Default Mixed Media Techniques forTraditional Cards

The Paper Wishes Website has been doing a series of mixed media instructional videos every other Saturday. There may be some overlap with tutorials here; I haven't chacked through them to see. The style here is not typical for mixed media. They're adapting mixed media techniques to traiditional, "lady like" card making. The results are interesting. I don't make this style card, but the techniques are adaptable, and I've learned from them This is a link to their archive of past episodes:

The most recent episode is here. I had never heard of water embossing: Scrapbooking, Die Cutting, Stamping, Card Making Classes | Paper Wishes.com

I've watched some of the videos, and most of what I've seen isn't mixed media, but maybe their definition of the term is different from mine. Some of the cards are very nice, though.

Mixed media:  the use of a variety of media in an entertainment or work of art.

They're also defining it as a variety of techniques with a variety of media.

How do you think of mixed media?

Yes, I have looked up the definition of mixed media myself during the many years I've been making mixed media projects.  I think of mixed media as incorporating more than stenciling ink on a card. To me it would have to include more than one medium (e.g. ink, paint, paste, markers, collage, textile) - a combination of those or other media. Using a variety of techniques with ink doesn't make for a mixed media project - in my opinion. I'm sure others will disagree.

Your idea of it is the idea I have always had.  So I've been interested to see what they do with the concept for their audience.

Paper Wishes is introducing media and techniques to an audience used to traditional card making. They use embossing powder in other ways besides traditional image embossing, and define that as part of mixed media. They're also introducing their audience to stenciling and other ways to use fabric besides bows.
