Hope everyone had a Happy Easter. For us it was calm, no company due to Kiki's surgery. Poor pup, she is finally getting better, but still so attached to my youngest son! It's cute but horrible at the same time, if he leaves the room she cries!
Yes, I received the same spam email and reported it also, the person is banned from the site! Thank goodness!
It's sunny here but cold today, can't believe it's April already!
Off to do laundry, and catch up on emails! Have a good day everyone!
Good morning! Of all the Mondays we've had, this is one challenging one! DH is off to San Luis Obispo for work, DD2 is at work, but there have been challenges.
Ann, it is chilly here too and the fire went out last night so I'm getting it started again hoping things will warm up before I leave for work. Glad to hear Kiki is doing better.
Lisa, there are so many things about this site that I don't know....and I spend a LOT of time searching to find some things - like the tech area for instance.
Jean, I'm sure you know about the Native American code talkers who were critical in WWII for communication. Here is an interesting link about the code talkers: https://www.nationalww2museum.org/wa...%20battlefield. It wasn't just the Navajo.
Good morning, everyone! Goodness, can we send April back? DH left yesterday morning for San Luis Obispo which is about a 5.5 hours drive south and it was like our vehicles all decided to give us trouble. Oh? DH is gone?! Let's act up! First, the Camry hybrid has the check hybrid system error message so DD2 had to take the Sienna (our oldest vehicle - oldest and worn out!) to work. Then, on my way to work, the Yaris had an error code. Yikes! But then it cleared so I continued to work but, after work, it happened again. So I was towed to our mechanics and now I'm waiting for the tow truck to get here to tow the Camry to our hybrid mechanic. Thank goodness for our Triple A membership! Of course, with vehicles as old as ours, it is a must have. I know it doesn't sound like it, but all in all, our vehicles have been pretty maintenance free. But they are all old and have a lot of miles on them.
I'm thankful for my brother as he is loaning me a vehicle. Hopefully, the Yaris will be a quick fix. Goodness, the timing is really bad though. Between DH being out of town and then he and I are driving to Oregon this weekend for my aunt's graveside service.
I hope you are all doing well and that your April is off to a better start than mine!
Catherine, so sorry to hear about your vehicle troubles. Not a good April Fool's Day! Maybe your vehicles were just playing a joke on you and they'll both be fine! April Fools!

Yikes, Catherine.....when it rains, it....well you know.
yes I know of the code talkers, thanks for the link. The last survivor from the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor just died...102 years old.
Speaking of rain and snow, we had both today. Accumulation isn't a lot, but very heavy and wet and it never stopped all day. It was supposed to be a frozen mix but more snow than anything. They're getting slammed up north. I have found out that for whatever reason, LaCrosse seems to be a breaking point where weather either goes north or south. Don't know why but it's a thing. However, today we had a circle of snow on top of us and in every direction was more of that frozen mix. It's like we were in a snow bubble world.
Jean, we had rain all day, some heavy, but it just turned to snow and it's sticking on the grass. Prediction for 4" in the next 12 hours and 7" in the next 24-48 hours. The joys of spring in Wisconsin.
I guess a lot of us are getting rain. All the counties in my area are under flood watch. One town is to crest just under flood stage! I think we got 1 1/2" today.
We've had 2 1/2" of rain since yesterday morning. Got an email from our electric company telling us to be prepared for power outages from excessive rain and wind. I'm not seeing a lot of wind here but the rain continues.
Good morning! From the sounds of it, you all are getting a lot of weather! It is sunny and bright outside here but our weather is expected this evening. The forecast high tomorrow is 21 degrees lower than today's.
On the car front, I received good news and got the Yaris back last night. My brother was surprised when I brought his car back so quickly because he knows the mechanic (he is the one who recommended him) and Matt isn't known for being speedy but he diagnosed and fixed Bingley and we have him back. Hurray! And it wasn't super expensive, thank goodness.
My card for the letter P honors the big rodeo from my hometown. Horses are beautiful but they scare me, too many bad experiences, so I am impressed with skilled riders. In my teens, we gained access to seats right behind the bucking chutes - the first two rows behind them.
Kathy, I hope you don't lose your power. Continued prayers for your son and family.
It has not stopped raining/snowing/frozen mix since...well, I don't know when. It is very windy here too. Hard to believe it's going to be a nice weekend. I guess WI is now over the usual amount of precipitation, even though we've been under for months. I hope the Mississippi doesn't flood. No worries for me but the downtown can get messed up and some residential areas. I wouldn't want to think about that all the time. Kind of like I don't want to think about hurricanes. So I'll take the snow.
I am a disaster waiting to happen. Last week, when my family was gone, I fell in my parking area because the snow was so wet and slushy, it compacted down and became slippery. The parking area also slopes downward. I had boots on but apparently that didn't help. No harm done, not even a bruise. Well last night, I stupidly decided to take some garbage and recycling out and I fell off the back porch. I need to stop using that door when I'm carrying stuff. I caught my toe on the steps because the old steps are not to code, was carrying my recycling container and trying to open the door. Fell backwards, which could have been catastrophic but I just have a bruised elbow. Good Lord, Jean. The weather had nothing to do with the fall, just me not lifting my foot high enough and not having anything to hold onto. I can't wait for the building of my new back porch, which is supposed to happen Saturday.
No power outages, ok??

