PS good luck to all who have entered.
(at least I have a bit more than 1000sq ft in my house, I could put this in my kitchen!)
scarecrow (me)
I would wile away the hours
mounting pretties flowers
picking glitter off my socks
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a SCRAPBOX
I'd be able to find my camera
For scrappin mi familia
In cuteness or in flux
(Dorothy)
With the pages you'd be makin'
You could be always creatin'
If you only had a SCRAPBOX
(Scarecrow)
Oh, I would make a card
Sympathy, Get Well and more
I could think of cards I never made before
And then I'd sit and make some more
I would not be just a nuffin'
My closets all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of rocks
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a SCRAPBOX
(and a cut verse because it made the dance too long in the movie ....)
Gosh, it would be pleasin'
To create every season
pages and cards that flummox
And perhaps I'll deserve ya
And be worthy erve ya
If I only had a SCRAPBOX!
(with a tip of my pointed scarecrow hat and a wave of my SCRAPBOX picture I BUMP!)
This is totally BRILLIANT!! The Wizard of Oz is my FAVE (I AM, after all, the Wicked Witch of the West!)!! You should win just because of this clever poem/song!! And it sounds like you need it, anyway!!
Thanks for the BUMP explanation. I guess this is a free bump for you! You can have all the bumps you want... I get the cabinet. MUAAA-AAAA (By the way, is there a specific way to spell the evil laugh?)
Gosh, I've been off the forum for a couple of days, my son had surgery. Tonight I needed my Classy Brass Template ... I was shocked at how long it took me to find this little dickens! I remember thinking, this is a good place for it, then promptly forgetting where that great place was. Honestly, I organize, shift stuff and reorganize in the attempt to make it all accessible. I finally found it ... not with the piercing kit, not with the embossing kit, but with the stamp a ma jig. Now WHAT pray tell, is that all about? Thin flat things filed together? Sheesh! At any rate, thought I'd check in and bump my thread up.
On a very sober note ... you all made a very stressful week a lot of fun! I loved hopping on SCS to rant and rave when I really felt like ranting and raving (in a not so funny way) at the world. Thanks for that my stampin' gal pals.
Now, off to laminate my pic of the scrapbox!!
<grin>
I see BUMP all over these forums. I don't know what that means in your post.
I know what it means in my craft room though. It means you tried to turn around and you BUMPED into 4 things, knocked over 3 things, and spilled 2 jars. Not to mention that when I bend over to correct any of these mishaps, my large uhm... rear BUMPer knocks something else over.
This is honestly a typical day attempting to gather supplies from my craft room.
Hey well at least you have can bend over in your craft room. Not like myself who doesn't have any bending room. Sometimes when I sit down I kind of lose balance and land on something like my travel bag or the file safe near by. OUCH!! I can't tell how many times I have had an avalanche of Stamp pads or Stamps. And those little white shelves I have in the corner are very unstable they have actually fallen many times but luckily I have caught them.
Thank goodness the Scrapbox is very stable and won't fall over for me to catch. I need the Scrapbox more than you do and so will take it for you. Because I would be really worried you would BUMP yourself reaching under the fold out table and get hurt.
Love the rendition of "If I only had a (Brain) ScrapBox!" Absolutely creative and fun!! Megapoints in my book...plus your gallery is delightful! Good luck!!!

each evil laugh "emitter" has their own spelling in my book! I knew exactly what you meant! (this is such a kick, isn't it?)

- How often would you anticipate needing to close it all up so it would be tucked away and out of sight?
- What would your approach be for keeping the work area uncluttered so you'd continuously have open crafting/work space?
- What else would you do to the area you'd place it in to augment it (since our craft supplies exceed our capacity to store them, WorkBox or not! - LOL!)?
- Based on the photos of it, what if your favorite nook or cranny in it?
I'm going to give you a bump. I haven't seen any of your humor on here and just a little concerned. I know you said your son had surgery, everything OK?

Thank you fellow traveler! First week post op went well if not hectic! My son caught a virus the day after surgery so we've spent the week fighting that. He's still running a temp but all else seems to be going well so I'm ready to jump back on the boards and pepper everyone with my wild words and whimsical wanderings.
Thanks so much for your concern. SCS and the people on it are "TOTALLY AWESOME" to quote the little kid on a trike in the "Incredibles" movie, another one of my favs!

