I have been crocheting these little devils and finally added one to a card that isn't totally finished yet. I used a bead cap and a small brad, but was wondering how you all attach your flowers to the cards if the brads are too small for the centers and you don't want to use a bead cap or something similar. Will Glue Dots hold well enough? Maybe I just need to get more big brads? I love the small ones but the center holes in my flowers are too large for them.

Glue dots will hold them. You can also use ribbon, thread, etc. to tie the flower on. I've even seen them stapled on. Add buttons or felt shapes, etc., either on top or under the flower. So many possibilities.
Gee I have spent the entire afternoon on this thread and have learned so much and found so many wonderful patterns. Thanks you to everyone who contributed and shared with everyone all of their information about crocheting flowers.
Your flower came out great, Lindsay!!! I see you've used regular yarn. Try some cotton thread next time and you'll be amazed how different it will come out. This flower is perfect for this card!!!!

Check these cards out that I found while surfing galleries or today's gallery additions. Pretty cute!!
Also.. do you remeber which pattern you used for the green and white one? VERY cute! Oh just realized that these are ones you found while surfing.... never mind! Old age has already crept into my brain!

Your flowers turned out gorgeous! Which pattern did you use for the blue one?
Anne, if you are speaking to me, I used the pattern created by Kelly on Page 4 of this thread Post#159. I used flower #3 with all 6 strands of DMC floss and #8 Steel Hook.
Cindy,

Check on page 4 post #159....I have made all of these. I also have a 2 layer flower that can be found here http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa030803.htm
I know there are other patterns but, those are the ones I use. HTH
I have been trying to make the double layer flower on Nichole's blog, but am struggling with Step #6. I am new to crocheting and cannot figure out how to sc DOWN THROUGH base opening of small petal! I would love a more detailed explanation if any of you are willing to help out! Thanks!
You're going to connect your top layer to the base layer. Do you see in her picture of step 6 where she's circled a hole...that's the "opening" at the base of the small petal. You're going to put your hook in that hole and out of an adjacent area (maybe the tiny hole just on the left of her drawn circle in step 6) so you'll have some yarn on your hook. Then single crochet! You'll chain three which should put your hook close to the next base opening of the next petal.
Big Sigh...I use to know how to knit, sigh, but have forgotten how. When my two daughters where about 3 and 5 I made them each a vest that looked like a bunny on the front and had made one afghan, but, sigh, I found it hard to see/recognize my mistakes and be able to go back and fix them correctly. Crocheting is SO much easier for me to do, but I do wish I could get the hand of knitting as there are many pretty things to be made by knitting!
I've really been enjoying this thread, love all the pictues and patterns that everyone has shared too. I've finally got my crochet hook out and with embroidery floss, made the cute little flower on Nicole's blog (Papertrey Ink). These are so cute and easy...well, easy after I got the hang of it again! LOL!!
I'm wondering if anyone has a matching DMC floss chart for the In colours that are retiring and for the new In Colours that we're getting? I've seen a chart for the existing colour families but not for In colours. I guess if there isn't one, it would be just a matter of matching up the cardstock with the floss until it looks like a close match? Or is there a more complicated method of doing this....I mean, it can't be that easy can it? LOL!
Howdy! Here is what I have so far to match SU colors. Sorry I do not have the matches for the upcoming colors yet....but, I will.....or someone else will chime in with it.
Wow Cindy! Thanks so much for sharing!! That's a great list! I'm saving it and hoping that I can add the new In Colours to it soon!
I need to pull out all my DMC floss and see if I have *all* the colours....ha ha....you never know when I *might* need the perfect colour match for my cards .... just imagine.... it's midnight and the stores are closed <g> ..... What fun, more shopping! Love this obssession of mine....stamps & ink & paper and now floss....oh my! Is anyone else as crazy as me??

Thanks again!!
I am because I was just like that when I finally got some directions! I got that list from someone here on SCS so, I cannot take the credit. Glad I could help you!
I have been making flowers shown on:
mylifetime web site
The 'fanciful flower' center is the same as one of SU flowers. Here is the pattern with changes using only one color instead of 2 as shown on web site
Using size 6 metal hook and #10 crochet cotton:
Rnd 1: ch 5 (counts as a dc and ch-1 sp); in 5th ch from hook work (dc, ch1) 5 times; join in 4th ch of beg ch-5 sp: {there will be 6 ch-1 sps.}
Rnd 2: sl st into next ch 1 sp *(sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sc); repeat from * around, join with sl st in beg st. finish off.
using different cottons and size of hook will alter size of flowers.
They work up very fast. Hope this is similar to what you are looking for.