Oh my goodness, Jean! Are you trying to steal my name, "Gracie?" Or become Gracie Jr.? LOL Seriously, take care...summer is coming an you want to be healthy!

Good morning! I'm up extra early so I could see DD2 off to work since we leave today. DH got home safely last night to unpack and now pack back up to leave. Today's drive will be a long one and it is just the two of us for drivers. I have gotten used to having the girls - one or both - along to share the driving (primarily only DD2 as DD1 doesn't really like to drive with the rest of the family along).
Jean, goodness, I'm glad you didn't injure yourself worse! Please be careful and quit competing for Gracie's title!
Kathy, I hope everything is OK with Paper Pixie. That is concerning when they con't keep their schedule.
Wow, Ann, you got more snow than we did. Weather said we'd gotten 3-4 inches, but we did not have that amount on the ground. Yesterday it all melted. This morning it was sticking, but only a little between the blades of grass.
On Sunday, the boys (DH & DS) are driving down to St Louis with another couple to hopefully view the eclipse. I told DH he had to leave the car for me. I'd heard him discussing vehicles with the other couple. I think he forgets sometimes that we only have one car.
Safe travels to everyone who is heading in different directions!
I think I prefer Gracie II, kind of like Charles III. I told Liz about the fall last week but I haven't mentioned the one the other day. The new steps will be to code so I don't have to think about how high to lift my feet, I hope. And there will be places to set things. The depth of the tread will be wider too. I don't have very big feet but the depth of the present steps is pretty short.
Snow is slowly melting. I guess we maybe got 3-4 inches of heavy, wet stuff. Didn't even need to shovel after it stopped yesterday. Maybe some sun tomorrow, please. I highly doubt we will see much eclipse if any. Cloudy and rainy on Monday. Mirren's best friends family is driving to Texas for it. I don't think I'd go that far.

