Hey Stampers,
I needed a new Ranger's craft sheet. Mine was totally beat up, ripped, stained and too small. I was searching for other craft sheets online, when my darling husband told me "It is a TEFLON sheet. They are used for heat presses. Search for that."
Here is what I found on Ebay: Click Here!

I use teflon oven mats, both the thin black and the thicker light brown ones that look like place mats. I can't remember where I got mine, but I think I paid $5.00 or less each for multi packs.
Mine was around $5 on Amazon - you can search for 'teflon sheet' for lots of size/price options. Right now there is a pack of 5 for $15... in my cart! The one I've been using has a couple of worn spots so it's time for an upgrade at my house.
Tesoro, personally, I don't think $15 is a bargain for a Teflon sheet. It's funny that if you shop in the sewing area, it's called an applique sheet. In the baking aisle, it's a baking sheet.
I'm a cheapskate. There, I said it. Parchment paper works just as well and you can throw it away when it gets really messy or torn.

Because it's waterproof, you can put paint and ink directly on it to use as a palette. Because it's heatproof, you can iron on it and not get interfacing adhesive on your iron. Because it is non-stick, you can line a baking sheet so your cookies don't stick to the pan.

I found these cutting mats in Dollar Tree - two in a package for $1. I'm still using the first two - I keep them in two different places so they are handy. If I'm going to do something really messy, I lay a sheet of wax paper on them. They store flat - either on their side or laying down - if you want to put them away. See the 2nd photo:

I paid a lot less than that at JoAnn's. I got the Ranger sheet with my 40 or 50% off coupon. I then cut them into smaller sizes. I now have 2 of them and I paid around $10 for the 2 them. They are around 9" X 12" once I cut them.
Did you see the SIZE of my purchase? 16x24! That's why its $15. That is just enough to cover my desk and self-healing cutting mat underneath. It's perfect for me.

I just checked on line @ Joann's They have their Ranger Craft sheet on sale for $10.79. The actual size is 15"X18". I guess I cut them to be 15 X 9 inches. The regular price is $17.99. Here is the link to the online site.
I love the craft mats. I do a variety of crafts. Paper crafts, painting and polymer clay, I use these mats. I especially love them for polymer clay. I can stick them in the oven and bake the polymer clay and not have to change out to anything.
I personally love to use these instead of parchment or Kraft papers, because you end up having to throw out the paper. We waste enough and I just hate wasting any type of paper. These mats last forever.
I've had 2 mats for 3 years and they still look like new. They've been glue gunned, baked, painted on etc. I'm careful not to use knives on them, but I use a sharp blade when I cut my clay without any damage. They are extremely resilient. They do cut down nicely too. I bake my polymer clay in a toaster oven and I cut one of the mats to sit nicely in the little pan that goes to the oven.
I think that I might grab one of these for a friend of mine. She's new to crafting and I think she'll love it as a Christmas present.

DenverKat- Thank you so much for the polymer clay tip. I work in polymer clay too. All these years I owned one of these mats never used it in my toaster oven. You made my whole night with this tip. Big Thank You.
On to mats. I got my mat for $5 at the local grocery store. It's a huge mat. Grocery stores usually sell them around Christmas time.
I'm sorry, I must not have been clear. I would never put a self healing mat in the oven. You wouldn't know what type of toxic fumes that could release. We were talking about the ranger type mats. They are a type of teflon. The ranger mats can be baked on. I've used them in a 500 degree oven with no warping, no burning, really no anything.
I guess I should have stated that I was talking about the Teflon Craft Mats/Ranger Mats, not a self healing cutting mat.

I was explaining that if you use a self-healing or any other cutting mat on your CRAFT TABLE with a teflon or Ranger sheet on top of it, your cutting mat will warp if you use any type of heat, like an embossing heat gun or hot glue gun.
I wasn't talking about putting a cutting mat in an oven!

You're fine! Someone had mentioned having a a teflon mat on top of their cutting mat. The teflon mat can take the heat but it doesn't necessarily protect a non-heatproof surface underneath it.
Are these kinds of mats worth it? Can you get a clean image when you stamp on them?
I've been using a self - healing cutting mat with grilling for years, but I rarely cut. Just wondering if this would be a better choice.
I use a mouse pad when I stamp. I have a few from the dollar store. I have them scattered about. I do use them under my teflon mat usually, just to keep from getting ink all over.
I do find that they are worth it, especially when I'm inking and or gluing. It keeps the mess confined to that area and easy to clean up.
Hi, newbie here. I use a silicone sheet that is meant for cookies. Works great. It is heat tolerant, but not resistant. So don't put a cutting mat under it.
The silicone mat I use (Like I stated) is for cookies/cupcakes, I bought the one that is a bit thicker and its flexible. You can fold it, roll it, heck fire, I've even stuck the darn thing in the dishwasher if its really dirty.
On a side note, any one know a cheap source for those wobble thingys you can put on cards to make an element wiggle? Thanks also for the welcome!

They are worth it if you do a lot of heat techniques or messy inks. Good for your heat gun and what not heat things. I don't feel good so I can't remember all the what not heat things right now.
I know a lot of the ladies use them for all the messy ink techniques popular in Tim's wonderful technique world. The mats wipe off easily. Messy things I usually just have one of those Dollar Tree cutting mats or Dollar Tree sketch pad. Not heat resistant but good for messy.
Stamping the mats would be sucky. I have a nice piece of foam I got at Michaels for $1.00 I stamp on. I got it in the kids foam section. I have used a mouse pad too. In all my brilliancy I grabbed my mouse pad I use my mouse on and made a big stamping mess on it. Only I can make a big mess on something important but not a cheap piece of foam, lol. I use the foam now.

Thank you. That was helpful. I think I'll stick with my cutting mat. I do emboss but I have a separate cork trivet where I use the heat. I don't do messy techniques.

I had always thought the silicone mat was heatproof - to me that meant no heat went through it to the surface below - so glad I've been told otherwise. Thanks for the info.