"You're no bunny till "thumbunny" loves you ..." how many times have you heard that one?
I'll answer your questions in the order you asked them.
Honestly, I'd close it up during work hours and open the station in all it's splendor during the evenings and weekends. I'd also deliberately forget to take out an item for my clubs just so I could open it and reveal the hidden treasures. I actually shivered when I said that!! Or ask a clubbie "Would you mind getting the crop-o-dile out of my Scrapbox please?" When they said, "Scrapbox, what's a scrapbox?" I would make a fuss and do the Vanna White pose as i opened doors as though I were wearing a size 6 and turning those famous letters. I'd listen for the vowels .... ooooohhh, aaaahhhhh. As far as the work surface, I work from my home so I'm used to keeping a clean work surface. I can't really work any other way.
I'm actually fairly decent at hiding clutter. I have a couple of problems. All my small items are in different areas, rather than one centralized location. With smaller items that's a real problem. Then, when items are put away, nothing is accessible. It's merely stacked on shelves or put away in boxes. I'm hoping the "Scrap-box-a-palozza" would be a place for all my accessories and tools. As soon as all the nooks and crannies are filled (and labeled in a stamporific way) I'd have to get busy using the supplies to make room if I needed it! I'd donate more cards to the elderly (I teach stamping to a group of 80 year olds each month) and they'd love to have more cards!!
My favorite nook or cranny??????? That's like asking which child is my favorite!! Each little nook or cranny would have a specific, special and spendiferous function with matching label. The desk would be polished to a high sheen and I'd probably die cut daisy flowers with my Big Shot so I could display a artsy and appropriate bouquet on it.
To mix all my literary metaphors ... "OOHHHH the thinks I could think!!" Ted Geissel.
I have to admit, though, I'd probably feel very creative and settled. It would be hard to close it up each night when I went to bed. The AWESOME thing is that on the weekend, I wouldn't have to!! i could leave my project right where it is and continue the next day! No moving a half finished project to serve dinner.
I guess you could say ... it had me at hello!
Boy, now THAT'S a serious post! WOW!

Waiiiiiittt... I think that kid said "Totally WICKED!" which ties in with the wicked witch, the wizard of OZ and one of your earlier posts! You gotta love word synchronicity!!!
Just bumping to keep it all fresh! I feel like we're nearing the Emerald City (Funny that SCS is based there!) Soon the finalists will be chosen and those 10 lucky ladies will need to get out the bugspray and butterfly net as they go after that elusive scrapbox. I watched the video again last night. I kept thinking of the ease of grabbing a velcroed pouch from my scrapbox and putting it in my hostess bag with the projects as I head out to do a workshop or club. How easy and organized is that??
Wish i had pics ... found the camera but I'd only be taking photos of shoe boxes and drawers etc. I can guar-on-tee (anyone remember the cajun chef?) photos of my new Scrapbox. <grin>
(wistfully staring at computer and sighing deeply) " ... If I only had a scrapbox...."
running softly through my head.
Good luck to everyone. As my father used to say ... "Que Sera, Serip ... whatever will run, will drip. The future's not ours, we quip. Que Sera, Serip" Come onnnnnnnn, scrapbox, baby needs a new pair of shoes ... oops, I mean a new workspace.