I am home from the License Office. My driver's license is renewed and it will have the star for the Real ID. I am not planning any trips, nuclear plants, gov't offices, but one never knows when this ID will be useful.
I have to agree, Ann, about the eclipse. Yes, it would be fun to see it, but it only lasts a few minutes, and I can't see doing the whole travel thing for that. The guys went to the one that was in 2017 ( I think), and they were going to something like Nebraska, had cloudy skies, and ended up driving all the way to Wyoming, if I remember right, but they did get to see it.
Couldnt go to card class today. I caught what DH had and I feel lousy. This is the first time I've been sick since 2019! I have a sore throat and a sinus headache.
Hi everyone! DH and I made it safely home. It snowed on us on the drive up and also the drive home today. We were in four other states besides CA on this drive. Just to get to my home town we drove through Nevada, a corner of Oregon, a little of Idaho, and back to Oregon. After the family luncheon for my aunt's service, my brothers, sisters-in-law, DH, and I went to see a family friend who lives just over the Oregon/Washington border in the Walla Walla area. She is in an assisted living place there and the six of us surprised her. It was good to see her in person.
DH and I also stayed with friends while we were in the Pendleton area and I got to see several good friends. DH even got to see a friend of his as well. It was lovely to see friends and family and be "home." I drove past the house I grew up in, my aunt's home (my mom's older sister who passed away a few weeks before my mom back in 2010), my uncle's home (who was the most recent person I went home for) and also visited other places that have fond memories for me.
We didn't actually need the AWD vehicle we rented but was thankful to have it and not need it.
My brother, who had the surgery for the device to help him control the shaking of his hands, has the appointment to get the device tuned up and functioning this Wednesday. I'm excited to hear how this helps him.
Ann, I hope Kiki is doing better now.
Melody, when the girls were in high school, their science teacher arranged for them to make a trip to Idaho just for the eclipse viewing. DH went with them as a driver, I'm like you, couldn't imagine driving all that way just for that! (My girls and DH did get to see my brother and SIL so they had a bonus.)
Jean, did any building happen on your back porch this weekend?
Yay, Lisa, so glad you got your license renewed and have the real ID taken care of too.
Kathy, so sorry you are sick and had to miss card class. There was an earthquake in PA?
Wow, Kathy, that must have been quite the earthquake. When I lived in southern California, I didn't even notice most of the earthquakes that happened down there. They would have to be sizable for me to notice them.
I hope you are feeling better today, Kathy.
It was good to sleep in my own bed last night. Now to work!
Good morning. So far we have beautiful sunny skies, so I may still get to see the eclipse, although not totality. Just around 90%, which, I'm sure will still be awesome.
Hi everyone,
well as I said on Facebook, we are more likely to see an apocalypse or alpaca lips than an eclipse today. Cloudy, although brighter than yesterday when it rained all day. We wouldn't see the totality anyway. Now if I lived where I used to, it would be better. Shelly, maybe you're seeing some??
I have relatives in New Jersey. My cousin Garry was home, felt it. His wife Cathy was at work, didn't feel it. There is a very large rock called Indian Rock near their home and some people think the rock's splits are wider. Some disagreement there. I guess the Statue of Liberty rocked.
Yes, my back porch is growing. They worked quite quickly and got the platform done. It's kind of like a mini deck. Stairs and railing yet to come. Wonder how long I'll have to wait for that, can't use my backdoor. Yesterday was not a good day to work on it.
Sorry you were sick, Kathy. I know you love your stamping group.
Catherine, glad you're home safely. Quite the quick journey with lots of driving. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we get some more snow before May.
I took Clare out for her birthday dinner on Saturday. Hmong's Golden Egg Roll. She loves their pho. I had pad nad lad. Chicken, broccoli, some kind of noodles, sauce. Oh and spring rolls which are delicious.
Not much going on around here. I'd like to be singing Here Comes the Sun but....it is supposed to only be partly cloudy, it is mostly, I'd say.

Hi ladies,
Spent the weekend at a craft retreat in Wisconsin. Rebekah was also able to join in for the entire weekend- yeah! We were spoiled by a great goodie bag that was bursting at the seams! We had a shoebox swap, door prizes, a white elephant exchange. The lady that owns the 'Gather House' also is a SU demo, so she has card kits made up and we could make the cards for a low price, so made a few of those. We all made cards as Thanks for the sponsors both for goodie bags and for the door prizes.
Geepers Jean- so glad you are OK, but that is scary to fall backwards- and glad just minimal injury! So glad you are not using the back door and SIL is working on the landing. We need to get you some bubble wrap! Gracie II....hahahaha Dinner sounds yummy!
Catherine-sounds like a nice family and friend visit for you and family. So very sorry for your loss. Hope the brain stimulator is effective for your brother!
Kathy- keeping you and family in prayers! Sorry you were sick and could not attend card class. You usually make the cards and run the card class don't you?
Melodie- did the hubby leave you a car?
We were able to view the eclipse- but only 94% and it did not really get dark. Last October, we saw an eclipse in Colorado and the entire sky went dark for a few minutes! We met son and DIL and kids at a park, and had eclipse glasses. We met a family from out of state that traveled there to see it.....We rec'd pictures from my brother #4 from the Dallas area- that was cool- also pics from a friend that went to Carbondale. We had 3 other neighbors in our backyard- was nice to catch up. Rebekah got a really cool picture of shadow from one of her trees that looked like alot of little crescent moons.
A lady at the retreat, who is also on Splitcoast lives in So Illinois along the eclipse route. She said a family in her town rented their 4 bedroom house for $10,000 for the eclipse.
Ann- hope your pup is better. And, hope the snow melted! We had 70 degrees today!
Thank You to Jan, Jayne and Ann for Birthday cards. I appreciate them! I had better get my list out and get caught up on those!
Well one reason I should have stayed in SE WI....oh well, next one is 2044. I'd be 92. Hmmmm.
My sil Scott called yesterday about finishing the porch. I think he's anxious that I'm happy but I have to take that with a grain of salt. Because he is working shorter but more shifts, he's working more days. He was going to work on it today but then he said 'a friend reminded me that I was going to rock climb with him and I really want to go rock climbing.' So nothing will happen today. He also said that he doesn't know what he's doing so he would be spending most of the day figuring that out. He says he'll come some evenings this week, he has a commitment on Saturday at the Buddhist Center near here so Sunday, he hopes to work on it. Meanwhile, every day, I get older. I love Scott very much, he's good to me but he likes and needs his play time. I doubt that he will ever outgrow that. It's really hard for me to stop these thoughts and, obviously, I have no control. But I could tell by how he's telling me these things that he wants me to agree with him about how things are/aren't progressing. Meanwhile the birds keep assaulting my house. I've asked him more times than I can count to deal with it but he keeps putting it off. If it's not a priority for him, he doesn't want to do it. I guess I'm not grateful enough.
Shelly, sounds like a fun weekend and a fun eclipse party. I remember years ago, before I was married, there was an eclipse and my Dad made some kind of eclipse watching thing out of cardboard or a paper plate with a little hole. So I have seen an eclipse, although I don't know if it was a full one.
Catherine, keep us informed on your brother's progress. fingers crossed.
Kathy, I hope you feel better.
Have a good day. We have sun!

