Does anyone else have hundreds of templates ??? box, shoes, stockings, purses? I have hundreds printed out and alot here in my downloads on my computer. I have a filing system in two filing cabinets but they just get lost in the Templates folder. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much
I have mine printed out, in binders, divided by type of template.
But I don't have hundreds! ;)
You might try sorting by type...
Boxes, open top
Boxes, with flap
Boxes, with decorative top
Boxes, pillow
shoes
ornaments
door hangers
bag toppers
envelopes
treat holders
purses
and so on...
Then you would only have to look through a folder, not a lot larger pile, to find what you are looking for.
Filing such as fionna51 described and if you are able to create a page with a small pic of each template and place it at the beginning of each file or in each section of a notebook so at a glance you may choose the template you want. It is time consuming but such a great way to file at a glance.

I used to have mine in a "templates" file folder, too, but it took too long to find one when I needed it. So I got a 3" 3-ring binder on clearance at an office supply store. Also invested in a box of sheet protectors (the kind that are like a pocket, closed on 3 sides with the opening at the top) and use one for each template. With the sheet protector I am able to include the template, printed instructions and even a sample. I made dividers for the binder and sorted them in categories (like fionna51 suggested). I used a file folder label to write the name of the template and put that on the outside of the sheet protector in the top right corner, making it easy to flip through the binder to find what I need. It has worked great for me!
I print mine out, then they are not taking up the room on my computer, then into a Duotang, no order, I like to just flip through then come across something.
Target sells this wire mesh storage item that is a small drawer at the top and a large hanging file size drawer on the bottom. It is on casters and runs about $40.00. I file all my templates and directions in hanging folders in the bottom drawer....I have files labeled for each Season and then files for items that could be any season sorted by terms like boxes with lids, card set storage etc. and some I have filed in both places.....duplicated directions(which I label so I return them to the correct file). I keep spools of ribbon in the top drawer(usually spools that are duplicates of what is in my ribbon organizer). and on the top I stack either photo boxes of cards sorted by occasion with envelopes or the plastic trays from Target's cube storage system where I have project prep materials organized. My house is in the country sandwiched between a hay grinding operation directly across the highway and alfalfa fields to the south and wheat/corn fields to the north so dust is a huge problem(never any open windows at my house) and I try to keep all papers and ribbons inside something.
