Default Evernote vs AirTable

I am ready to get started with an electronic inventory for my stamps, etc. I’ve read some of the prior threads and watched a few videos...now I am overwhelmed!Any input, especially if you’ve tried both, is greatly appreciated. I am not a digital whiz😬

I like AirTable.  I'm not caught up with it, since I've been working on other projects, but it is easy-peasy to use.

Another vote for AirTable. It's much easier (and faster) than Evernote, as well as more customizable - at least, in my opinion...

Lydia (UnderstandBlue) did an excellent video on it:

I haven't tried Airtable (yet), but I thought I should speak up, since I have been a vocal Evernote fan.

Evernote recently made some BIG changes... and they are not good.  Long-time users are ready to give it up, myself included.  I don't recommend it at all anymore.  It's truly unreal what a mess they've made with it.  Very sad.

I would love to hear from anyone who has used both Evernote and Airtable.  It looks like Airtable would be awesome for a stamp inventory... but I'm not sure how it would be for "everything else".  (I've been using Evernote to pretty much track my whole life.  I have no idea how I'm going to find the time to switch, but I think I have to.)

I've used both and, although I've only used them for stamping supplies, I still think that AirTable would work for you. It is TOTALLY customizable, so you can put in any/all information that you want. The only drawback that i could see for you is that you may have too much information to qualify for the free version. Still, I believe there are size limits on Evernote's free version, as well, so it may be fairly equal. Watch Lydia's video and snoop around the website and see what you think...

Thank you. I have watched MANY videos and read many threads. This community is generous with their time and knowledge.

I am leaning towards AirTable. I am proficient with spreadsheets and the speed of input looks good. If I reach the limit for the free version, I will take this as a sign it’s time to purge!

Thanks Sue.  I'm going to give it a try.  You're probably right about my having too much information, but I've been paying for Evernote.  If I decide Airtable is better, I'll be willing to get the paid version of it, instead.  But I'll definitely spend some time with it first.

Is the data stored on Evernote transferrable to AirTable?

There are four options listed for importing but I am only familiar with the Excel option. They do give you access to a personal support, but I didn’t need it and cannot comment.
I spent a few hours yesterday and I am so far along. The time consuming part is the images. I had trouble figuring it out... and then I noticed the search feature within the program. I wasted time trying to copy images and couldn’t get that to work.
I am super pleased with the decision to go with AirTable. It’s been easy for me to set-up and the input is a breeze.

I use AirTable for all of my inks, dies, punches, stamp, etc. Also using it to keep track of series of books I have read/purchased.

I’ve been using Airtable for about 8-9 months and love it. VERY easy to use (and I’m NOT tech-y). Super simple to set up and to add records to it.

I have a question. I have been using evernote for some number of years now. (Its a huge thing for me) and I have multiple photographs in each "note" of a stamp set for example, it starts with a photograph of the stamp set itself. and over time I started adding other photos to the notes so, a stamp set I use often may have 3 or 4 photos of projects created over time with that set.

lately I have had this thing where my credit card where evenote bills to needs updated. I had one response from them and then I replied. ( I get a spinning wheel of death on that page of theirs) but, I can see every other single thing in the site. ( I guess they want me to upgrade to something that would cost at least 4 times more than what I am paying)

so, I had a response to log out and re log in, that did not fix the problem and to send them a screen shot, and I did so, today I got a canned response that wanted to know when I was going to reply. yeah,

and I remembered that Lydia had airtable and all you air table people are so happy with it, so I have this basic 14 day thing. what I want to know is. ( can I put multiple photographs inside a field or tab or what not I don't remember what its called looks like a cell on a Excel sheet space to me kwim?)
so, the question I have is, what size program do I need? and can I put more than one photo on it? buying a larger thing is not really an issue but, I do want to do something similar to what I have as I am very visual with photographs, main thing here is to hunt down sentiments and or mfg info of said stamps for uploading.

Oh I do have one more question. I don't actually sell my old things, so if you all are using the copy image link off the MFG sits for current products, what happens to your photographs when the MFG retires it?

( With my older pinterest boards, I had saved some things that I liked how they looked visually and that had come from stores, when those stores stopped selling said item the photo goes POOF off pinterest.)

will that happen to photos saved that way inside Airtable?

in case anyone is curious you can put multiple photos into a cell, and you can open that up and see the whole thing much larger than the skinny spread sheet view. ( which is a relief ) however, I do not know if the photos off the web go poof thing as of yet, so one thing I have found is.
It does not let me copy and paste anything to those cells. everything has to be typed and or the photo has to be moved to a location on the computer for the browse for the photo feature to upload it there to work.
I also have not tried to import anything from evernote as I think I like the idea of breaking it down a little more.
A section for wood mounted stamps, a section for cling mounted rubber stamps etc, a section for clear stamps. If I break them up this way I should fit into the size limits?

So, just for laughs I started an airtable... ( I have so much stuff re entering everything would be a full time job I think)

and I was able to update the payment inside evernote by using a different browser. for fun stuff I use firefox and it would not load that page. the thing is the plan I have with Evernote is more than big enough for what I do, I never use up the amounts during the month. and it does say on their site that you can keep your current plan ( as long as you pay for it) without having to "upgrade" . I figured I would share this in case it is happening to someone else.

I think I am going to have to play with airtable more to see if is something I want to move to.

Glad you got your issue resolved with payment for Evernote. I've encountered browser conflicts before and it's frustrating because it's never the first thing I think of when trying to fix a problem. By the way, I have the basic paid version of Evernote and I like it. It does what I need and I did not find it too difficult to learn. So far I have not been tempted to change since I have so much of my stuff entered already. It seems to me most any program that provides a "free" version make it real basic so you will want to upgrade to a paid version once you get going with it. Can't say as I blame them since at the end of the day we all want to make money off our efforts, don't we?

