Default Copic Airbrushing

When I was in the first grade, I always left my sky white and colored by clouds light blue. Now, I knew it was supposed to be the other way around- a big blue sky- but I was just too lazy to waste all my time and precious blue crayon getting the sky to look real.

Jump to the present. I want to airbrush a sky with Copics and include some clouds. I've looked at several tutorials....and darned if they weren't all coloring the clouds blue (or even pink)! I'm not goin' there this time!

Soooo...what is your preferred way to get white clouds? Template, negative template, just leaving gaps in the spraying of blue, or what? And, if you add shadow to the cloud, which marker numbers do you prefer?

Default Copic Help?

Not sure if this would work for you, but maybe use the Colorless Blender and take out the color blue. There's also some very pale gray shades that may help if you're airbrushing.

I love to tear a cloud out of soft paper- let the paper give you a deckled edge and a "fluffy" look (you might go through a bit of paper till you tear the perfect cloud, so use scratch paper). Then use the cloud as your mask and airbrush around it.

If you save the reverse of the cloud, then you can use that to mask the background sky and add some hints of pale gray to the cloud bottoms to make them look real.

Thanks. I didn't care much for my torn Post It cloud; so I'll just keep tearing. I like the idea of using the negative template for the shadowing.

try tearing from a thicker, softer paper. I've found that it gives "fluffier" clouds. Construction paper or watercolor paper is good.
