I think the Octagon is a great idea. What about shapes like butterflies? Someone in Canada produces maple leaf shaped coasters and I would love to have those!
I also like the idea of 6x6.

Once any of the black from the spider design touches that jar it's stuck. Just be really careful when you put it on the jar that you get it where you want. Mine is a little crooked. Oh well
