Last night I started to throw away some leftover strips of paper/cardstock and kept thinking these are too pretty to waste. So I grabbed a permanent marker and started writing random journal prompt words on them. I then cut them apart and put them in the same zip bag that has random words from magazines that I have cut out and saved.
I came up with the words to write down by randomly opening pages of a dictionary and then scanning the pages for words that I thought might work on a page eventually.
I have a box full of card scraps (shapes, etc. that I changed my mind about using on cards). It finally occurred to me that I can use these in my mixed media projects as embellishments, masks, for gelli plate prints. Now I just have to sit down & DO it.
Yes! I keep bags and bags of scraps, fragments of stamped images, and clay fragments that I use later on many different kinds of projects. I couldn't live without these!

This is such a great idea !! I get hung up trying to decide what I want to do, so your 'system' would provide an instant 'theme' starting point - you are just a little genius
I am going to try this FOR SURE !!!!!!!

aw shucks  thanks
Louisa May & Teegee7617 - Try boxes & boxes, yikes. I've used up a bunch of leftovers on my mixed media pages but paper scraps with handwritten words hadn't occurred to me yet, lol. Throwing away bits from background papers I'd made myself has always bothered me but now I can use them instead!
I think it may be time to go thru all of those phrases and quotes I've saved and start writing them onto my scraps.
You all have some great ideas. I also use letters cut out from magazines to piece together words. They look pretty cool and "collagey" when each letter is a different style, color, etc. Why purchase premade letters when you can find creative lettering in your magazines?
What word prompts are you using? Maybe we should list a bunch here. Here's a few to start
what ever pops into my head, pretty much any word will stir a memory. Try names of childhood friends or schools you went to.
Famous quotes are good too, such as "Live, Love, Laugh" or "A rose by any other name..."
