Ok, so every time I make a card, I make a mess. Huge. Huge. Mess.
I just figured out why. Well, part of why anyway.
The problem is, I keep all of my supplies together. All tape/adhesive stuff is in one photo box. That's great for storage, but then I have to take the whole box out every single time I make a single card.
Multiply that by every single thing you need to use every single time and...
CHAOS.
I need to put together a small basket that holds everything I use for every single card. What would you put in such a basket.
black brown ink pads
distressing tool
bone folder
ruler
scrubber and mist
heat tool
embossing buddy
a few specific pens for doodles and such
go to Stickles colors
cutter blade replacements
color coach
SAMJ
crop a dial
stubs
redline or scoretape

I think you are on to something! Your embossing "kit" you could grab when you need it. I have my color coach accessible to my stamping area so I wouldn't have to take that anywhere. I would grab Stickles the same way I would grab an ink pad - based on the card. Stubs for coloring (I think!) and redline/scoretape or whatever adhesive is your preference.
What I keep in my handy dandy take-with tote:
scissors, adhesive, scoring tool, and dimensionals. These stay in this tote no matter what. And I replenish as I need to from my bigger stash.
Then I grab the cardstock I want to use, any punches I'm thinking about, and of course the stamps and ink!
distressing tool is a round item that has notches in it that you tuck the edge of paper into and move it along the edge to give it a chewed up appearance. SU sells a "kit" that includes this and a perforator, cutter and scorer
embossing buddy you swipe on the cardstock before you stamp and then sprinkle with embossing powder so the EP only sticks to the ink and not the static on the cardstock...als SU available
Sickles...OMG glitter glue of the best quality. I use Stardust and Waterfall the most but it comes in tons of colors. Made by Ranger (i think) available lots o places
color coach...SU is revamping and it will be swatches of each cardstock that you can design with and it have color theory and other info included
stubs are used with odorless mineral spirits to blend prismacolor pencils
redline tape is very sticky strong tape that is used for 3c item building, gliutter holding etc...SU available
Scoretape is a similar item available in more widths but paper backed and tearable by hand whereas redline you have to cut and it's plastic backed.

Here's what I keep on my desk (in cute little baskets that help me stay organized):
1. acrylic blocks (if you use stamps that need them)
2. mono (or whatever adhesive you prefer)
3. dimensionals
4. small paper snips
5. ribbon scissors
6. paper piercing products (piercer and mat)
7. Stazon Ink
8. pencil
9. paper cutter
I hope this helps. I have a desk that was made for holding a computer, so I keep my paper cutter where the keyboard (a drawer) would be.

Oh boy... this is getting exciting. I might just buy a basic thingie at Walmart, decide what I'd change, and make my own to fit it once I know what I need.
I wonder if I should buy that SU tool or if I should stick to my steak knife. No pun intended.

I keep similar items on my desk. I don't use stazon, but keep brilliance white and black, versamark, and memento black on my desk. My heat gun hangs on the side of my desk and I keep a small long arm punch for brads.

Maybe that's what I need. Maybe I need to take a cropping tote bag thingie and fill it for stamping and keep it refilled. That way I can take it out of the room at night and put it back in the morning. hmmmmmmm
some good ideas - everytime I start a project I tell myself "this time I will stay organized" - hasn't happened yet but you gals are getting me closer / LOL

WEll--for what it's worth.....All my essentials except for cardstock of course are on a pegboard right above my work space. Adhesives(including Crystal Effects and dimensionals) in a pegboard divided basket thingy from Home Depot, sponges/daubers in a smaller one....Ink pads in wire mesh right below the pegboard, trimmer, scorpal and cutting mat right at hand/foot(they sit on the floor at my feet --leaning up against the cabinet when I am working.) Stamp set being used is on work surface, all others in cabinet to left of workspace. CB, Nesties, Copics, ect in cabinet to right of workspace.
If I am going to a stamp club meeting, then I have one of the divided totes like another post alluded too that holds, scissors, a CM pen holder with bone folder, embossing tool, pencil, craft knife, tweezers, and so forth; adhesive with refill, go to hole punch for brads OR my mat pack, and any special items we are to bring.

