Thanks, Dorinda!

Does anybody know if this is safe for scrapbooking? Just from the sound of it, I am thinking it probably isn't, but it is a really neat technique. Thanks for sharing, Dorinda!

Oh, so I am making the connection..my friend michele, from purple onion design stamps, introduced me to a technique called Magic Colored Pencil...I posted about it a few days ago under a thread called Prismacolor in General Discussion...she had been contacted by the gal who invented the technique..the same gal who is in Dorinda's link...DUH.I am thick..anyway, in the Prismacolor thread, she has a great tutorial, and also, Debbie gives some options for mineral spirits....Kerilou

THanks to Dorinda for making the connection!! Kerilou

Default Original Website for Gamsol Technique

I posted this website on other forums but will post it again for those who didn't get it. It's a detailed step-by-step instruction from the lady that created the technique. Please visit:

http://www.sanford-artedventures.com...gimbel_mp.html

Let me know if the link doesn't work and I'll try something else.

Default Where to buy Prismacolor

Hi Again,

Just in case you didn't see this in the other post. Michael's or AC Moore. You can buy them individually or in sets. Derwent also a great artist quality pencils just make sure you don't get their watercolor pencils. I won't work with the Gamsol. You can also use our Pure Color pencils with Gamsol.

Cecelia,

What do you use to dispense your mineral spirits? In the article Debbie suggests soap dishes(?), sponge bottles, and I've seen somewhere else she suggested emptied bingo markers. I'm having trouble locating anything similar.

For anyone looking to purchase the Prismacolor colored pencils, I just purchased mine from www.aswexpress.com. I ordered them on 12/31 and received them 2 days ago. They have them on sale right now. They also carry Gamsol.

Thanks,
Santell

I just ordered

Sanford® Prismacolor® Pencils, Assorted, Pack Of 120
with the sale code BLN-3602 (I just tried typing it in and it took it) for the price of 56.98

and then used the $20 off a $50 order DZ2-PRD20, but it wouldn't take it so I called...and the very nice lady gave me a $20 discount.

So, I am getting my 120 Prismacolor set for $36.98! I am very pleased and can't wait to get them!

THANK YOU! I love the Gamsol card in Princessink's gallery, but I was not familiar with what it was... The link is wonderful.

AND...Dana, thanks for sharing the Viking info... YOU ROCK!!!
I keep putting off buying a big set of the Prismacolors because of the cost. I am zipping right to my Viking account as soon as I post this! I have loved Prismacolor pencils ever since I was introduced to them over 20 yrs. ago in college...if anyone needs some pencils, you should jump on this deal. The pencils are about $1 or more each at the art stores and Mike's...a set of 120 for $30-something is amazing!

I am so excited about finally getting a set...I have never had one and truly don't NEED 120, but the price...who can resist...and to get above 50 for the 20 off was essential.

I hope you get them ok...I did have trouble with the 20 off activating, but the phone support was super...good luck!

Now, I have to get some of the other supplies together so that I can do this technique!!!

Got mine, too!!

I had trouble with the promotional code, too...Here's how I got around it: When you go to checkout, a hot pink button at the top of the shopping cart says, "Special Deal." Click that, then enter DZ2-PRD20. The coupon says $20 off a $50 order, but when you click on the details, it DOES say "off your next $50 order." I just chanced it and went ahead to checkout...when I did, the coupon took the $20 off this order. Awesome! It ends up being about a $100 savings on the 120 set of Prismacolors.

Where do you get Gamsol? Art supply? Can you get it at Michael's?

This is so funny...

I have been so excited about the great deal on the pencils that I have sort of put in the back of my mind what I need for the rest of my supplies to do this!

This is what I found from another post...
Forums at Splitcoaststampers

Then other names to possibly be found at both the art or craft stores:

Sansodor by Windsor Newton
Gamlin Gamsol
Mona Lisa Artist Odorless Paint Thinner by Houston Arts (if you read the label it supposedly says 100% odorless mineral spirits).

I hope this helps!
(this is from the GD board) taken off 2 peas message board...

Kerilou ** I got the windsor and newton sansodor at Mikes for under five dollars..works fine..

I guess I need to find this stuff or one of the alternatives and also the blender pencils. I have an eraser so I am good to go there.

But seriously...I can't wait to get my pencils in the mail tomorrow...I will have to set them up in the cardboard display they come in and just look at them for a while before I start using them. Talk about the "ultimate" in NEW school supplies...yahoo!!!

When I ordered my things a few days ago, I added the code and a box came up that said $20 off your next order of $50 . It also had a box to check that said 'add to cart'. Did that and mine came off the order with no problems. Do you remember if yours had a small box with that next to it? Could have been what you needed to do. That's the first time I've ordered from them so I'm not sure.
Does anyone know if there's a limit on how many times you can use the code or when it expires?
Thanks!

Don't remember seeing it, but must have checked it because the coupon DID end up in my shopping cart as a line item with a
(-20.00) price! It is listed on the invoice as "Special Deal Savings."

No idea how many times it can be used, but would imagine only once per customer...

What a deal on these pencils - still can't get over it!

am so excited about my new prismacolors coming on Monday. I use them for so many things and could not pass up that deal.

LOL about the "ultimate in new school supplies" comment. You are so right. I had been drooling over my son's new 96 color crayon set, but this is so much better!! Speaking of crayons, have you noticed how cool the sharpener is on the crayon box now? It actually sharpens them back to the original point so they look like they do freshly opened. Ah, if only they'd had that feature when I was a kid...sorry...sleep deprived and waxing nostalgic about crayons.

Hi,

I was just wondering about the mineral spirits. I went to Michael's yest and did not see anything called mineral spirits but I did find something called Winsor & Newton Blending Medium for Water Colour. Is this the same thing or will it work the same way or do I need to return this and get something else. Any info would be appreciated.

I am not an expert on mineral spirits by any means, but I don't think a watercolor blending medium is going to do it. Odorless mineral spirits are usually around the oil painting supplies. I think you might have to take it back. But wait until you get some more feedback here, in case I am wrong.

I just bought my pencils on line too! Thanks for the great deal! I had bought them at Michael's but I'm taking them back for sure. I bought something called Grumbacher Pre-Tested Odorless Thinner. Is that what I need? I couldn't find the stuff that was listed on the web site. I hope this will work cause that's all I could find!

Thanks!

I have a question. Were the Prismacolor pencils supposed to be regular art pencils or watercolor pencils? What is the difference? Will both work with the Gamsol?
I found Gamsol today at a art supply store. It comes in a metal can similar to what turpentine comes in. I had checked Michaels and Joannes and I did not see it there but honestly I did not know what I was looking for at the time either. I plead ignorance at the art store and she led me straight to it. A 16 oz. can was 7.77. It was the smallest size they had.
I ordered the viking special. Be careful, if you enter in BLN-3602 the price comes up 56.98, but if you do BNL-3602 it comes up 98.98. the same exact pencil set!! They did apply the 20.00 code as well. Thanks to all for the good instructions.

I've been trying since yesterday to order these, and I keep getting a message that they are out of stock! How did you order them today, ShaddyBaby? Thanks!
