MMTPT210 ~ AUGUST 7, 2012 ~ COME ON DOWN! GET OUTTA TOWN!
WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY
THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING TEAPARTY
& CHALLENGE #210
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion!
Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
Come on Down, get outta town. Im not loony, theres George Clooney!
Were heading to the Price is Right we want to hear the renowned, Come on Down! To compete for a Showcase would be a delight If were not picked, theres no need to frown, Take a look at Janices gown! Janice Pennington is a real pretty Barkers Beauty Shes been there since the beginning and shes not at all snooty.
Come on Down to the Price is Right Rod Roddy said, There are three girls in my sights. One of these three will win the Showcase Showdown: Millie, Come on Down Lily, Come on Down Tillie, Come on Down.
Little did Rod know these three girls are cousins Each of them hoping that just one of them will buzz in to bid the correct price on the grand prize showcase So they all can cruise together to some exotic place.
Lo and behold, its their lucky day Theyve all been invited to play. Millie bids $42,000 Lily bids $42,000.00 - $1.00 Tillie bids $42,000.00 + $1.00 With bids so close they cant possibly lose. I guess these three are going on a cruise!
The first port of call is in Italy - the city of Naples. Where Pizza Margherita[i] is one of their staples. Lily says lets rent a convertible and tour the Amalfi coast. Millie says, I can drive and I dont mean to boast; please dont think Im loony, but I just saw George Clooney. Lily says Follow him; he just drove past that pillar. Maybe we can score an invite to his villa. Ah, Sip some wine, eat some pasta al dente Oh how sweet it would be to dolce far niente[ii]
Drive past that Duomo. Its on the way to Lake Como Tillie says we better not, if were late, the ship will leave without us. Oh me, oh my, Im getting worried and I dont mean to fuss. Dear Tillie, dont be a party pooper were here to have fun. The air is clear, the views sublime, weve got loads of time. So relax cuz, because we dont have to be back until one.
Just then Millie let out a little squeal. Its George Clooney walking towards us. Oh pinch me, is this for real? Hello, lovely ladies, we noticed you tailing our car. Would you like to join us at our fundraiser for Darfur? Millie thought to herself, dont act like a jerk Clooney is known for his charitable work. The girls looked at each other and widened their eyes A gala at George Clooneys; now thats a Grand prize! These three nodded in agreement at this handsome gent. Back in the car to return to the ship they went to unpack an appropriate outfit to wear to this event.
Off they sped back down the Amalfi Coast and headed to the moor. Tillie jumped out of the car she didnt even open the door. When they arrived at the dock, the ship had already left, it was 4:00! The girls forgot to adjust the time on their watches. Dear Tillie, calm down youre breaking out in blotches.
Take a deep breath and get composed We have to find some fancy clothes. The ship has left, theres nothing we can do. Just then, Curt the cow mooed. Having finished his espresso con crema and alerting the teapotters to the girls dilemma.
Teapotters to the rescue once again Our dear Mudder took out some paper & a pen And sent a shore to ship telegram Mudders a personal friend of the captain, Sam Shes arranged a rendezvous with the ship in a few days she has such clout; the captain will do as she says.
Now to the urgent fashion matter at hand: To dress these three to attend the gala, as planned. A pair of shoes, an evening gown and some sparkly gems That gowns a bit too long lets take it up a few hems. Something frilly, something chic Tillie wants to take a peek. Two more original creations to fashion From what we have on hand. Weve really got a knack for this; we do it with such passion. How nice to help these three travelers in a foreign land.
After a short while, the girls came out and modeled We teapotters came through with three original styles. Our enthusiasm, knowhow and talent should be bottled! Our efforts were oh so worthwhile. The girls looked gorgeous, fab and oh so glamorous (Thats a daring thing when Italian men are so amorous.)
Off our trio went looking like royalty Lets take a break and have a cup of tea No way. philsmom said were in Italy a cannoli and espresso will be just fine for me!
Challenge Translation:
Bring a glam outfit for the girls to wear, bring a fashionista, bring haute couture worthy of attending a gala at George Clooneys villa in Laglio. If you bring a frozen pizza youll be thrown overboard! Lets encourage this warrior to keep making increments of recovery and hopefully she will regain much of what she lost.
Destination Station
Our destination this week is Aurora, Colorado. If you would like a destination for your card why not send it to Laura. Laura needs some encouragement as she recovers from a very serious accident.
For more information including a video of the news cast about Laura's accident as well as the address to mail your card to, please visit Post # 308 in the Teapot Tuesday Destination Station thread. Please remember that just because you participate in a Teapot Tuesday challenge that is combined with a card drive request, it does not mean that you are REQUIRED to send your cards. It is totally 100% voluntary!
Here is a Quick Link to the Teapot Tuesday MMTPT210 Challenge Gallery.
Be sure to you use KEYWORD MMTPT210 in your upload and post a comment here so we can all see your card!
Ever want to get a jump on next week's challenge card? SCS has given Mudder permission to create an email Teapot Tuesday Cheater Group and email the challenge out on the Saturday before the Tuesday of the challenge so you girls can have the weekend to make your card. Send Mudder a pm with your email address if you wanna be a Cheater!
If you are confused about these challenges, see the first sticky post of this thread for more information. There is also a directory of individual challenges.
[i] Naples, after all, is where pizza was allegedly invented. As the story goes, Neapolitan chef Raffaele Esposito created a tomato, mozzarella and basil pizza (red, white and green, the colors of the Italian flag) for Italian Queen Margherita in 1889.
Fran, I'm in awe of your ability to put the story into verse. Writing a clever story would be challenge enough for me....but to do it with poetry would simply be IMPOSSIBLE! Thanks for hostessing today. I hope our girly cards bring Laura LOADS of cheer.
Thank you Cindy and Fran, and all the Teapotters who so generously give of their time and talent to send their creations to those who need their spirits lifted. Our entire family thanks you.
I did not post this in the gallery since it was posted over a year ago in a QFTD challenge, but the fashionista style of it was perfect to mail to Laura (and I also forgot to take a picture before I mailed it off - tongue in cheek)
This is the DIVA card I sent off today to encourage Laura along with a ton of prayers -
this young woman has a ton of determination - you can see it in her face!! Ongoing prayers for a complete recovery!!

