Hi,
Does anyone out there have any suggestions as how to store these little bottles. I know stampin up has a ink pad storage system with the refill bottles on top, but I don't have room for that. I have them in one of the old tin boxes that I got a punch and some ink pads from a long time ago, and I store them there. However, trying to find the refill is time consuming.
I would appreciate any suggestions any one can give me.
Brenda, I love your idea of adding a little cardstock circle to the top of the bottle to identify the colour.
I've added this right to the top of my organizational to do list. TFS!
I store mine in the same Unikeep binder boxes that I use to store stamps and dies. I store them on a shelf and I have never had one leak. I put Velcro strips in the box and attach little pieces of Velcro to the bottle and stick them in. Here are a few pics.
I store stampin' up refills by colour family in the clear wood mount stamp cases that Stampin' Up sells. I used to keep them in a drawer and every time I needed one I had to look at every single bottle to find the right colour. I keep the stamp cases on a shelf.
THIS THREAD discusses using nail polish racks for them - looked like a good idea to me. I put a dot of gesso on the lid of each of my refills, then tapped a bit of ink on it so I could see which color was where. They are all in one of these: 3.5L Bakery Box - Klip It Utility - Sistema Plastics
I'm going to have to try your gesso idea, Sue. Either that or I'll get out the 1/4 inch punch and my Crystal Effects. That's the only thing that's not done...yet.
I use 2 of those boxes from Staples too, they are the perfect size. I need to get a third one since I've finally bought 3 inkpads and reinkers from the last 2 InColor groups. I keep and use retired colors as well.
I keep mine in the old SU clam shell cases (I took all of my background stamps out of the cases. I don't know if SU currently ships their new case style with their background stamps).
Nothing fancy here, but they're all full so they stay in place most of the time. The little kitty post it note is just a make shift inventory list of what I have and what I still needed to purchase, which I never got around to doing.
I have 4 of these because I have the old school SU colors. They are stored vertically along with my SU stamps which are all in SU clam shell cases.
I store mine in the DVD double wood case. To "label " tops., I scribble a small blob of matching marker and punch it out with a small punch and use a glue dot in the depression to adhere the color dot to cap. Fast if i have the matching marker. Stamping a dot with ink pad is also an option. Avoids a missing spot from card stock. You know that piece would have been project perfect if you hadnt punched it.
I am so glad you asked this Q as just 2 days ago I was thinking how I do it stinks. Which is a box with pads and another with refills and yes, I am digging around and it drives me nuts and I'm running out of room.
Would be excellent for distress inks where I might have the matching pen. Otherwise I would be happy with just the pad/re-inker one.
What I like most is that I can put my hand on it all together and see immediately if I need an ink refill too.
But who has all that wall space or work space? :( If I dream enough, think they could make one where three of them are hinged together and you swing them out to get to the next one?
I recently created boxes using the gift box punch board - one box for each color group. They now store easily in a drawer. Here's a link to my blog post which contains pictures: DIY Storage Idea for your ink pad reinkers ~ Escape2stamp
I use a medium organizer from Close to My Heart. That size is also terrific for Project Life, Simple Stories, etc. pocket cards or A2 card fronts. Full disclosure: I am a CTMH consultant (Cre8withVesta.CTMH.com).

Perfect idea! I'm doing the same!

I just copied this idea and it is so-o-o- perfect.
One case will hold 36 Memento ink refills which is all the colors they have. It will take 2 boxes if I ever have all the Distress ink refills.
I was able to get 4 rows of Velcro across the case for the Memento ink refills
But only 3 rows of Velcro across for the Distress inks because the bottles are taller.
In Addition to Stamphappy1650's system using very little space all of the names on the bottles are facing forward so I can find the color I want without pulling half of the bottles out of the box until I find the one I need.
I had made color tabs for the tops of the bottles but often it is difficult to distinguish between the colors on the tabs .
It would not be good to reink a Barn Door ink pad with a Worn Lipstick reinker

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I found the perfect solution for me. It is Creative Options Thread Organizer. I found it on amazon and it was about $7.00. If I remember correctly, it holds about 50 bottles. It opens in front and in back. I just bought some new ink refills, so I am probably going to buy another one. It is a plastic case and it fits my cupboards perfectly and it is easy to see the colors of the bottles.

I hope this helps others.::p
This looks like it will work great for me - thanks! I am hoping they will have it at JoAnn's or Michaels.....

I too have been struggling with this, funny the types of things we struggle with. The sad thing is if you find something that is meant for stampers, it is usually an arm and leg, so to speak and if you find something comparable and meant for for something else it seems to be less. Why is that?
Do you have a picture of your solution? I would love to see it.
My SU reinkers are in their original boxes, but my other reinkers (Distress, Impress, etc.) are in old SU clamshell boxes, sometimes with their mini ink pads.
I'm jumping back in this morning because I had a smack-me-in-the-forehead moment last night. I needed to find a refill for my Bashful Blue and had a heck of a time figuring out which refill was where, since I'm looking at the tops of the bottles (yes, there is a dot of color - still tedious).
I pulled out my ultra fine point Sharpie (it's one of the retractable type) and wrote the name of the color on the cap of each one, then put them back in the box in alphabetical order (how my brain works). Now I can see at a glance which color is where - no more pulling out bottle after bottle until I land on the right one!
That's what I'm doing until I convert to the thread organizers that Stampinloco uses - that looks like a better way to go, and I'm thinking that my Liquid Pearls and Stickles will fit in those, as well...

Great idea!! I have several of these Unikeeps ... I could see a switchover here in my future. Thanks!
For those of you who need to put labels on the refill caps, the attached chart may help. I use this chart to label my marker end caps. I punch the labels with a 1/4" circle punch and glue to my marker caps with tombow mono.
Since I don't use the labels for this purpose it might not work for you, but I thought I'd share anyway.
I store mostly in drawers, so that's where my ink pad refills are. I have a thin piece of wood that separates the rows and punch a circle out of the corresponding card stock so I know what color it is. I store them in the same order as I do the paper and ink pads in their drawers, so rarely have to check more than 2 bottles to hit the right one.
You are my new heroine. I felt great when i got down to looking in no more than three places for what I wanted to use. Reinkers are in dvd cases by color. I just havent used them yet.
I use the stamp n scrap shelving unit that holds the SU! Marker, pad, and refill. Agree with the comment that storage for items that are stamping specific cost more. This is one case I found very worth the investment.
All other brand refills, and SU! retireds are in a Really Useful Box with little colored dots on the top of the bottle.
Joanns and Michael's frequently double the price of items then they give people a 40% off coupon and the customers think they are getting a bargain LOL

Sad, but true... I used to buy so many amazing things for home decor at Joann's before they started doing this! Their "sale" price is now what the normal pricing used to be. I only buy on clearance now (when it's 70%-90% off), if at all. It makes me cranky, so I mostly don't even go there, lol...
I'm have the funky up cycled system! As you can see, I don't have lots of re-inkers!
That's way more fun than all of the "utilitarian" ways I have my items stored! I'd love to have a funky/fun space, but apartment living is not really conducive to that. If/when we have a house again, I plan to have a "folly" in the back yard for my crafting studio, and it will be FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
