Reisterstown MD Springtime Shoebox Swap - Saturday 26 April 2014
--> IMPORTANT UPDATE! Please see post #34 for new swap location information. See you all next Saturday!
Hi stampers!
My daughter Laura and I will be hosting a Stampin' Up! shoebox card swap on Saturday, 26 April 2014 from 9am-3pm. We'll be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1373 N. Main Street in Hampstead (NEW!). There's room for 25 stampers, with each person bringing a shoebox swap for everyone to make, and something from the food and refreshment list below to share. The cost of the swap is $8.00 per person.
All cards are to be full cards - no particular theme. Please bring enough supplies for everyone to make your card (i.e., 24 kits), including all card stock, patterned paper, stamps, inks, embellishments, and tools. Include one completed sample, along with written stamping and assembly instructions, in your shoebox. Please make sure that all of your non-consumable supplies are labeled with your name or initials, in case items tend to wander during the day. In addition to your card kits and supplies, bring your own adhesive, scissors, pop dots, glue dots, and bone folder to use throughout the day. All cards should be made using Stampin' Up! stamps, card stock, paper and inks. The stamp sets can be current or retired. No restrictions on embellishments.
Please sign up via this on-line thread if you'd like to join us. Tell a friend too! When you sign up, please indicate what you can bring to share from the suggested list below. Please submit your registration form (attached) with payment, and I will confirm your seat once I've received it. If you find that you have to cancel after you've paid, I'll refund your payment only if I'm able to fill your seat with someone else. I will start a waiting list if necessary.

Thanks, Laura - be sure either you or she lets me know as soon as she decides, so I can save a seat for her. Appreciate the potential recruit - be sure to tell her how much fun we have and how great the cards are! Cathy
I was away this past weekend and came home and found several registration forms and payments in the mail. Thanks to everyone who has paid and signed up to bring something for our pot luck. How are the card ideas coming? Three weekends to go until we get together - I'm waiting for a SU order to bring supplies to me and four fellow stampers so we can put our kits together
If you haven't sent your registration form and payment to me, and/or if you still need to sign up for the potluck, please try to do so as soon as you can. Thanks in advance - looking forward to seeing everyone!
I'll post directions and a final kit number count in the near future. Cathy
Hi I see that the last two spaces are still empty, my friend, Carol, is now sure she is available and would love to come. If there is space, she will bring a large bag of salad. I will send her registration with mine.
JoAnna - we'd love to have Carol join us, and I've added her to the list. And if she can bring a bagged salad, that would be great. Thanks so much - looking forward to our swap! Cathy
Hi everyone - here are the directions to the shoebox swap next Saturday,
26 April. The street address of the church is 203 E. Chatsworth Avenue, Reisterstown 21136, in case you want to pull a map or use your car or phone GPS. Otherwise ...
From Beltway 695, take Exit 19 (Rt 795, Northwest Expressway)
Take exit 7A, Franklin Blvd, off of 795
Proceed to the light at Reisterstown Road - Exxon station on your left, Eline funeral home on your right. Get in one of the two left-turn lanes.
Turn left onto Reisterstown Road, and proceed about two miles.
Landmarks include Franklin High School and McDonalds on the left, Chartley Shopping Center on the right - Brick Bodies is in this shopping center.
Just past the Chartley Shopping Center, the two lanes will merge into one. You'll be coming into the antique and business district of Reisterstown Main Street. Stay on Main Street, pass The Cow on your right, go through the light at Cockeys Mill Road.
At the next light, turn right onto E. Chatsworth Avenue. Proceed about 1/4 mile to All Saints' Episcopal Church on your left.
If you go as far as a 4-way stop sign, you've passed the church and gone a bit too far.
Park in the lot behind the social hall, and look for the Swap sign on the door.
If the weather is nice that day, you may want to save some time after the swap to go to The Cow, for the best gelatis and soft custard ice cream around!
