Question Help!! with unmounting stamps..

Hi All...As much as I LOVE this website, I am NOT!! very good at finding?? articles I've seen in the past, etc...so am HOPING someone can point me in the right direction to articles regarding unmounting your rubber stamps from their wood blocks, to be used on the new CLEAR blocks...

I have mainly S-UP sets, and some of the "verse" (word) sets, I'd like to use with clear (stamp) blocks. Just can't remember where I read about this and I'm just wondering how?? once you remove the sticky backing on them NOW, and are left with your plain rubber piece, is there any way you can attach the image (of what it is) to be able to see what you're stamping through the clear block(s). Know what I mean??

I DO remember it said to put them in microwave for maybe? 7-10 sec's and the sticky backing will come off the wood block "easier" than just trying to pry or pull it off, etc.

THANKS, as always!! for your help. Happy Crafting....Take care, Jo

Maybe use Goo Gone ?? It seems like that would work, but I'd almost be afraid it would eat the rubber.

You might try Paper Pleasing Ideas @ paperpleasing.typepad.com and scroll down to the January 18, 2010 post. If that doesn't answer your question you can click on her demo webstite page and it will give you her phone number and email address!

THANKS!! I did check out her blog (website, whatever..) and I understand
how to get the rubber images off the wood blocks, but what I am still confused about is what people do with the individual images (of the stamp)that were originally stuck down on the top side of the WOOD blocks before you unmounted them...because if you don't have that to see (through the clear blocks now) how do you know where to stamp the image if you can't see what it is to get your placement right?? Know what I mean?

All you would see as you go to stamp is the back side of the stamp thru the clear blocks. If it was a circle SHAPE for instance, you couldn't tell what pattern the circle SHAPE was going to stamp without the image to see...am I making any sense, or is it just way too early for me to be up, and I'm simply a total whack job this AM?? hahaha

Maybe I'm just a total whack job?? LOL....

I've done this and have used something called EZ Mount, foam-type backing with adhesive on one side and a clingy type side on the other to stick to the acryllic mounting block.

Here's a link of what it looks like. I didn't purchase mine from this company, but thought it would at least give you and idea of what it is.

I'm thinking of doing this to more of my SU stamps, so I can *see* where I'm stamping rather than guessing with the wood block mounted stamps. I DO love stamping with rubber-based stamps, though, as opposed to the clear plastic ones that are rigid and don't stamp a good image, so I'm sold on SU's rubber stamps, just trying to decide if I want to have a mix of stamps or switch to all acryllic block stamps. Decisions...decisions...LOL

Have fun!

Default I'm too afraid...

...to mess with perfection. I have waaay too many woodmounted stamps, and probably just as many acrylics. Because I have trouble getting the image in the right place, I almost always use my stamp-a-ma-jig on the wooden stamps, but couldn't you use the SAMJ on acrylic blocks too ? I'm guessing the major reason for unmounting stamps is storage. Well, you've seen the photo boxes that HL puts on sale @ 2 for 1 ? (Price for 1 is $4)..anyway, they fit the clamshells fro SU stamps really nicely. The trick is to keep shells of the same size in the same box, and to have tehstamp name sticker facing up so you can pull it up and look at it. The boxes with the small sets can be closed with the lid, but larger stamp sets stick above the box. I put the lid on the bottom and stack them anyway. The photo boxes come in several different patterns and they change with the season.

I guess that YES..just use the stamp-a-ma-jig with clear ones as well...never thought of that..duh??!! hahaha..that's why I come to SCS..was just trying to figure out how I could use the S-UP (wood mounted sets..the rubber pieces) and be able to use the image(s) to glue down on the back to see through the clear mounts...maybe IS more work than worth the time to do so though ?? Hmmm....

Thanks for your reply!! Take care...

If you unmount and then use ezmount you can stamp the ez mount with stazon before you unmount, then you can see what the stamp says. I just unmount and use tack it over and over. I use a stamp a ma jig. The SU wood mounted sets that I have not mounted, I just placed the sticker over the sticky side and then added the tack it over and over again. I store in cd cases.

I created a new technique for converting wood mount to clear mount that's easy and extremely affordable. My husband helped me make video tutorials and you can find them on my blog http://www.stampsomefun.com Just scroll past the "This woman is my hero" video and you'll find them. Hope this helps! -Susan

I just watch SPeters videos for unmounting stamps and I cannot wait to try out her way of unmounting. It's super cheap which is good for me because I am on a budget, and I love how she found a way to have the image show through on the back of the stamp.

Yes, the vinyl can be found at fabric stores. More info. at the end of the video; "Wood Mounts & Clear Mounts & Stamps Oh My!" part 2 and also part 3. You'll see it at the end of the videos on the pink screen after I list the supplies.
Here's part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/user/StampSom.../2/vMqaKoI6-KA
Here's part 3 - http://www.youtube.com/user/StampSom.../3/_MDxiMIw6KE
Thanks for watching my videos and I'll be posting a step-by-step picture tutorial on my website in a few days. http://www.stampsomefun.com
I also have drawn up some handy Clear Block Sizing Guides to help you determine which size block you need for any given stamp. Hope this helps!