Kathy so sorry to hear that you missed class due to illness, so unusual for you to be sick!
Jean, hope you are doing better from the fall. It is hard waiting on people to fix things in the house where you see it everyday! Ask me how I know!!
Catherine, glad you are home safe from the trip! That is a lot of area covered in such a short time. Hope things go well for your brother.
Lisa wishing you a happy birthday a day ahead of time! LOL Don't want to miss your day!
Glad you received my card already! Have a wonderful day, you deserve it!
Off to get something done and think about my "Q" card!
Welcome home Catherine! I'm glad your trip went well and you were able to see family and friends.
Jean, I'm sure it's very frustrating not having things fixed or completed. I live with a hubby, who is great, but he never seems to completely finish a job. He must be afraid if he finishes everything that he'll die. LOL Our cabin in Wis. is still under construction and it was started in 2009! Our home in Payson still needs the baseboard put on in every room (bought in 2014)! Our front deck is on the to-do list. I've learned to live with his slooowwww progress on home improvement. He has so many other good points, so I'll just go in my craft room and ignore what's not done. LOL
Kathy, so sorry you had to miss your card class because of illness. Bummer. I'm either having horrible allergies or coming down with a cold. So annoying!
I'm almost caught up for this round. I have 2 letters left, but it will be 3 come Wednesday. I've been spending a lot of time quilting lately. I have too many hobbies, but that's a good thing.
Shelly, I'm glad you and Rebecca got to attend a retreat! Such fun! I have one scheduled for late June.

Good morning! There wasn't much to the eclipse here because we were so far from the path but someone had eclipse glasses at work so I did go out and view it a time or two. There was nothing close to totality here.
My trip was over 1,300 miles just getting from here to there and back again not counting the driving while there. We were in Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington on this trip.
Last night I made my Q card as I have board meeting tonight so won't have much free time.
Jean, yay for progress on the back porch. It is so hard to wait especially when things aren't progressing very quickly. Reminds me of the joke that says, "Ladies, if he says he is going to do it, he'll do it. You don't have to remind him every six months!"
Shelly, your retreat sounds like great fun. And wow to renting their house for $10,000 just to view the eclipse!
April birthdays...yikes! Somehow I didn't have the April birthdays on my calendar so my cards will be late. I'm not sure how that happened.
Kathy, I hope you are feeling better today.
Gracie, your comment about your DH not finishing home improvement projects reminded me of my dad. On this trip, we drove by the house where I grew up. My parents built that house before I was born and didn't finish some things for decades. They might have had to finish them when they sold the house. My dad was always busy but always had more than he could possibly get done.
Thank you! Not sure what my plans are today. I do know I will not be cooking or doing dishes. My husband took the day off and he will be doing those things. He plans for our daughter to bake a cake. I did select the food he will be cooking and I think he can handle it.
