CAUTION this thread will contain startling pictures that include but are not limited to: Stamp abuse, neglect and disastrous storage arrangments. Some Stamp and Craft lovers may not be able to stomach the following content.
At first I could store my stamps in rubbermaid "under the bed" totes. Then came the tall multi-drawer ones. The wheels on these will break as soon as you try to move them once full. Next my husband used stacking bread trays. These were neat, safe (no weight on the stamps) and extremely HEAVY. Currently I am converting the storage situation over to dinner trays that are smaller and stack nicely. Needless to say this magnificent collection is being drastically downsized so that I will have room to stamp once again. With items stored in the Family room, Sewing room and Guest Bedroom my husband has put his foot down refusing to let me "take over" another room in the house.
When my girlfriends come over to stamp I have to Clean or Clear a space for us to stamp. Everything is "help yourself" I just love the company and we watch some favorite movies while talking and stamping. One friend said sometimes it seems a grenade went off, and other times a tornado got must have gotten trapped down here. She is a great person and I keep telling her, just wait until it is all organized. My husband even suggested that I pay someone to help me organize it. The problem is "Where do I put it?" and "How do I store it without things getting ruined or causing an avalanche?".
The Horrifing pictures will be in my next post on this thread.
Thanks for having such a GREAT contest!! I can't believe I'm going to let people see this.
OK I am doing my best to post these but the computer must be in shock.
The first picture is of the Bread Trays. Next our stamping spot, we wheel the other chair out of the computer room, sit side by side stamp while watching TV. Finally, I have the dinner trays out where I am putting the stamps in groups. This way when they are stacked I can find what I am looking for a little easier. Here's to hoping anyway.
There will be more photos posted, probably best to ease you in slowly.
The debate on if I should do a Scrapbook called "Scrapyard to Scrap Space" is now over. I was truely considering not doing it because the thought of anyone seeing my disaster was humiliating. Now that I have shed my dignity for a chance to win a Scrap Box, why not document it!!!! Thanks for the kick in the pants! You can watch my progress even if I don't win. To be honest after looking at my pictures it may take more than this fabulous prize to get me organized.
This was my husbands favorite room. He was so proud of how nice it looked once we finished it. The basement took a long time to finish and this was the first room that was complete.....Until I filled it with stamps because it was a shame to waste all that space. Realistic honesty, I would like to be able to say "you can stay at our place" once in a while. Say it without the worry of how much time do I have to find the bed, maybe the sleeper sofa would be easier to find. This is a huge argument between my husband and me.
I organize a swap, yes organize, now don't look at your computer like that. The ladies think I am an organizing guru, now the deep, dark, DIRTY secret is out. With a cringe and forgive me smile I give you THE GUEST BEDROOM.
Well I am having a huge sale this weekend. My husband says that everytime I get rid of one thing I bring home two others to replace it.
The ISO forum has been my friend this year, I have been letting go of some neglected stamp sets to make room so my friend and I can actually use the ones I keep.
The ladies that have received stamp sets that they had given up on ever finding have been thrilled. Granted I should visit that thread alot more often. Some of the oldies are just soooo good! My hubby even says "don't sell them, just organize them". He is convinced that I will just buy the sets back later so I should keep them. Once a set is gone I miss it from time to time, but have not replaced any of them yet, just felt like if I didn't use it before I most likely won't now either. So as you can see, (well will see) I am making progress. That's the real reason why you can see the floor in some spots.
Whoo Hoo getting better at this....now to just get better at posting the pics.
Unfortunately, yes there is more. You may be able to spot a couple spots that are organized. This is a work in progress.
[FONT="Lucida Sans Unicode"]Notice the baskets of punches on the floor under the peg board. My husband freaked by the weight of them and said I would pull down the wall. So the Black stacking things had to move and the silver baskets are now on the floor. He discovered this after he had put the new pegboard above the table with the blue table cloth. That peg board will be full soon, the table already is. My daughter loves that each Martha Stewart punch is labled. These little wood racks fit them perfect. A Goodwill treasure, wish I could get more.[COLOR="Blue[SIZE="4"]"]Next is the Sewing room, with trays and totes full of stamps tucked in any open space. Then a bolt of fabric, as seen in so many other pictures entered in this contest. How fitting considering we all must be cut from the same cloth.

Ooo! I like your punch storage! Do they have hinges to open up? I think I've seen something similar at Michael's to store tole paint in.
Yes, hinges on one side and a little latch on the other. I took the hinges and latches off, sanded the rough spots and sprayed the whole thing with Polyurithane. Then put them back together. No one could "see" my progress that day but I knew that I had put the work in. They were just rough pine before so any ink or dirt would have stained them.