Bringing up an old thread here.
I can no longer deal with Evernote. I am fed up with how bug-gy it has become. On my phone (I-Phone 12) I constantly deal with the "spinning wheel of death" and simply can't deal with the frustration any more. I am thinking of trying airtable but 1) it looks complicated 2) I am so NOT-techy and 3) will I need to enter all my info again or is there an easier way?
I am going to check out Lydia's You Tube about it but I would love to hear what any of you can offer.

Have you considered Color My Life? It's a mobile app plus the web version was just released. Full disclosure: my husband and I developed the app. It is specifically for paper crafting with a barcode scanning option for products in the database. We do rely on companies to provide their product catalog and have many of the popular companies included: Gina K, Taylored Expressions, Catherine Pooler, Honey Bee Stamps, MFT, to name a few. Even without scanning, it's quite easy to add items, equivalent to Airtable and Evernote. We don't have an import option yet, but we are working through the design, now that the web version has been released. There is a 30 day free trial and after that it's $1.49/month or $14.99/year. I know a lot of people don't like to pay for apps like this, but subscription fees cover the infrastructure costs and we personally fund development.

I have no issue paying for apps but you did not list StampinUp in your product catalog list. Most of my stamps are StampinUp. Is that in the bar code scanner option?

We've sent many emails to SU requesting their catalog, but never received a reply. At the moment we have 7,000+ SU products in the barcode catalog, however I manually compiled retired lists I found on the internet to load into our database. I should also note that there are no images with these products because they are copyrighted.

Hi, I've been using Airtable for two years now and the only limitation I have experienced is that you are limited in the number of attachments you can have per base. I photograph all my stamp sets (stored as attachments in Airtable) and the free version limits how many I can have in each category (base). In all other aspects it has been a great format. Easy to use and easy to search.

I have been using Evernote for years and for the most part pleased, although a few glitches such as with search when not connected to internet doesn’t work that great. I do have a paid version.
curious with Airtable
-can you download files to be able to use without internet?
- can you copy and paste info? ( I am not a typist) or dictate to program
- if you enter info on one device is it accessible without internet and via iPhone and iPad and computer all 3 platforms or can you only have it on one?

I tried Airtable last week, and I found it complicated and confusing. I guess I would have to take the time to learn it. Evernote is so much easier, and I don't need all the options that Airtable has. My storage is simple and easy, so I'm sticking with Evernote for now.

Update for my journey: I am steady entering my stamps sets, dies, punches, and embossing folders into Airtable. It is going to be a long process but I am already impressed.
Some things I love: I don't think I will ever need to pay for Airtable. I ended up paying for Evernote because I hit my monthly upload limit pretty quickly. I also love how I can link the matching dies, punches, etc to the stamp set. And I LOVE how customizable it is! I spent a lot of time changing my notes from Evernote to suit my needs. Airtable is customizable from the start!
Some things I don't love: I am doing a lot of typing. I wish there was a way to import from Evernote to Airtable. Then again, I have found lots of errors in my notes already. Might be better to put them in myself.
I watched several videos before starting this project. Every one indicated how I would be glad to have sentiments and images in airtable. I am attempting to do a good job at that!

-can you download files to be able to use without internet? haven't tried this... but I have printed out a section from my PC
- can you copy and paste info? ( I am not a typist) or dictate to program yes you can copy and paste. never tried dictating. You can grab & drag fill Like Excel - I love that for duplicated info like when I am entring several sets from the same co for that cell I can fill them all at once
- if you enter info on one device is it accessible without internet and via iPhone and iPad and computer all 3 platforms or can you only have it on one?
you access your file by loggin in, so it's the same file when you open on PC or your phone ( there is an app. I have android but pretty sure there is an i-one)

Default LOVE AirTable!

I have not used Evernote. But I’ve been working on cataloging everything in AirTable and agree it’s the bomb! I have a base for stamps & dies, one for Copics, one for inks, one for the storage locations of various craft supplies I’ve squirreled away (so I can quit driving myself crazy trying to finds things), and even started converting my Excel list of “Techniques to try” because I love the ability to put in key words (eg, ink blending, gel press…) and later be able to filter on those. I find it very easy to use and especially like all the choices for field types - checkbox, multi-choice, text, hyperlink, image etc. And the iPhone app works well so I can quickly check something without pulling out the laptop.

I am finding that I can usually left-click on an image to copy and then paste it into the image field. But hope none go “poof” when product is discontinued! Not sure how to test that.

Many years ago, I tried Evernote and was totally frustrated with it. I discovered the Krafts Inventory app--a one-time purchase of $4.99. It allows me to create folders/tables/pictures as I want to catalog my craft items. And if you have a large collection, it will take time to record--as with any of the options. I am comfortable with this and will not change, unless forced by it becoming obsolete. One further note--it was originally only for Apple iOS--didn't include Android.

I'm ready to go digital as well. Please share how it is going & I will do the same. Right now I have an Excel spreadsheet list of SU stamp sets & what size box they are in (1-5). My stamps are old & almost all are the red rubber type. I took a 12 year hiatus from crafting.

I'm still using AirTable and loving it. I haven't bought a duplicate since using it.
You can add a spot to track the size of the box.

I've been using airtable for 3 years and I still love it. I’ll be adding more bases for other supplies.

Evernote is excellent for straightforward note-taking and organizing your notes into notebooks. It's user-friendly and great if your main goal is to jot down details about your stamps.