I'll have my phone with me, and the number is 410-458-7788. Please let me know if you have any questions, or need directions from a different starting point. See you next Saturday! Cathy
Just a quick note to let you know that the swap is full. We have 22 stampers signed up, but three of us will be bringing two swap cards, so you will make 24 new cards that day. Please make sure that your swap 'shoebox' contains your completed card sample, stamping and assembly instructions, supplies, and 24 card kits. There will be at least two, and possibly three, first-time shoebox swappers in attendance, so if you can remember to include the instructions for making your card, I think that'll be very helpful.
A reminder, too, that you will need to plan to remain at the swap until everyone has had a chance to make your card. I think with 22 stampers in attendance, we should all be able to finish up close to, or maybe even before the 3pm end time. Thanks in advance, everyone. I'm looking forward to a great day of springtime stamping! Cathy

Late Friday afternoon I was notified that I wasn't going to be able to use the hall at All Saints in Reisterstown for our swap on Saturday. A parishioner passed away that morning and the funeral and reception have been scheduled for the 26th. Obviously something like this was unexpected, but presented a scheduling challenge nonetheless.
But, SUCCESS! After making numerous calls, exploring options on line, and brainstorming with Marcia (Stamper #17), I was able to find another location for our swap. A scrapbooking friend of mine and Marcia's is hosting an all-day crop at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hampstead, and has graciously and willingly agreed to let us hold our swap there too (as a separate event). I've been assured that the space is large enough for both groups, so let's give it a go - I'm sure we'll all have a great time! All of the previous information pertaining to our swap is still in effect, and the directions to our new location follow:
DIRECTIONS TO ST. MARK'S LUTHERAN CHURCH
1373 N. Main Street Hampstead, MD 21074
-From the Baltimore Beltway (695), take Exit 19 ( I795, NW Expressway )
-Follow 795 to the last exit (#9) and take Exit 9A towards MD-30N/Hanover
-Once off the ramp, stay straight to go onto MD-128/Butler Road - there will be a traffic light here, and you'll be crossing MD140.
-You'll pass Glyndon Nurseries on the left, and will come to a wide intersection with traffic lights. Get into one of the left turn lanes (I think there are two).
-Turn left onto MD-30/Hanover Road.
-Continue to follow MD-30 for approximately 7.5 miles.
-Enter the roundabout and take the first exit onto Hanover Pike. You'll be on Business Route 30 (as opposed to the more 'barren' bypass), and will pass all of the businesses and shopping centers as you drive through Hampstead.
-Hanover Pike eventually turns into Main Street.
-Proceed on Main Street about 1.2 miles, and you'll see the church on the right. If you notice the road that runs alongside the church, you can turn right there - it's just before the sign to the church. The parking lot is behind the church.
-Or, you can pass the church and turn right onto Fairmount Avenue (the left turn at this same traffic light is Hampstead/Mexico Road - you don't want that.)
-Once on Fairmount, make a fairly quick right turn onto East Alley, and proceed to the lot at the back of the church.
-I'll have my phone with me, and you can reach me on 410-458-7788 for questions. Let me know if you need directions from a different starting point.
Thanks in advance to everyone for your flexibility. I'm sure we'll have a good time, and a very successful card swap. And while I tempted you with frozen custard and gelatis at The Cow in Reisterstown, I can now tempt you with all kinds of sweets and baked goods from the local Hampstead bakery and coffee shop, Snickerdoodles. You may want to stop there for a treat after the swap
Laura T, JoAnna - I finally got around to consolidating all of the registration forms and payments, and opened your beautiful cards last night. Thanks so much for the handmade cards - I can't wait to see what you make for the swap. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness:smile: Cathy
Wow, glad you were able to find a new location at the last minute. Sounds like it will be an interesting day. I haven't figured out my card yet but I will have it done by then. I was thinking about bring some Pumpkin dip also. Is that ok? Pam
I'm happy and amazed that you could find another place on short notice.
I wanted to ask about the list of attendees. Carol was on the list about 4 or 5 people below me. Now her name is not there anywhere. I sent her registration and money with mine which you got. I'm just asking because this is her first shoebox and I want to be sure one of us won't be in the count you just posted with the directions to the new church. Please let me know, asap, please
No worries, JoAnna - she's on the list, spot #12. I may have rearranged names as some earlier people withdrew, but she's definitely there! See you both on Saturday in Hampstead  Cathy
