Question Envelope Card

This is my first post. I am a new Demonstrator looking for a specific idea I saw a year or so ago. It is a card made out of an envelope that is folded in half and has a pocket for money. Does any one know what that is and how to make it?

fold the envelope in half and cut the flap on the crease mark. Seal down the left half of the flap, and tuck in the right half to make the pocket.

Hope this makes sense

Default Envelope card

There is also another technique where you take the envelope and fold the two sides in towards the middle (a gate fold) then the flap that you use to seal the envelope hangs over the "gate" When you flip the little flap up and open the gates you have a small pocket which is perfect for a folded dollar or gift card. I hope that makes sense! If you need me to I can take a digital picture of one that is complete and attach it tonight or tomorrow.

Question This may be a dumb question, but......

does the envelope then become the whole card, or do you glue this inside a card or what? Thanks.

We did this at stamp club and put a piece of cardstock on the back with a ribbon between the cs and the envelope to be able to bring around and tie the envelope shut with a nice bow.

If you are trying to attach photos here.. In your post.. scroll dwn a bit till you see the manage attachments button.
The size has to be 640 x 480 or smaller.. I think.. But dont worry .. it will tell you if its too big.

Just click manage attachment and it will give you a browse button and you can upload any pic on your machine. after you browse you click the upload button and then when its finally done you click close window and your left with your post window where you click submit reply just like a normal post... Hope this helps...

I decided to play with an envelope following your instructions. I plucked an envelope from my desk drawer and made the folds. Looking at it, I realized the envy was a peel & stick type. I cut the flap at the creases, peeled off the paper, and adhered them to the gate. This leaves the remaining portion of the flap available to stick over the center of the gate portion to seal the envy-card.

To me, it still looks messy. Something similar could be constructed with cs but with neater cuts. The center flap that fits over the gate could be shaped in a half-round, a steeple or be punched with a design. Embellished, of course.

Edited to add--opened up, the side 'wings' of the gate could also become pockets by making a slice through the top layer. Maybe for a narrow tag or a small bookmark, coupon to a movie, etc.

Hmm, wish I could figure out how to post pictures. In the example I was referencing you do not seal the th flap at all. I could email the pics to you if you would like. I don't think it looks messy when I look at it but to each their own! It always gets a HUGE response when I demo it!

I really like the idea of the center flap being decorated I didn't state that I DO cut cardstock in a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 coordinating color and then mount a 2x2 square that has been stamped on it and then mount that on the flap that folds over the gate.

Thanks for sharing your twist!!

Red face envelope card

my su demo made one last year with the flap in a square shape instead of a pointed envelope and it comes out looking neater ...we used 2 pieces of cardstock and stamped the first piece with a cake then your ribbon went under the stamped cardstock and between the bottom piece of cardstock to seal your card. The back piece of cardstock is the size of a small card...hope that helps DD
