My upline and a friend of ours played with this last night and it finally worked out.
The trick is to heat it from underneath the image. When we heated from the top it blew all the UTEE away, but when we melted it underneath it was great and smelled heavenly!!!
Ok, here's my problem. I am trying to do the strawberry from Tart & Tangy. I colored the berry part w/ Real Red & the stem part w/ Glorious Green markers, then I tried coloring over the red part w/ my VersaMarker, but it didn't work so well, so THEN I tried coloring over the red w/ the 2-way glue pen. The results were much better, BUT...
How do you keep from getting extra koolaid all over the paper and then smearing it?!?!?!? I rubbed my Embossing buddy over the entire piece of paper after I stamped the strawberries, after they had a chance to dry a little, and before I colored them w/ the glue pen. The koolaid still got all over it and when I went to wipe it off, I guess there was a little moisture on my fingers because it got all over the place. I even tried brushing the excess off with a dry paint brush before embossing, and it STILL made a huge mess.
ANY IDEAS?!?!?!? I have a class TOMORROW!!!!!

Kelly, I wonder if you might have more Koolaid in your mix than embossing powder/glaze. Try adding a bit more embossing powder/glaze.
I don't know if it will help much since most of you seem to have it down already, but I put up a small tutorial on Scratch -n-Sniff for my blog a couple of months ago here.
When using the VersaMark pen, go over the image a few times. One coat may not saturate the paper enough. I like to go over the image a few times until I get a nice sheen before sprinkling on the mixture.
Heat from underneath first and then finish with a couple of seconds from up on top.
The more Glassy Glaze you use, the more "shiny" it will be.
You just have to play around with the mix.
I found that the less embossing powder/glaze you have, the more staining or flecks you will see around the stamped image, even if you have used the embossing buddy or static cling.
Thanks Jane! I'm SURE I used too much koolaid because I used the whole packet. Now I did use plenty of EP too (clear & glassy glaze), but I didn't read the ratio suggestions until after I had dumped the whole pack into the baby food jar I was using and added some EP.
Anyway, your comment on static cling reminded me of the swiffer wipe, so here's what we did:
Stamp image; swipe w/ Embossing Buddy; "color" part to be embossed w/ VersaMarker (we went ahead and used the 2-way glue pen); spoon EP/koolaid mixture on; pick up with tweezers and tap off excess; wipe away stray powder w/ dry paint brush; emboss from underside; "set" the embossing by heating once more the regular way; then wipe with a swiffer wipe to remove any powder STILL remaining.
At least my students projects turned out well. Even my third try for the sample didn't work so great, but then I grabbed my tweezers for my students to use and that did the trick. Thanks again Jane and everyone!!!

Joining the thread. Scratch 'n' Sniff...how would you do chocolate? Do you think that a drop or two of a scented oil, let it dry and then heat embossing might work, too?

I tried the scratch and sniff and loved it until I scratched ;( it smeared when I scratched no matter how much embossing powder I used same result also less scent with more EP I bought the tart and tangy set just for this technique wanting to send great niece and nephew cards with scratch and sniff. Guess I'll look for the scented EP ;(
I'm just wondering, and if it's already posted, I'm sorry... Has anyone else tried the Gel-A-Tins Scented Embossing Powder? I have it in Chocolate and Vanilla Latte, and when I tried to use the Chocolate on my Easter cards (for a rabbit, wouldn't that have been cool?), it was very grainy and didn't "melt" well at all. It was so bad, I just gave up the idea.
So has anyone had better luck with the Gel-A-Tins powder? I was thinking about adding some SU EP to it but wanted to inquire as to whether someone else has a better solution.
I used the original recipe in the VSN challenge for scratch and sniff
and had no problems at all. It was linked to Beate Johns technique in the VSN thread.
Mine was done with Tropical sugar free Kool Aid and it worked great.
I used the 1 1/2 to 1 ratio of clear ep to Kool-Aid.
It still smells awesome when you scratch it too. Does it matter
what paper you use? I used whisper white. I could imagine if you
used glossy white it may not work as well but I don't know for sure.
Anyway, here is my card based on the original instructions. Maybe different KoolAid also works differently. Mine was a pretty color and the tropical
may have more variety and stronger scents too.
Is the Stampin Success Catalog a catalog you subscribe to??? I get The Rubber Stamper magazine which now is Crafts n Things, I wish they would have more cards from Readers with Stampin Up products and the recipe. I also like new product lines like Cuttlebugs and there new Embossing Folders etc.
I have tried many ratios, and the image still feels sticky. I have tried re-heating from the top to set but that didn't help. I want to use this Wednesday with some middle school girls, help!!
I have never used UTEE and I love it. I used it by itself to see what it would do.