Thank You!!!
We used to foster dogs. You and your family are true ANGELS! On behalf of all of the future families lucky enough to have you save their future pet by fostering it first, THANK YOU!

I got as far as taking pictures of my space but couldn't quite get myself to broadcast them on this forum. I feel better about my mess now that I've seen some other people's spaces!
Yes, I must admit that from the Friendship swap, I thought you were one of those superorganized women. I guess we all have secret lives about some things! ;)
Not to copy emsmomthestamper but yesterday I saw a sentiment on There She Goes site. It was something to the effect of there is a very fine line between crafting and mental illness. I thought I qualified, but I think some people requite inpatient treatment.:twisted: Good luck!
Oh my God Melv, you surely are a girl on a mission. My vote will certainly go with you. Maybe you can find a contest to win like "Win the contest and we will organize the room for you" Wouldn't that be great? Think maybe they would have a problem too. Good luck kiddo! Di
Just think some day I hope to have my house just as organized as the swap!! The DVD's are alphabitized once again. That was always a constant until my daughter loved the look on my face as she emptied the shelf with glee and laughter. Now she has out grown that, and even asks before using my craft supplies. She is very partial to Stampin' Up and PrismaColor brands! Another high end artist (LOL). What can I say she has good taste.
I'm sure you ladies will tease me more at the cabin.
Mel
The way I see it, is I am jealous of all the wonderful stamp sets you must have and all the supplies you must enjoy. I haven't been doing this long, but I find with this hobby I want so much of everything, it gets addicting really fast. I have rearranged my small craft space at least a dozen times in the past 6 months, but it's easier for me I don't have any where near the stuff you do, but I am working on it... If you are getting rid of anything with wildlife on it let me know, I can't afford much, but if it's a deal I will make an exception once again to my budget. I will definitely be at the sale.
I can't get myself to take pictures of my area. Just picture plastic totes and plastic bins.....then plenty more of them stacked on top of each other....see through but not knowing what's in them...its a sad, sad story. Funny thing is that my hubby loves the clean and organized look....it drives him crazy......

This may be too late but I hate to leave people hanging. I have been an artist in my own mind for as far back as my earliest memories. Art and Math seem to be the gifts God blessed me with. When I grew up children were seen and not heard so I would draw pictures (quietly) then give them to the people (friends and family) in my life. This got such positive response that it has always been a part of who I am. This is also wonderful part of who my daughter is.
Over the last year I have donated most of my cards to "Cards for Troops". My friend finds out what kind of cards the soldiers would like, Then we make cards for them so they can send the cards to their family and friends. My husband and I were both in the Army so we have a little personal experience to draw from. He is very supportive of my hobby too. The rest of my creations are usually gifts.
When I worked (72-80 hours a week) my goal was always planning for retirement. This is why my collection is so big. Then much sooner than planned I was Medically Retired from Law Enforcement. One of the main things my doctors keep insisting on, is that I relax. Well, making stuff is how I relax. My daughter LOVES to craft we have a wonderful time together making memories while making things. Sometimes it is great just to know that from my goof ups I can help someone else. Even if it is someone I just met in a craft store. When you feel kind of cut off from people crafting is an open door to a moment of friendship. Sometimes these people will never cross our paths again and other times they become life long friends that we get together with on a regular basis. That said it all starts with the desire to create something original for someone special.
There are so many wonderful women in this contest that my heart goes out to the judges. It had to be hard to pick just ten. This contest has been such a gift just to see other women with the same "mess" as me. What a great way to connect with people. My friends and I were talking about the different stories we had read on this thread while we were stamping this past weekend. They had some fun teasing me about the pictures I posted too. See, still a great way to connect with people.
Thank you so much for helping this happen for some lucky Lady!
Mel
Mel, so sorry you didn't make it. You have such a great heart. Maybe you will win something even better some other time. Thank you again for the great deal on the paper. Can't wait to see you & everyone else again. It was truly an exceptional weekend. Have an awesome day......TLQ
this was the highlight of my day. Mine is even worse, we have no bed in our
extra two bedrooms. Kids are gone and on their own, why keep a bed when they don't stay overnight. Now I have one bedroom for stamping, one for scrapping.
I realize I've gone to far. Now, I have two messy rooms. I need to downsize and start making more cards and using them; and not be enabled by every new thing that comes along.
