Great question Lori! Think of the mousepad as reusable grid paper - you still have the functionality of the grid paper, but can just wipe ink off. Since you already have the foam attached to it - it's an all in one insert for use with photopolymer stamps.
For cling stamps you would want to use just the grid paper - no foam.
Iliana, I see the mouse pad would need to be trimmed to fit the original Misti. How is the current model different, may I ask?
The reason that the original Misti that I handmade may need trimming is because the stamp area is exactly 8.5. I allowed myself 1/16" variance. On the manufactured ones, I asked the manufacturer to increase the 8.5 just a bit more so that if the cardstock was slightly wider than the 8.5 (which happens to me a lot) it would fit even with the variance in cardstock.
So the mouse pad will definitely fit in the screen printed and the new laser.
Hope that makes sense.
Am I supposed to use a foam pad with my photopolymer stamps? I've been using a piece of grid paper with mine and they seem to stamp fine. Am I placing undue stress on my Misti by not using a foam layer?
Sorry - I'm still not clear on whether or not the mouse pad is required for use with the MISTI. Is it needed or is a "nice to have" tool? Thanks. I could not find a video on My Sweet Petunia site demonstrating the advantage of the mouse pad.

I don't have one but it sounds like this:
When you are using photopolymer stamps, you need the black foam that came with your MISTI. The mouse pad can be swapped for the black foam and has the grid on it so it is easier to line up your stamps. Also it wipes clean easily. It isn't needed but sounds convenient!

Yes - think of it as the black foam pad + a forever reusable piece of grid paper all in one.
You certainly don't have to have it, but it's a fun accessory, especially if you don't want to use & recycle grid paper all the time if you're a power user
hello! i'm so excited to receive this amazing tool as a gift from my family this Christmas! glad to find this thread- i now know to ask them to order the mouse pad too!
i'm new to MISTI- how do you guys stamp unmounted rubber stamps with it? Thanks!
Naked rubber stamps can be given a few spots of temporary adhesive on the back, then stamped as you would a cling stamp. For cling rubber stamps, remove the black foam pad to stamp.

thank you so much for the info!! & Happy Holidays everyone!! I received my MISTI, the mouse pad & big bottle of cleaner as a gift this morning!! Squeeling with joy! Now if I only didn't have to cook the feast & could just stamp all day!:p
I'm wondering if there will be a Mouse Pad available with the new Mini Misti...
I would prefer to include it in my pre-order to save on shipping if it will be available.

so does everyone still love their misti? I haven't bought one yet. I started to entertain the whole minc foil thing and I see and hear so many example that are not "perfect", so I have held off.
sooooooo, which would you pick? and if the misti, what size?

The MISTI!!! There's no comparison between the two items. I have both the mini and regular size MISTI. Love the mini one, but if I could only choose one I'd definitely get the original size.
And to answer your first question, I got my first MISTI about a year and a half ago, and love it even more than the day I got it.

I kept hoping that SSS would start to carry the mouse pad but they haven't, so I ordered one from the MISTI website and I am loving it. I was using paper to stamp and then line up the negative to stamp on the die cuts. Also is great to stamp on before your paper to double check for straightness/centering. Using the pad instead of the paper is much easier and you can then just wipe it off. Would highly recommend the mouse pad if you are debating....
When I preordered by Mini MISTI I also ordered the mouse pad for the original MISTI. I wasn't going to pay shipping for that one item which would be more $$$ than the pad. When I did my Mini order there was no mouse pad for it, just the paper. Then some time later MSP added a Mini Mouse Pad but again I was not going to pay shipping on a $4.00 item.
Since them Ellen Hutson started carrying the MISTI products: both MISTIs, magnets, cleaner, grid papers, and mouse pads. I needed to place an order with EH for other things last week and included the Mini Mouse Pad! I was so happy to get it, now my MISTI collection...LOL is complete.
