I Use the silicone mat that Valita uses. For my cuttlebug and the perfect level of embossing, I use 2 pieces with 2 B plates. Have to do two goes though, cut first then emboss. If you are in Australia, you can find them at the reject shop for $5.

I also NEVER cut into my C Plate.

It is the same as the B plate but a little thicker, and is labelled C

Where can I get a C plate? Every store I have checked doesn't seem to carry any such thing. All I see are B plates.

It's been a while since I got my Bug, but I think the C plate came with it. Check the box, maybe it's hiding out in there!

I just tried this and I get much better embossing doing it in the two steps with the tan embossing mat.

For cutting, I have been replacing the top B plate with two of the small green self healing cutting mats by Olfa.....It works a treat and my B plate doesn't get all cut up....I know,,,,I know it is made to be cut up but I don't like the way it looks. the green mats never show a sign of being run through.

Hi...I tried it and it works great, but I have to agree that the embossing is deeper doing it the original way. Thanks for the great tips!

Default Big Shot Texturz Pad for tan embossing mat?

Hi everyone,

I don't have a clue where to find a tan embossing mat in Toronto .. do you think the SU Big Sot Texturz Pad would be sufficient? Has anyone had any luck with that?

I actually figured this out by accident. Hope that helps!

I have a Big Kick, but none of the combinations mentioned work for me. I've tried them all. Oh, well, that's OK. My purple silicon mat embosses the die beautifully, and I don't mind the extra step. It only takes a few seconds. Thanks for all the suggestions, though.

Thanks for sharing, I just received my nesties today for my big shot. Have been playing with them. Do have a few shapes on the glass, but it works great even with my chipboard.

A PLATE
2-3 pieces of CS for shims
C PLATE
Nestability, ridge side up
Cardstock/DP for cutting (face down, if two-sided)
B PLATE

Run it through the Cuttlebug, and VOILA!!

WARNING: I found that as I did this over and over, that my B PLATE got pretty disfigured. I flip flop my B plate every time I run it through and it eventually flattens itself back out. I replace my B PLATES on a pretty regular basis, so this doesn't bother me. ALSO, this is a pretty tight fit - it WILL go through but will require some elbow grease. Hope this helps some other lazy crafters like me!! hehehe
I went to a Stampin Up meeting with a friend that is in it, and we did some projects using the new Sizzix, and when I went to put the die into the machine, I was told to place the die up side down, so the plat part of the die is up, I was used to doing it the other way. The reason for this, is just want you are talking about, it makes your plate bend after a few uses, and doing it the other way, they do not seem to bend. Not sure if this will work with the Nestabilities or not.

If you are talking about the rubber feeling mat, yes, this will work just fine in place of the Tan Embossing Mat you are asking about.

The plates on the Cuttlebug work the same as the plates for the Sizzix. You always have 3 layers when using both the Cuttlebug and the Sizzix.

On this site, it is suggested that you use a silicon baking sheet rather than fun foam in the cuttlebug when embossing with the Fiskar plates. I wonder if this might be a alternative to the tan embossing mat or the plumbers gasket.

I have used the plumbers gasket successfully and don't see that much difference than using the tan embossing mat.

It's really nice to find these less expensive alternatives.

I emboss my Nesties with a silicone baking sheet I got at the Dollarama. I just cut it into pieces and uses 2 layers to emboss.

Just wondering....I don't have the tan embossing mat or plumbers' gasket BUT doesn't the die cut into them?

Does the silicone baking sheet get cut by the die? Or am I doing it all wrong?
