For me, it has to be my hand held punches. I have 2 bookcases filled. They are separated into categories (flowers, borders, and so on),and then in plastic bins. I do love having all of them, but the space they take up is crazy!!!
The other thing would be paper, both cardstock and decorative. I know I'm addicted.
How about you, what takes up your space? How do you handle it?
Cardstock and designer paper take up alot of my space. I just had to have all those
pretty papers to match my cs. Now that I have been stamping for a while, I have
noticed that I'm leaning more toward C and S style and hardly use the paper I have.
I've been thinking of giving most of it away but I'm just not there yet. KWIM?
I'd go with punches but the tote boxes of items ready to be scrapbooked run a close second...the good thing,,,the tote boxes are from a school surplus auction and they originally held a math program,,,,,I was lucky enough to buy two of the wheeled platforms designed to hold the totes, and 5 of the totes.....all for $5.00. My third child's life is in two of them waiting for me to get busy.....I gave child 1 and 2 (girls) their own set of scrapbooking tools/materials and all the boot boxes that held their lives when they finished college and married. I am doing the boys (child 3 and 4). Child 4 is almost done...just have to finish his senior year of high school( hopefully before he graduates college.)

Clutter ... lots and lots of clutter. Seems like lately my crafting area has become the household dumping ground .. getting ready to do a fly lady on the place!

Stamps! I swear they are like rabbits and multiply:-) As for the punches, can you put them on the wall? I have mine on the rails from IKEA and I love love love it. They are out so I can see them, easily accessible, and out of the way!
Stamps take up the most physical space, however it's space I would not otherwise use for much so it works out well. I lined most unused wall space high and low with narrow pine shelves that house most of my stamp sets.
Second would be paper, third punches. Like Minders, I use towel racks I found at ikea
years ago for punch storage/display.
bet you don't put stamps in with his tools. i say tell him to get his own room!
i have a great room all to myself. now my dh has a whole building! 40x40 steel building. when i complain he tells me we can switch. NOT! he has no heat. no water. but he made sure he has TV w/ dish and the NFL network.
Coming in a close 2nd is my unemployed 27 yr old son, who is ''renting" the floor in there... we don't want him to get too comfy, so we make him haul a mattress in there every night and haul it out in the morning. The drawback is that I can't stamp in the middle of the night anymore!
The dog beds scattered on the floor (3 of them) and the extra chairs so they can also sit next to me while at the computer. (Yes, I need my head examined for starting the chair thing). I don't let them sit next to me while I craft, as they either try to crawl into my lap or lift my arm to entice me to pet them. Can really mess up scrapbooking and sewing.

You are all so funny ! The dogs were the funniest !
For me it's the unfinished projects in baskets. I constantly see brilliant ideas on other blogs and have to try them! This year I am only allowing myself ONE basket. I can imagine how long that will last !
I just cut up all my 12 x 12 paper into 6" squares and filed them into boxes sorted by family/color. Having them already cut to size for card making is so much more handier than having them stand up in file cases. I found I was starting to bend them while searching. I only have a very small amount of 12 x 12 dp for scrapbooking. I also found I would pull out the larger sheets and they would end up laying on my desk when I discarded them for the project.
Even though 90% of the stamps I own are unmounted, they still take up lots of space! I don't have alot of punches anymore since I have so many Nestabilities/Spellbinder dies. I put those on a wall covered in magnetic sheets in front of my die cutting machine. Now I just have to find a way to store those 6x6 and 8x8 paper pads.

