HOORAY!! I started with an entire bookshelf overflowing with wood mounted sets and now I have all the sets on ONE shelf! It is AWESOME!! I am using three plastic ITSO bins from Target to store 18 boxes in each and all three bins fit on the top shelf of the bookshelf - leaving me with several EMPTY shelves! How great is that!!
Thanks for all who gave me great hints and encouragement as I peeled, stuck, indexed and labeled all these gosh darn stamps LOL!~
Way to go!!! I am doing the happy dance for you. I finished 6-8 months ago and was sooooo happy I took the time to do that. I have so much more room and I also use stamps I had forgotten about. With the extra room I had, I was able to re-organize my other supplies which makes using them so much easier.
Congratulations. I am so jealous. I still have over 100 SU sets to unmount in addition to several individual stamps. Show us a picture of those Target bins with your stamps inside. I might "need" some.
Great Job! Never Un-Mounted before, is it fun? (I'm guessing it isn't)
If you had been around when I was in the midst of it and heard me complaining, you would think it was the worst job in the world. Really, though, it went much faster and more smoothly than I anticipated. If you read the threads on unmounting, you learn the tricks. Like microwaving the stamps to soften the adhesive. Put all the stamps on a big block to stamp index sheets. Clean the stamps with the swipe of a baby wipe instead of trying to clean them on your stamp cleaner pad thingy...

Thanks Cindy! I am thrilled also! And I reacquainted myself with my stamps LOL! So many great sets that weren't getting used because I just couldn't see them....
You have inspired me!
I don't have a lot of mounted stamps. I store mine loose in a couple of photo boxes. I rarely use them because they aren't organized. Unmounting and putting them in a folder or CD case would make them more portable and much more accessible.

Here are the bins I'm using. I bought them at Target in the section where they sell the itsy storage cubes. I included a photo of the label also.
The bookcase was FILLED and OVERFLOWING with wood mount SU stamp sets. And I mean overflowing -- they were on the floor, piled on top - it was ridiculous. And made it much to obvious too my dh that I have a ton of stamps - making it hard to justify future purchases LOL!
This is not my original idea - another stamper on SCS used these bins. That's where I got the idea. I'm sorry I don't remember who it was to give them credit - if you are out there, please chime in.
I'm loving the bins. There are up to 19 dvd cases in each. They are super easy to pull out and file through. At first, I didn't think I would like them - I wanted the sets on shelf like a book so I could read the spines. It just wasted so much space that way. It took up two full shelves - this way makes more sense for me.
By the way, in these three bins, there are almost 100 sets. I do the happy dance each time I walk into my studio LOL!
Congratulations! Are you getting rid of your wood blocks? I'm interested if you are
Not to hijack, but SKICIO, what are you doing with the blocks?

Which method are you using for unmounted; easy mount, tack it or just rubber??
I am on the fence about it and have been trying my hand at the different methods and am curious what other think.
I am almost done with my unmounting and am loving the extra space it gives me!! I've not had any trouble peeling the rubber and foam off the blocks and have not had to use the microwave to loosen. Alene's tack-it-over is great! Why I didn't do this sooner I'll never know!
I'm a newbie and I'm wondering why you are unmounting your block stamps? How will you use your stamps if they are not mounted??
Hi -- if you read the "I need an unmounting pep talk" thread , you'll get some ideas of different ways people are using their unmounted stamps. I did it to save space and make my stamp collection more accessible. Since I had over 70 sets of stamps that were piled all over the place, it was hard to find things LOL!

I peeled my stamps and sticker from the block, applied the sticker to the back of the stamp, and put Aleene's take it over and over glue on. I love it!
Thanks that is what I started to do. I guess I will continue on my Mt Everest size unmounting task. I have 300+/- set to unmount.
TY
I am probably close to that number...so far have unmounted about 100 sets. I have mine down to the bare rubber and by set in a baggie with the images copied onto paper for now. Haven't decided what I am doing from there.
You are my hero!! I have been trying to get up my mojo to tackle this project with my stamps. I just need to jump into it & know I will be so happy and organized once I am done.
I haven't started unmounting yet, but am gearing up for it! I've looked at DVD cases, an d am wondering, does one take out the insert that holds the DVD ?
Congrats to you! Its such a great feeling to have all your stamps in one place and its such a space saver too, having them unmounted. I did mine last year and i have never regretted it.
I use those ITSO clear bins too! Love them.....i have my spools of twine in them at the moment.
I'm in the process of unmounting my sets. I've found using the microwave makes it much easier to remove the rubber (not that you can't without the microwave - I just find it easier). I can't seems to find the Aileens Tack stuff at my local Michaels so I'm using Tombo Liquid. I'm also putting the sets into the cotainers SU sells. Mine are just going on a bookshelf for now with the spine out so I can read the label. I think I'm about halfway through my project and need to order more storage containers but I guess I could unmount but still keep them in the SU clamshell for now so they are ready for the containers later. I won't be doing a SU order until SAB starts.

I found that cling stamps don't stick to regular DVD cases so I bought the SU! or Amuse cases and they work MUCH better with cling stamps. For the regular DVD cases some clear stamps will stick to them. I have used glue dots to stick the clear sheet that comes with some stamps (with the stamps on it) to the inside of the DVD cases. I have clipped out the prong part of the insert of the regular cases that I have and put stamps in and around that insert or I just put small sets on the flat side of the regular cases. LOVE the DVD cases SO much better than CD cases!

Thank You for your reply. I've got close to 200 sets to change over, I just ordered Ammiki ez mount cling foam sheets and thought if I bought DVD cases in bulk from someplace, I could do this a little more economically than by buying from SU (I'm pretty much an SU snob, but in this case, I thought I could cut down on expenses.) What do you mean, "cling stamps" . Maybe I need to wait until I recieve my first SU clear mount set, next week, before I do anything. A ,visual' might work better for me I've already rec. my full set of SU acrylic blocks. I'm laying awake nights thinking @ this process. I've npbeen reading as much as I can about it, but still a little confused!