Please forgive the shoddiness of the picture. Because of the 3-Dness (is that even a word) of the card, my scanner didn't do a good job. I tried to fix it as best I could.
I must tell everyone that I got the nicest little thank you from Laura herself. How wonderful that she has made such progress. The Teapot challenge is my favorite to participate in.
Margaret, thank you so much for sharing this. I can't wait to see the newest broadcast from the Colorado Channel 9 News Team. I spoke with my sister, Mary, (Laura's mom), the other day. She said Laura was thrilled with all her cards and was trying to send some thank-you's on her own. Mary said Channel 9 will air the piece soon (we hope it won't be much longer). Be sure that when it does I will send the link so everyone can see Laura's progress.
Wow, I got a thank you note from Laura today too!! How wonderful is that that she is doing so well - she didn't have to respond but did - what a sweet girl she is!!

Thanks Sue for sharing your thank-you card with the group. I'm so proud of Laura for trying to send a thank-you on her own. If you only knew how many sermons I've given my nieces and nephew about sending hand written thank-you's over the years *laughing* I too received a sweet note from Laura. My sister, Mary, said "Thank you for making Laura feel special." The thanks goes to the Teapotters, each and everyone of you for sharing your time and God given talent to brighten someone's day. Mary said that coloring and writing is good therapy (eye/hand coordination) for Lauren right now. Who knows maybe we'll make a stamper out of Laura. *giggle.*
SOUNDS like a great PLAN - they do say it is cheaper than therapy!! LOL
Hugs!
Sue

I was so touched to get a thank-you note from Laura this morning- and it was Snoopy, too! She wouldn't even know that he's my avatar here. I'm certainly going into work with a smile on my face. My mother certainly brought us up to be prompt and punctual in our thank yous, but all I can say is that it wore off some of my siblings pretty fast!! Seems like your "sermons" over the years worked, Susie, LOL.

Thanks for the note, Sabrina. I think Laura is trying to write thank-you notes as she is able -- which is wonderful. Her Snoopy thank-you cards were a treat weren't they? I'm so glad it put a smile on your face and made your day. I can't wait to see that news cast (hurry up huh?). And, I can't wait to see Laura again and tell her how her thank-you's have made the Teapotters day.
