Just when I get my craft room perfect, I have to move all my stuff to a corner of the living room. My current 12"x12" and 81/2"x11" paper storage works fine now, but will take up too much space once I move to the LR.
Will 12x12 paper fit in a standard filing cabinet? The measurements say yes, but I want to be sure. This is the one I'm looking at unless anyone has a better idea...
I don't think it will fit in a standard size filing cabinet, if you use folders. Maybe if you don't use any folders at all it will fit? I'm not sure on that either though...hope someone else can chime in for you!
I own that exact filing cabinet. I tried 12x12 papers in it when I first got it but they were too tall. I then took a sheet of 12x12 standard cs and a sheet of pp with the logo strip on the side to Office Max with me. I tried them in all of the filing cabinets, but none of them fit. The salesman told me that they do have specialty filing cabinets I can order that should fit them, but the prizes were insane. Over $1500, and that was a year ago.
Thanks everyone, for your replies! Lol, if I could afford a $1500 filing cabinet, I wouldn't have to worry about using my living room... Good to know if we ever get rich, though!
The file cabinet configuation does not have a bottom, so 12x12 paper will fit IF YOU USE BOX BOTTOM FILE FOLDERS. Legal size file folders with a 3" Box Bottom (also referred to as 3" Expansion Files) will fit into the Effectiv file cabinets. I checked by taking one to the Ikea store near me and testing it for clearance. The box bottom hanging files add just enough height to allow 12x12 paper to fit in nicely, but let just a bit of it peek out so you can see your paper.
To really make an easy-to-use set up, go get yourself some Smead Viewables labels for your hanging file system.
This is the system that I am going to use, as soon as I repair a wall in my soon-to-be-amazing craft studio!
From what I understand, these are the most sturdy of the various brands. The file cube DOES hold 12 x 12 paper. It will also hold the 8.5 x 11, obviously. Cubes are almost 17 inches in all directions.
This is what I think I am going to get when we finish redecorating - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10116967 I have seen workspaces where they take out the bottom inside drawer and the 12x12 fits inside nicely.
$140 for white/$160 for wood veneers also is better for my budget than some of the other options.
