 12 minutes! Can ya believe that?? LOL!!
Featured will be my beaded African box, an African Shaker Card and Matching stamped and beaded pen and the bonus feature will be an elegant black and gold beaded lace thank you card! These are all some of my favorite techniques and I'll be showing you all the tricks and tips on how to make them!
I'll have to set the reminder on my on screen TV guide. I just received my order of micro beads from PennyWise and they are wonderful. I love all the tip sheets included in my order. I made two pens this past weekend and they were so easy and fun to do. My niece is 10 and she loved her pen. Thanks for the wonderful service and going above and beyond. I even told a coworker about PennyWise because she uses the beads for other craft projects. Thanks!
Oh man - I'm sooo mad!!! I missed the show!!!! I hadn't re-subscribed to this thread after the forum change over and I missed the reminder. GRRRR! I really wanted to see QueenpennyWise on tv!!! Do you know if the show will be re-run and when????? DANG!!!
I know I am coming into this way late and the subject matter has somewhat shifted, but I wanted to share this.
During Christmas I was making beaded pens and I was searching for a faster way to get the beads on the pen. I found that using a cigar tube or anything similar works great. Put your beads into the tube and then insert your pen with the tape attached to the pen. You have to work it around a bit. Because of the pressure created between the tube and the pen, the beads seem to really fill in well and stick nicely. When I pull the pen out I then roll it on my cutting mat to make sure they are stuck to the tape really well. Be sure not to put too many beads in the tube, as they will spill out when you insert the pen. I turn the tube on the side to make sure the beads get all the way to the top. Also be careful when you remove the pen from the tube, as there will be stray beads that fall off. I held mine over my embossing tray so I could easily put the beads that fall off back into the container.
I was searching the threads and came across this one. I saw the crafters coast to coast episode! I tape it every day to get new ideas, etc. It was amazing. The african box was beautiful and I went out searching for microbeads and tape to do the lace technique.
Since local craft sore didn't carry the microbeads, I did a search online for microbeads and the pennywise site came up. I glanced at it but I had no idea if the tape and beads were the same or similar to what "she" used on the show. However, now that I know the mysterious "she" is actually queenpennywise I'll definelty be ordering from pennywise.
I'm resubscribing to this old thread so I can find it when someone asks!

Reviving a very old, but still cool thread! This episode is now actually shown as "That's Clever!" rather than Coast to Coast Crafters. Just missed a showing in February, but if you want to keep an eye out for the future, it is Episode HCLVR-1A16. You can see instructions here: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_beads/ar...709265,00.html
I'd love to see anyone else's pen projects or hear updated advice on doing these projects!
