Question distress inks and mini misters

I am new to the distress inks and techniques. I watched some youtube Tim Holtz videos and when I tried to spray on the inks on my paper, they didn't make that cool water splotch pattern. It just made my paper wet. Do I need a more glossy or smooth paper for this technique? The tutorial didn't specify. I just used the basic white cardstock from JoAnn's or Michaels.

I use them on matte paper. I've never tried glossy paper so I don't know if that would matter. Did you use a mini mister? How much ink did you add in? Lastly, what color did you use? I have misters for all 36 colors & love them all. Some of the lighter colors are, well, light. lol! I don't know how else to describe that one. I've even done a you tube video of this technique because I love it so much. JIL

I rubbed the color directly onto the paper with the foam pads, then spayed it with clear water from the mini mister. I was using walnut and denim.

Ok- I thought you were trying to make color sprays. I was thinking of the wrong technique-lol!
Either way I can help you. So, you're trying to get the splotches of water to show up. If you spray from the mister, it's too fine. So, spray some water into your hand & drop it onto the areas you colored. The larger drops of water will create light spots. Let me know if this works for you. JIL

Have you tried swiping a few Distress Ink colors on a non-stick craft sheet, without mixing them, and then spritzing them with water and then placing your paper in it? Very cool effect. You can do one layer, heat dry it, and add more...
