Default Fish Tube Bracelet Help

Is there any tutorial on how to make the bracelet with the fish tube? My daughter's bridal shower is next Sunday and I thought that would be a nice gift for all the guests. I have looked at all the samples, but I am not sure of the length of the tubing, type of beads to use in between the tubing, what the bracelets are strung with, and so on.

Can anyone help me on this one?

I actually haven't seen any tutorials on this. All I really know is you take a piece of the clear tubing roll a piece of patterened paper up on a toothpick and then slide it inside the tubing and let it uncoil some. I believe you can then cut the beads into assorted sizes. I think any beads that are pretty could be used between the tubing and I would use a decent sized bead cord to hold them. Do you have a local bead store that could assist you with that part? I would look and talk to them to see what they think.

I don't know how to post a link so I will do the best I can to get you to the directions I found from Renee O. posted on Oct. 21, 2006. Here are her comments: I'm not sure what others have done and I searched and couldn't find any info so I made mine up. I used the 2.44M standard airline tubing from Walmart. Found it in the fish tank area. I cut my pieces 3/4 of an inch and then just little pieces of designer paper the same width and about the same length. Rolled them up and stuck them in the tubing. Strung with the beads on .5mm stretch magic cord. HTH

I love the ones made by Mariiam, like this one: Rebecca Bracelet by mariiam at Splitcoaststampers

Below are the instructions she PM'd me. Hope this helps.

Here are the basic directions to make them. Hopefully they will answer your questions.

You cut pattern paper (great to use scraps) into small 1/2" squares and then roll it around a toothpick and slide it into the airhose tubing for fishtanks. (You can buy this in the pet section at Walmart - it is the only size they carry and doesn't have any size measurements on it but is about 1/4" in diameter) Then just clip the tubing the length of your paper. That will make the bead. I like to string my bracelets onto stretchy beading cord. Tie into a tight square knot and then drop some superglue onto the knot to keep it from slipping out. Clip the ends and slide the knot under one of the fish tubing beads so you don't see the knot.

Oh this is so much fun. I used to do this my second graders. We used all sorts of paper and is is cut into long triangles about 1 inch x 6inches. Then just roll them (tight)around a tooth pick. Leave them on the tooth picks that is so long as you don't get glue on the toothpick. This helps you to string the the beads. Use all sorts of small beads or pearl in between your beads. Such fun and to make it super special have each of your guests mke one bead for the person you want to impress.
Enjoy,
BJ

Thank-you, thank-you. I just opened my email and saw that I had the new Weekly Inking. When I saw the thread I was so excited, the "how to's were all there. Wow, what a great group of people.

In my quest for making the bracelets I did find a nice beading package at Michaels. It has three different types of beads in the package and will work out great with the provided instructions.

Once again thanks, the guest will be so thrilled.

Wow, I'm going to visit a friend today so she could teach me how to make them. I look on the computer last night and couldn't find them anywhere? She's the one that told me about this forum.

Did you find the information you need? I have a word file with all the information as well as some patterns...I made up for a class at my Women's Club. (Maariam was kind enough to share direction with me as well).

My tips are:
-Use 4mm silver or gold balls to cap the ends of the plastic tube (fish tube) sections to make them more like a bead
-Use 6MM glass bicones (but not really nice beads)...not sure why but the nicer beads actually makes the plastic tube look cheap (and the whole bracelet) but an average bead (Better Beads mix from Michaels) looks the best.
-Finally trap the knot in between the plastic bead and silver ball so you can hide it inside...and hit it with some Super Glue (I use gel) to make sure the know doesn't come out.

If you have any questions let me know.
Lisa.
