Default MIX543 Postcards from home- wish you were here

MIX543 - Postcards from home - wish you were here.
Date: June 23,2023
Hostess: MariLynn

Some postcard History

On February 27, 1861, the US Congress passed an act that allowed privately printed cards, weighing one ounce or under, to be sent in the mail.

Congress passed legislation on June 8, 1872, that approved government production of postal cards. According to the Smithsonian Institute, by law only postcards made by the government could have the words “Postal Card”. Others could make postcards but it cost twice as much to send.

On May 19, 1898, Congress passed an act allowing private printing companies to produce postcards with the statement “Private Mailing Card, Authorized by Act of Congress of May 19, 1898.” Postcards now could be sent for the same price as the Government one.

With my elderly mother in law living with me there are no vacations in the near future for me. So it is staycation for me. Perhaps you as well. My “wish you were here” challenge is to make a postcard. Use more than one art medium to make it mixed media. Bonus points if you mail your postcard.

Remember to use the keyword : MIX543 for your postcard to show up in the gallery HERE

I love learning things about the postal service. Thanks, MariLynn.
