Default Maya Road Tin Magnets

Some of you have asked questions about how to make these magents.

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

First of all I would like to thank Lunar Lana for sharing with me the secrets of creating these magnets.

The tins are by Maya Road. I got mine from:

http://www.coilconnection.com/maya_road.htm

I purchased the small tins for $2.25 (for two) they are approximately 1 1/4" x 1 1/4". Also, if you purchase any Maya Road "trinkets" they come in tins that can be used for the magnets when they are empty. I noticed that this web site does not have a link to order the small tins (you can still view them and a price is printed) - so you may want to contact the store by e-mail or phone. If anyone else has a link to a website that they have used or has a better price please post here. I am always looking for a great deal.

To create the magnets:

First I colored my image - in this case I used Gamsol, stumps and Prismacolor Pencils.

Next I used the tin to trace an outline as a template so that I would know where to cut - then I adjusted the size as necessary. For the circle one I used the lid as a template and then used the creative memories cutting system to get a nice smooth circle.

I glued the image to the inside bottom of the tin using Scoth Quick-Dry Tacky Adhesive.

Then I filled the tin with beads that I bought at Michaels - Halcraft Tiny Glass Marbles & Beads. The nice thing about the tins is you can add the beads then put the lid on and see if you need to add more before committing to glueing the lid down.

I glued the lid down to the base of the tin using SU! Crystal Effects.

I also used the crystal effects to glue my prima flowers and bead to the outside of the tin. You could also use tiny buttons and ribbon as embelishments.

Hope the instructions are clear!

Thanks for letting me know. The ones I was looking at were about 3/4" deep. So I'll keep looking.

I did one of these. But I can't get a good scan or pictures to share. Thanks for this cute little idea.
