Hi!
I think I'm too far away to come, but where 'bouts is Redmond? I'd be coming from Surrey BC across the border at Peace Arch near Blaine and Bellingham.
Thanks for any info!
Heather L.
Hey Heather, It's not too bad. Just take I-5 southbound. At Lynnwood, I-405 splits off heading south east, which you take. At Hwy 520, you go east and go all the way to the end of the freeway (less than 10 miles.) The church is only about 5 blocks from the end of the freeway. Once you get through customs, it should take you less than two hours.
There are a few restaurants around (within a mile,) along with a small Joann's, but there's a cool Ben Franklin store about 4 miles up the road. (Jen can confirm this mileage for me.) There's also a large Michael's and a large Joann ETC in Bellevue, which won't be too far, either.
We can give you more detailed instructions, or you can check yahoo maps, but it's a pretty easy drive and everything is well marked. We need some Canadians here! I miss you guys!!! My DH and I used to go to Vancouver ALL THE TIME before the US got so ridiculous about customs. LOVE that place! (Well, Victoria, too, but Vancouver is fun!)
So, come on down!!!:-D
Hi Ladies
I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. Jen and I are hosting this event. We are having it at her church, which is in a business park, so it doesn't really seem like a church. There is LOTS of room.
As I said in my last post, there is food and shopping nearby. It is easy to get to, because it's almost all freeway.
RT has been so kind as to do the original posting AND collect the money, because Jen and I have never done anything like this before and we needed some HELP!
(SO THANK YOU RT FOR YOUR HELP.) That means, send your money to RT. PM her if you need her address, because I'm sure she doesn't want to post it here!
As for treats, yes, lets bring snacks and have a sign up list. When Jen and I attended this event in Oct at Portland, they (Doodah, RT and friends) were SOOOOOOOOOO organized, we thought we'd try to do it up here. So, please don't get frustrated with us as we get it all together. And yes, there may be an event in Puyallup, but that's a good 30 miles away, and it may also be held on Sunday. (I can't remember.)
Jen and I want this to be FUN FUN FUN. We want you to come and make at least $10 and have plenty of snacks. We will provide you with two make 'n takes. Not bad for $10. So, my question to you is, what do you want for your $10???? We can have a few door prizes, but we're not equipped to gather up the goods like they did in Portland.
We are sooooooo open to suggestions, so, please, let us have some!!!
RT, can you please start a snack list? As long as I can bring chocolate, I'll be a happy camper!
Thank you all!
I somehow didn't get a PM about this, I attended last years shoebox in Everett. That was so much fun! I'm not sure if I can make it or not this time. I don't think I can swing showbox swap one day and rubber stamp convention the next! LOL!

A Maid??? j.k. I'm good with just working on a make n' Take and the card swap projects. We spent ALLOT of time on goodies for last year and it was crazy.. If you wanted to do a little something then maybe take a dollar or two from each person's $10 fee and buy a Gift card through Michaels or Joann's or whom ever Joann's could be used on-line and call it good kwim? Or don't do any prizes at all and just stamp!!!
I don't get to come ... I say like Debby take $1.00 form each sign up person and MAKE ONE grand prize. WITH the MONEY give them cash!
You could make name tags and each name tag has a # on it! then simply draw a number at the end of the event.
I personaly would love to win cash.

Cindy, I think this is a great idea! That way we won't get all tripped out about trying to find the "right" thing to give out. Like I posted earlier, there are enough stores close by that a gift of $20 or 30 would be a nice treat. And, by numbering the name tags, it'll be fair and easy to choose. Thanks for the idea!!!
Jen and RT--what do you think?
Jen, why don't you post some of the ideas you sent me?
thanks everyone
cass
I'm fine with that. But we don't need to make name tags. I have the tickets left from last year's swap. We can just write each attendee's name on the back of the ticket and do a drawing. How about that?

Hi all! I think it's a go for me! Now I just have to figure out how to pay - I'll go back to the beginning of the thread. Just a double check with my hubby and it may be a done deal! I just hope the border doesn't turn out to be a hassle...it's not a holiday weekend is it??

Hi Ladies, after the Portland shoebox a group of us got together for dinner, would anyone be interested in doing that for this shoebox? It was great getting to know the gals I stamped with and enjoying dinner at the same time. Karen
they (Doodah, RT and friends) were SOOOOOOOOOO organized
I meant to clarify this when you first posted, but I had nothing to do with Portland... That was all Stampsandcars and Doodah. I believe Dorinda might have been involved, as well. But I only helped with the one up here in Everett last Spring... Novell, Joyce and I were like you guys... we were so inspired by the very first one that Dorinda and Shanon did in Portland that we decided to try it up here. We had a blast! We hope that someone will be inspired each swap to organize the next one... thereby bringing in new blood each time. Keeps things fresh.

Oops....spoke too soon. It's a long weekend for us - Victoria Day. The border may be a total zoo so I'm going to have to rethink this. Sorry!!
Heather
But Heather, wouldn't the traffic being going the opposite way? I mean, do you guys come down here on your 3 day holidays? (What a concept!)
What if you were to come down late Friday night and stay with us? Just a thought. I hate to see you give up stuff for traffic. I'm so guilty of that myself!

Karen, I'm game and I'd guess Jen is too. She knows the good restaurants in that area.

Good morning, RT. I'm really bad with names, and I don't think I'll know more than 3 people, so I'd like to stick with name tags. Maybe we could have a contest on who makes the cutest name tag. hahaha, but then we'd have to give a door prize!

Hey YOU . . . come and join us for a shoebox swap! Read the first post for all the great details! We are going to have lots of fun . . . you'll want to be there! Have a super evening! Nikki

Here's a door prize idea my group has done in the past. Each person brought a door prize for the event and they were given out during the event. It was fun and weren't always stamping related items, but nice gifts. We set a cost limit of $5-10.00 and was something the giver would want to receive as well. Then everyone went home with one door prize each.
Hi Stampincass if you or Jenn want to pick a place we could try for a reservation. So far, it's me, Debbie, hopefully Julie H. and Kristi are in too. Maybe one or two others.
I'd love to get together for dinner afterwords...it's looking good for me being able to attend! Australia will be the first part of June - exciting! I'll PM RT to get her paypal addy and pay up! See you all there!!!
Hi Lastel, Hope this finds you well. I was excited to see that your in for the Shoebox in May. I look forward to seeing you there. We shall catch up. I am at Karen's. So that's why her login. Take care, Debbie (purple7)
I'd like to join the dinner after the swap - we will be exhausted from all the fun work and laughing! I would also participate in the bring a gift so these are given out....thanks!

Hi ladies
For those of you who want to join us for dinner afterwards, what would you like to eat, and/or what price range do you want to be in?
There are a few Mexican restaurants and these: Desert Fire, Claim Jumper, Rubies, Red Robin, a Japanese place, etc. We'd like some ideas of what you want before we make a decision. Rubies is an old fashioned hamburger joint and their menu is on-line, as are the others.
thanks
You're blowing us off for Cirque de Soleil? Sheesh.
heehee
unless you ladies start practicing putting your feet behind your head and riding a unicycle at the same time....YUP! ;)
Maybe I can sneak over before hand and just visit for a few minutes. We'll see. DS actually takes Circus Class that morning...maybe in-betweeen the little prince's events! LOL

I'll make Doodah learn that right away!
I have added a sign up list for dinner as well. So please PM me with your snack and if you want to be included for dinner. I think I've found the names of everyone who posted in here.
