Inking Edges

I have never been formally trained in the art of inking the edges of paper. I have my own way of doing it, but was wondering if anyone could share how they do it? I end up getting ink all over my fingers. I just tap the edges of the paper directly on the ink pad. I have seen where others use daubers or sponges, but I don't get the same effect. Please share - thanks!

I use a sponge to ink the edges of my paper. I was shown to ink the sponge and drag your sponge from the outside in. That way your starting point is on your scrap paper and not leaving "starting" marks on your edges. Hope that makes sense.

what i do is take a stampin spot (or pad) and swipe on the edge of the carstock.

I do mine the same way, always start on a piece of scrap paper and softly drag it over the cardstock.

I just use the makeup sponges you can big in the big pkgs, much cheaper.

It depends on the look I want. for a more pronounced "grungy" look, I distress the edged first and then swipe the stamp pad along the edge of the paper, pulling it in slightly from the edge. This gives a messier, random look. For a softer look, I use JudiKins color dusters. I pick up ink from the pad then starting off the paper (just like the other posters do with sponges), I apply the ink along the edges using a circular motion. This gives a much softer look. Good luck, and don't worry about ink on your fingers--that's half the fun!

you could try putting a wet rung out old dish towel into a gallon ziploc baggie (open) near your table and just wipe your fingers on it after... if your using waterbased dye ink you can run the stamps over that too, then just toss it in the wash after...

just a thought, I usually go direct to paper with ink pads too but, i tend to reach for the square distress ink pads because they are easier to hold with out the lid in the way.
