The Rest of the story:
For centuries, certain foods have been rumored to have certain "medicinal" properties and the ability to cure all sorts of ailments. Recently in a French magazine, a certain American actress was spotted shopping in a very chic boutique famous for it's supply of sinfully rich luxury items. They only sell the best of the best, the whitest beluga caviar from Iraq, the silkiest face creams made with crushed pearls from Japan, the smoothest chocolate truffles from Belgium with exotic fillings, and they are the exclusive supplier of Mademoiselle Maurcier's rose petal jelly. This jam is rumored to increase a ladies appeal. Those who have tried it, swear by it's power over others around them.
Mademoiselle Maurcier resides in a lovely chateau in the French countryside where she has access to acres and acres of ingredients for her jams and jellies that she sells to support her family. This sudden attention to her rose petal jelly has it flying off the shelves faster than she can make it. She's staying up late and cooking pot after pot of jelly and still she can't keep up. She enlists one of the farm girls Camille to help her and together the two of them are putting up jar after jar after jar of the beautiful pinkish hued jelly. However, all this rose petal jelly requires a lot of roses and she is beginning to run through her supply in a hurry. Still the requests keep coming in, so Camille sends her brother Chaude off to find more rose petals.
Chaude has been working in the vineyards down the road and knows that they always grow a rose bush at intervals along each row of grapes because the same bugs that attack grapes are attracted to roses. The roses will show sign of distress before the grapes will and therefore will act as an early warning system for disease to the grapes. Since it is grape harvest time, there is no need to worry about disease as much. So Chaude starts harvesting the petals from the vineyard. (and maybe sneaking a trip inside the winery on the way home)
Soon, Mademoiselle and Camille are cooking up jar after jar of rose petal jelly again. But something is different about this batch, Mademoiselle can't quite put her finger on the reason; it tastes good, looks pretty, but something just bothers her. But the delivery man is here for another load to the boutique so she can't worry about it right now. Word soon comes back that the powers of this batch are even stronger than before and ladies want more right away. But there are no more roses in the area! They've plucked every last rose petal around. Oh dear, now Mademoiselle is starting to get worried. She has sent messages to all the farms and vineyards around asking to buy rose petals and isn't having much luck. She may have to cease production for this season if she doesn't find more roses.
So teapotter's we are going to France for this teaparty. And we need to bring roses, lots and lots of roses. Mademoiselle has promised a supply of this wonder jelly to each teapotter. And she promises to have plenty of rose hip tea as well.
Challenge translation:
A teaparty in France surely will be fun. Bring cards with roses, tulips, and cats if you can. But remember that side trip Chaude took on the way home? don't bring that up or it's the back door for you. I want my jelly to have all the powers it can. ;)
