I actually need to be OCD with my organization because I have a ton of stamps. Last year, I got all my stamps out and inked them one by one with black ink and catagorized them by themes (ie birthday, christmas, nature, flowers, people, etc.). I also wrote on the side of each block a letter and a number. The letter corresponds with where they are located in my stamping organizers and the number corresponds to the location as well. For example, if I need a stamp that is B3, I go the B section and look at the top for the 3rd stamp. I also wrote the corresponding letter/number below the stamped image in my binder. This has helped me SO much because I know to make xmas cards, all of my xmas stamps are in the book, I can pick which ones to use without digging and easily find them when I figure out which ones to use.
It also makes it easy for shopping. I just take the binder with me and no duplicates! I also have a section for ribbon and markers. They aren't anything fancy, just stamped on white paper with the theme at the top and placed in sheet protectors.

"Last year, I got all my stamps out and inked them one by one with black ink and catagorized them by themes (ie birthday, christmas, nature, flowers, people, etc.)"
I just thought of doing this....just told my hubby this week-end. How does it work for you? Sounds like great organization! :p
I found someone who sells the complete SU stamp list starting in 1996 or 97, she also has a color list and a punch list punched out. She sells the list for $9.95 and sells the punch list also. Don't know if you want to pay anything but here is her link. I bought the SU list this morning but haven't recieved it yet. She's probably not home at the moment. Will let you know if it's worth it.
I was thinking of stamping the images, too, and maybe putting them in a binder by title of stamp. I have a lot of SU wood stamps. Also you could take an old catalog and cut out the picture and glue them to cardstock to make the binder list.
I have a 3 ring binder with tabs (holiday, saying, birthday, etc) and then I stamp each image on cardstock unless I purchase SU stamps and then I just scan the artist cling before applying them to the stamps. These are then glue into my notebook. I would also encourage you to include the price you purchase the stamp set. Having this information will be helpful when you go to resale the stamps. The stamps themselves are placed in binds which correspond to the tabs. I really like this method because I can flip through my notebook and see what I have and then also see the size before I go searching for the actual stamp in the bins.

The person who sells the SU inventory list and has the punches is Cat. I just got the SU list and it's amazing! It has stamps from 1997 until present. You can tell it was a lot of work. Worth every penny! I'm waiting on her punch pal too which she is updating. Can't wait! The SU list does not have the stamped images. She is also on SCS.
What I did with my punches was punch out the shape using black cardstock (used signo white pen to write down the size...I used black cuz I had lots of black cardstock and it stood out on my pages which are white). Adhered them to a notebook that was divided into different categories/companies: circles, squares, christmas, Martha Stewart, SU, vday, easter, flowers, etc. You can buy removable tabs like these:
With my stamps, I created a table in Word with 3-4 columns (name of stamp, item number, image). I took a print screen shot of the stamp, used Microsoft paint to cut out the image and pasted the image into the column for images. Make sense?
Of course, this takes a lot of time....especially when you have lots and lots of stamps, so I have only just begun to keep an inventory. I keep a different word doc for each different company.
I attached a sample so you can see what I just described
Thanks Brenda! I was going to sit down and start this on the weekend but, you have saved me a lot of trouble.
I created a folder on my computer called "What I have" and I have created pages in either Excel or Word that list my stuff including sample images. I have tabs for punches, copics, ink, dies, embossing folders etc. I then printed them out and placed them in a binder of the same name. When I buy something I put it into a basket and it stays in that basket until I get it inventoried. Then I transfer it to my storage system.
The one thing I have left to do is my stamps. I will be adding a column that relates to which binder (I store all my unmounted stamps in GinaK binders. Now I can number my binders and record the corresponding number on the inventory list.

Cathy, great minds think a like!! I haven't gotten to the point of numbering my binders yet. I'll have to add that to the columns. Thanks for the input!!