long blade scissors work perfectly fine too... ( just dont slip and cut your finger) blood does not come out of cardstock or paper..
Hello from the other side of the Pond ladies! Some excellent ideas in this thread, thanks for sharing them. Not sure if you have Ikea stores in the States? - but I got two sets of drawers from them when I first started cardmaking, and you may be able to find something similar. The larger drawers hold A4-sized papers, and you can get them with large or a combination of small/large drawers, costing aroung 8 each. They're made of wood so can be painted, varnished or left ""as is", they sit to the left of my desk and hold everything - tapes, glues, scissors, rulers etc etc, so all I have to do is swivel round and help myself from a drawer - no more mess all over my desk. They're the best storage I've ever bought!
I just have some of the rolling carts and some paper drawers and some of the little stacking mini drawers from walmart. You know, the white plastic with the clear drawers in them. I keep *similar* items in 1 drawer and keep it by my workspace. Like 1 drawer is adhesives and its to my right under a folding table that I stamp on and so I can just open the drawer and grab the glue I need, or my roll of sticky strip, or my dimensionals, or whatever. I have a drawer that has my CM cutting system in it. I have a drawer that has my embossing tool and SU tool kit in it...things that I dont use all the time go in this drawer. Its a little further away from me. I have in my mini drawers that sit out on my desk things like scissors (all the scissors are in 1 drawer so I know where they are...ribbon scissors, paper snips, guest's scissors, etc.) All embossing powders in another, along with some little ice cream sample plastic spoons. All glitters in another along with the more spoons and my embossing buddy. And etc, etc, etc.
I think the MAIN THING that makes me happy is that because I am a consumer (and need to be more of a user! LOL) and have lots of stuff if that I make labels of the contents of each drawer and put them on the outside of each drawer. That makes it so much easier for me to grab what I want, and it makes it so much easier for me to put things up when I am done. I have to think alot less because its written right in front of me!
You know, I'm seriously considering rolling carts in my living room closet. Between those and a nice basket for the "use it every time or almost every time you touch ink" stuff, I could easily stamp in bliss.
I am finding that since I don't have a scraproom or studio...I have a cute little pail with a handle that I got at the dollar store...I'm storing all my tools (crop-a-dial, bone folder...etc.) and necessities (adhesive, inks) in it....then I can grab it and work at the kitchen table, or in the living room. I also have one with mod-podge, adhesives...etc. I will probably have others by the time I'm done reorganizing everything. I use baskets from the dollar store too.
I also tend to craft a lot by holiday.....so I'm storing items that way too. If I need Christmas stuff I can just grab that drawer or basket with Christmas embellishments and get busy!!
I also got one of the big scrapbook suitcase type things that has wheels. I keep my paper trimmer, my heat gun, letter stickers...etc. I can wheel it to the kitchen or the livingroom and it looks better than just having a stack of stuff stacked everywhere!! I also got a fishing tackle box to hold lots of little embellishments...brads, gem stones that I use often and put in there too.
It's taking some time getting everything together like I want, but in the future I think it will save me a lot of time!! I hate having to search for things!!
ETA~ I also use the 3 drawer rolling carts to store stuff in. They work great and aren't too expensive.
Acrylic blocks in the sizes I use most (all of my stamps are unmounted/clear)
Foam tape (instead of dimensionals)
Adhesive runner
Mat pack
Small, sharp scissors
All-purpose scissors
Cutter Bee tweezers
Small guillotine paper cutter (5" x 7")
Bow Easy
These things (except the quillotine cutter) stay in a little basket from Dollar Tree. Other often-used items like my heat gun and ScorPal and Cuttlebug are on the shelf nearest my work area, so I can grab and use them quickly. To be honest, nothing in my room is very far from the work area, mostly because it's a big table right smack in the middle of the room with access on all four sides...
I had a little suitcase that I bought at a gift shop... small, acrylic handle, cool paper on the side... I filled it with stuff and man it was so easy to clean up after making le cards!

Love your space! I like that you have a clock on the wall. i don't have one in my space and I tend to lose track of time while creating.....especially not good when I have to get up early for work the next morning.
Hello fellow artists,
I am in a time crunch, and this has nothing to to with this particular thread, but I am hoping someone can help. Has anyone ever used a fogger in their craft room. My craft area is in the open, and I am fogging the front half of the house, but I am not about to move all of my things. Does anyone know if it will affect my cardstock and patterned papers. HELP! Thanks in advance.
You want to cover them with plastic trash bags. It WILL get stuff on them. While you can easily wipe it off a punch, it'll probably stain or leave a film on paper.