Dangling by a thread,

I had no idea about your son, I do pray he will continue to improve greatly.
YES!! I remember the cajun chef!! Justin (Jus-tone and his ON-YONES)! Wasn't he funny!
Share with us:
(1) why you craft
(2) what you do with your completed handcrafted projects, and
(3) what the biggest impact any of your projects has had on you, someone else, or the world at large!
Boy, why I craft. I started stamping and making cards as a hobby I could do at home. My son has multiple disabilities and it enabled me to have something enjoyable to do when i wasn't getting out much for other types of hobbies.
Then I started a card ministry at church. I began to make cards and send them to people in the hospital, taking time to pray and put that prayer in writing. Sometimes when I'd see some of the older folks who'd received cards when they returned to church they'd tell me it was the only card they'd received and it meant a lot to them. one 85 year old gentleman insisted on helping me on with my coat each Sunday after he returned to church.
I decided to demo to get out of the house once in a while for 'workshops' and to invite gal pals into my home to stamp. It took off and I ended up with multiple clubs. The offshoot is that my son decided he wanted to stamp and has made social connections because of having the same hobby as others. In fact, my upline is now also the stand-by guardian for my son should anything ever happen to me.
For me, I now craft because I love it, it encourages me to reach out and comfort others, it sometimes gets me out of the house (since I work out of the house too,its important to get out and see other peeps!) and helps my son make connections.
How do I use my creations? As mentioned before, I have a card ministry at church for those hospitalized or in need. I keep track so that I can follow up appropriately "So sorry you're back in the hospital so soon" and the like. Sometimes I tease them a little "hey, the foods not that great!" I also conduct/teach a group of 80 year old ladies (up to 12-15 gals) every month. Many have never stamped before. We make 3 cards, I give them envelopes and I've also given them each a little packet with an incentive stamp that has "hand stamped by.." etc on the back. All the little stamps are different and they got to choose their own. I LOVE working with them! I feel so honored to be a part of their lives. They come in with walkers and hearing aids squalking (my son is hard of hearing so I end up fixing hearing aids as well!) they bring their little cello bags with their back-of-the-card stamp and nearly every project we've made to date bulging out of their bags. They laugh, they talk, they oohhh, they ahhh, they mess up because they can't see or are shakey, they wreck equipment. It's up to me to giggle with them, peel the mistake off and get them ready to try again or help them with the actual stamping so they leave with cards they're proud of. I don't bring catalogs or order forms. I'm not there to sell anything. They can donate if they like but no fee is required. Most slip me a dollar or two at the end of class to help with materials. (I'm saving that money for Christmas presents for them) I start at 10:30 and we have to be done by 11:45 so they can get good seats in the lunch room. it's one of the highlights of my month.
I donate cards to the older folks and my own hospital ministry. I donate thank you notes to people who are grieving and don't have time or the energy to shop for that kind of stuff. (sometimes they want a little more personal touch than the ones from the funeral home). I've also donated to the prayer shawl minstry at a friends church. I make gifts for friends and family using the Big Shot usually and hold hostess appreciation parties with tons of freebies.
The biggest impact ... wow. hard to say. Two of the sympathy cards I've written to people who have lost children (one with disabilities and one by suicide) were used as eulogies at their respective funeral services. it blew me away. Again, I felt so very very honored that my simple gesture could give such comfort. I also made Christmas cards for a grandmother who was present when her grandson shot himself. She wasn't going to send any out because all the ones in thestore were so glitzy and cluttered. I stamped a simple snowflake in silver on white cardstock and stamped "peaceful wishes" on the inside. It met her restorative needs and she took hope in sending them out she told me later.
I never expected all the wonderful connections, relationships and communities that crafting has made me a part of. Crafting, for me cardmaking in particular, has opened my eyes and my heart to everyone around me. I know that sounds all saccharin and drippy but its sooooo true. Selfishly, when it's -20 degrees outside and the wind is blowing it's such a great feeling to settle in with a hobby and watch my son enjoy himself too!
Thanks for giving me the chance to play and possibly win the mighty Scrapbox! I've had such a good time razzing people good-naturedly and would be happy to throw in another OZ song if need be!!!
Thanks Original Scrapbox and SCS for hosting! What a gas!
Karen
okay. I know the judges have already closed and probably chosen the TOP 10! However, I just COULDN'T resist adding another verse ... this one is the "If I only had a heart..." <grin> I know ... sometimes I'm the only one who laughs at my jokes. Love you all!!

When a woman's an empty kettle
She should be on her mettle
Stampin’ with her wooden blocks
I know I’d be creatin’
Better cards that I am makin’
If I only had a SCRAPBOX
I'd be tender, I'd be gentle
And awful sentimental
Guardin’ memories like Ft. Knox
I'd be tapin’ and a scrappin’
Inkin’ up, I’d be a tappin’
If I only had a SCRAPBOX
Picture me a desk so free
working on my stamping style
(Snow White)
Wherefore art thou, crop-o-dile?
(Tin Man)
And there it is, how versa-tile!
Just to find a brad or button, ribbon or a notion
I’d sit and kick off Crocs
I could stay young and chipper
And I'd close it with a whisper
If I only had a SCRAPBOX
You are an excellent wtiter Karen, you have a real voice that comes through. Hugs to you and your sone and I hope he is doing so much better. Just stopped in to say: Congratulations on making the top 10! Woohoo! Good luck to you!!!
I can't give you the Scrapbox, but I can give you Free Registration to the Friendship Shoebox Swap in April of 2010! The exact day is not set yet but we have narrowed it down to the end of April or very begining of May. We know that it will be on a Saturday and most likely at the Emanuel Lutheran Church (unless someone needs it for a Reception).
Eau Claire is not that far from us. Based on what I've read you would fit right in with the wonderful ladies that come to stamp. Plus there are LOTS of great prizes.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm pretty blown away that I got this far. So many worthy women. I wish we could all win.

Good Luck,

ooohhh this sounds right up my alley (or yellow brick road!) Keep me posted and I'll see if we can make it work! Don't you LOVE the connections we all make? What a blessing!
Karen Jo,
Congrats on making it to the final 10! I was so thrilled when I found out that I was in the final 10, too. (and I appreciated your good wishes).
I can so relate to your story of storing your craft stuff in the closet and having to stop to run to the closet to retrieve some item in the middle of your project!
If you win, please be sure to share pics of the Workbox in your home so we can all enjoy it through you!
Best wishes,
SammyKu
