A pretty simple TLC today, figuring that we all need 'simple' right now. We're going to do some bird origami; origami and its kin, kirigami, have been featured lately in challenges and I thought I'd keep that ball rolling. Now, before you get all nervous, this is super simple and rather addictive. I don't know where this originated from but Natasha Foote has a video, which I will link here...but you don't really need to watch it in its entirety. The basics are:
1) Take a strip of two sided designer paper, 3/4" x 12". You can also put together two pieces of single sided designer paper, using some sticky tape.
2) Make a knot in the center of the paper by tying it. Go slowly at first, wiggling the two ends of the paper strip, trying not to crease the paper until you can achieve a flat square knot in the middle. The side to the left can be shorter than the right side, since that will be the head but no worries, you will be trimming. Trim off the head side by rounding the corners until you get a head shape. The right side will be the tail.
3) Cut the tail shorter. Make two little cuts to the tail, like a banner or a flag, to create sort of a feather look. Take the piece that you trimmed off the tail, cut it so that it matches the already created tail and tuck it in next to that tail to create two 'feathers.'
4) You'll need a solid tiny piece of paper to cut a beak, maybe a yellow or orange color. Adhere that. Decide what you want for the eye....marker, a jewel, a googly eye. I used a bit of gold mirror paper for the beak and a rhinestone for the eye.
That's it. I'll put some pictures in the thumbnails so you get the gist if you prefer not to watch the video. Then create a card with your birdie. You can draw some legs under the bird after you add him to the card; I chose not to. Mix up the patterns of the papers, be quirky, have fun. Mine is Christmas/winter but you can do any occasion or season if you're tired of Christmas. Sorry the photos are sideways...tilt your head to the left. :(
Remember to use the keyword TLC929 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
