Challenge Title: No Paper Allowed!
Hostess: Understandblue aka Lydia
Keyword: MIX41
Hello and welcome to another Mix-Ability challenge here on Splitcoast! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal, instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!
First of all, I'm waiting for the Mix-Ability Challenge to be older than me! 41 was a while ago
My challenge today is sort of a challenge to myself - it's something I struggle with because I love paper so, so much and find it so easy to create something fun with.
So I decided that my challenge would be a no paper allowed card!
Here are the rules.
You can use a single layer of paper for your cardstock, and that's it.
You must have a multi-layer card (at least one additional layer besides the base) and none of the other layers can be paper.
Here are some of the things that are allowable second layers:
Metal or foil.
Modeling paste.
Gesso.
Glazes.
Gels, like bead gels or other textured mediums.
Acrylic Paint or something that has a heavy body to it.
Canvas.
Fabric.
Wood.
Chipboard.
For my sample, I chose a few. I painted my card base with acrylic paint. Then I took two chipboard squares and I painted them with Ten Seconds Studio two step Ver-Day paints to give them an aged metal look.
I used copper foil tape to accent the metallic theme.
I rubbed my background with Inkagold for a little more metal.
Well it will be a long time before it gets older than me!!!
Great challenge Lydia! I love these challenges because they
make me try something new and out of the ordinary.
Thank you!
The ideas are churning -- will be back to share what I did!

MIX41 Be a Paper-Free Butterfly
I LOVE this sort of challenge. I still have burlap, acetate and wood veneer on my desk!! But I can't make another card till I can at least see my cutting mat again . Thanks, Lydia.

Here is mine ! It is simple, because I was afraid I would ruin it, if I tried to do something else! I thought about coloring on the foil. Anyway, I have had this package of foil for probably 10 years! Never opened it, and it really went thru with the die beautifully!
Thanks Lydia!
Lydia. I tried, I really did. I got my card done with some very interesting products, and textures, but I couldn't resist putting some of my quilled paper roses. The card just was requesting them. So it was either listen to you or to the card. I chose the card. SORRY. Great challenge.
Here is my card: MIX41 Couldn't do it by MariLynn - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
I thought I would try to sneak this in as the only paper I used was the fish.. On second thought I guess I could have tried to paint he fish right on the BG as they were painted anyway... The mediums used are Modeling clay, acrylic paint and I stamped the little ships and colored with watercolor pencils.

What a great challenge! Loved coming up with ideas for this one! I have the details on my blog, probably won't go through all that in the gallery! Joy & Peace
Will get it in the gallery soon.