Oh, they are sooo cute! I wouldn't be able to resist such sweeties either. We adopted Cammie last April and are having a hard time finding a way to make her feel comfortable (and stay put) when we are crafting. She just wants to be held so badly. We don't know what her previous environment was like, but clearly she didn't get enough affection.
Now, as far as what takes up room.... stamps are definitely the biggest craft item, followed closely by dies, punches, stamp pads and reinkers and of course paper.
I would say my dies ... don't get me wrong I'm addicted to stamps, but my dies are outta control! Oh and my late grandparent's long dresser (w/ an awesome glass top) that holds my GrandeMark & Cuttlebug - that takes up a ton of space! I'm in the process of re-doing (but who isn't) so, I'm looking forward to a bigger "path"
SU stamp sets! I am constantly rearranging things to make it "easier"....My ink pad tower takes up a lot of room, but not nearly as much as if I had to store them some other way.
My biggest problem is my punches also. They are really bugging me. I have ideas on what I would like to do with them but keep wanting to change it to something different. So here they sit. All cause I want everything at an arms length to grab when i am crafting.
I also want to organize my unmounted stamps. I hate having to dig through a drawer to find the one I want.
hmmm... probably punches and paper for me. Yes, I have the Bygel rail from IKEA (probably 6-8 of the long ones), plus 3 of the 3-drawer jet max cubes filled with them and a separate container just for Halloween ones.. yep, probably punches. Although maybe the paper edges it out since I have an entire shelf in the storage room for the retired card stock a well. hmmm.. ok it is the paper! LOL!
Since I managed to get rid of the daughter and husband from my room:twisted:, the worst space hog in my craft space is our business accounts. I really want a craft room and an office but don't we all? (sigh...)

Wow, great question! I've never really thought about this before. But I guess it would have to be cardstock as I have about 1 entire shelf on my bookcase dedicated to it. Then next would be stamps, spread around here and there, mostly in baskets (clear stamps in CD cases then put in baskets by category) but some in scraponizers on the shelf like that.
I suppose the guest bed takes up the largest amount of space. Not much I can do about that.
As for actual stamping stuff, my stamps by far. My SU! demo is also my friend, and she cared for my cat the last time I went on vacation. She had never really poked around my stamp room before, because I always go to her house. Her comment upon my return: "I had no idea you had that many stamps." Lol!
I have enough cardstock and patterned paper to cover the entire Western hemisphere! I have put myself on a paper spending freeze, but clearly I should have done that YEARS ago. I am currently looking for any and all ideas that help me use the paper I have. Second would be my Cricut Expression, but even if it was as big as a bed, I'd still make space in my room for it--love it!

It would have to be paper for me, and more paper. Paper in most of the cubbies under my desk, paper takes up the whole bottom shelf of the book case, a paper tower under my work counter. Paper in slots on top of the work counter, and then there is the paper in another tower that my TV sits on.
Oh, and I am going to my favorite paper LSS tomorrow!!
I am with the majority it seems, patterned paper and punches! I have my punches now in a 5 drawer wide Sterilite tower, but they are so heavy that it makes the lower drawers hard to open and close.
I love the idea of the IKEA rails but I don't really have room for them anywhere on the wall (have to think of a way to reconfigure things to remedy that!) I would love to be able to SEE them all and have them easily accessible. They would get WAY more use that way.
I just organized all of my DP by manufacturer and I love having it that way, next project is to sort by theme/holiday. AND to figure out what to do with my punches!

Do you have a door in your room? Mine are all on the wall directly behind where the door opens. That space was unusable for other things because of the door opening.. but it is a perfect space for punch rails... lined up the whole wall with them. HTH!

That's an idea!!!! My craft room is the loft on the 3rd floor of our townhouse. There is a door that leads to the storage closet, currently the ladder leans against that wall, but I've been meaning to find a new home for the ladder! One must be creative when you do not have a basement or garage and only a small shed!
I can relocate the ladder and put the rails there. Now to plan a trip to IKEA, the nearest one is over an hour away and I noticed they don't sell the rails online. Since it's a trip to get there I feel like I can only go if I have LOTS of extra money to stock up on goodies, but I should plan to go JUST to buy the rails or else I will never get there!
Thanks for the tip!

Awesome! I recommend the longer rails if they fit vs the smaller ones, especially if you have a lot of punches. The more room the better, right? Also, just so you know the rails do not come with screws. Each rail as a spot for 4 screws on each side = 8 per rod, but my DH used sheetrock screws & only put 2 (diagonal) on each side and they are fully loaded and have held fine 2+ years, so you can get by with 4 for few less holes in your wall just in case you ever remove them. (not that I plan to but that was DH's planning).
I have an antique treadle sewing machine table in my craft room. It was intended to hold my sewing machine but I find that I rarely sew on my cards so it sort of takes up space. Sometimes I use it to cut dies with my Big Kick but mostly it gathers dust.
Time for some rearranging!
