It's FRIDAY! That means it's time for a new Mix-Ability challenge!! We hope you're having fun with these! We are learning new things, too!
Coming up with this challenge was oddly difficult. It started out as a technique, but when I was trying to make samples, it wouldn't work the way I wanted. So, it's in the bin. Here's the second (and official) challenge.
On light colored cardstock, scribble with brightly colored crayons. Use the ones you bought for your kid for back to school. You know you want to...
Once you have lots of scribbles, with a fair amount of white still showing through, spray, sponge, or paint a dark waterbased coat over the crayons. Your paper will wick the dark water behind the crayons and make them pop. You may need to wipe over the crayon to remove any water pooling before you handle it.
You can also use oil pastels or acrylic paint in place of the crayons - anything that is bright and will resist water-based products. Try it with direct-to-paper dye inks if you don't have sprays. You can spritz it with water to get it to flow into the nooks and crannies of the cardstock. Try it with watercolor paper. Experiment - that's where the fun is!
Remember, for your project to truly qualify as mixed media, you need to use at least 2 different types of art media. You can click
HERE for a list of supplies you could choose from. If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!
Please remember to put in the correct keyword (
MIX85) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh! Go forth and be a kid!
