Save travels, my friend! My DD and I are leaving SLC tomorrow late afternoon and driving to Southern Utah. Will leave VERY early Saturday morning and drive in to Anaheim. Hoping all is well with the weather!! Does anyone know a reliable website to map your trip and check road conditions along the way? I've been looking all over but am only finding iffy results ...
Wow....if you're driving in from So. Utah, you must be leaving more like Friday night rather than Saturday morning!! Here's a reliable site: http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi That's Cal Trans and they'll have the most up-to-date traffic conditions on whatever road you input. They're tied into the CHP database. You can also call 1-800.427.7623 for current highway conditions.
Good luck. I think the suggestions to go down 101 are sound...the Grapevine is very likely to be closed by later today and who knows how long it will stay that way. I've seen it closed for two-three days at a time. Right now (5:45 am), the snow is sticking to the ground, and since they've already been closing it periodically - or pacing traffic - it wouldn't surprise me if they don't close it soon.
For us in the Central Valley, heading over to the coast to catch the 101 adds another two hours (at least) to the drive and those roads from our area tend to flood, so we'll just have to play it by ear. As excited as I've been over going to CHA for the first time, I'm trying to face the fact that we just might not make it this year.
Keeping my fingers crossed.....

Be safe everyone!! Just remember: it will be better to drive SLOW and carefully and get the CHA safe vs driving like a bat out of ........and not get there at all!!
OMG!! I hope it stops raining!! Right now it raining really hard and the hills right above my house have snow, which means it it getting pretty low with the cold too!! (think we are at the 25-3000 ft mark).....ICK!!!!
Looked at the forcast, Sat is suppose to be nice, but tomorrow is still rain!!
LOL!! I have a ticket for tomorrow, but ended up having to work.....sniff, sniff.....I'm just afraid everyone will party hard tomorrow and be all worn out for Sat!!

nope- because lots of people have to stay for the rest of the show and can't be partied out after one day!!

are you coming saturday then?!?!?
see you then!!
Yeah, I know that most have to stay for the rest of the show...but the first day excitement can't be beat!! (although, the first day of showcasing for the retailers probably comes close!!)
Currently no delays at LAX or JW. It's been pretty wicked down here in San Diego county. The whole coastal area up and down is the same: rain, thunder, and high winds, according to the weather channel.

Safe travels to those who are traveling today.
Nasty in my neck of the woods too! (Inland Empire). I seriously hopes this is over by Sat.
I'm out, ladies. I'm so disappointed, but too many issues blocking my hopes to attend this year. Are the tickets transferrable? If so, I have 2 tickets to both days I will gladly give away to anyone who can use them. Happy times and SAFE travels for those of you who are going!!

Nemo: I'm afraid we might not make it either. I-5 is now closed over the Grapevine and I doubt it will open tonight or tomorrow...it's pretty cold and rainy even at the base of the hill. We might try Saturday morning. Anyone driving from further north, please take note. Hwy. 58 over Tehachapi isn't closed yet, but probably will be soon. Coastal route is the only access now, and Hwy. 101 was flooding in some places in Los Angeles yesterday. Be careful!

it's soooooo weird to listen to you all talk about the weather down there- sounds like our "normal" weather up here for this time of year, and we have warmer than usual temps and no rain the last few days!!! It's a bit flip flopped it sounds!

AJ: That's what I was thinking! My step-son lives in Portland and they've had really mild (for them) weather the past couple of weeks. That darn jet stream is super low and we're getting all YOUR weather!! Can't really justify a flight down to Anaheim from here (it SHOULD only be a two hour drive), but sure wish it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg 'cuz it looks like that might be the only way we'd get over the mountains tomorrow!

I drove up from San Diego this afternoon and am in Anaheim. I am doing a Copic Certification tomorrow morning and didn't want to chance it. The rain seems to be letting up a bit.
I know Latisha and Deb have been delayed in Las Vegas for five hours!

I probably shouldn't tell you how sunny and gorgeous it is here today then????
I have to tell you that I find this comment so incredibly hilarious as I ALWAYS rub it in to friends/family/SCS chatters how nice of weather we are having when they are hunkered down!!!
It is WINDY and raining again....AND was only 40 deg when I came home at 4:30........ICKY!!!!

and it's not that often that us Washingtonians get the opportunity to rub it in either!!!!
EEEEAAAKKKK!! It is going to be a HUGE piece of humble pie!! MIL just called and said that a huge hail storm is hitting Simi Valley and is moving our way!
YIKES with all the bad weather talk! I'm going to be curled up in a ball under Cami's chair the whole way (not that I could fit or anything). We fly out in the morning...that is to say, if the flights are not cancelled. I'm hoping that we at least get there by Saturday afternoon - Cami's got a class to teach!!
Kisa, right now, looking outside, you would never know we had wild weather all day. Jay and I just got back from the mall (had to return my initial CHA shoes as they killed my feet when I wore them as a test run) and it was clear, light clouds, could see some stars but it was FREEZING!
So, maybe we are in between fronts or maybe it's gone through. I'm driving in the morning, too. I don't like to drive in the rain, so maybe it'll be good for flying and driving in the morning.

I'm hoping its moving through.......from your end to my end 'cause it is still raining here!!

Val! WHat is it, 50 degrees? We wear shorts in that! : )
Safe travels and I hope to see you tomorrow!!!!
Hi all - I made it to Orange County today. Came from the bay area - took 101 down and it wasn't too bad. We had some really big downpours off and on but there wasn't a lot of traffic. We even saw some fantastic rainbows and double rainbows. It took us 2 hours longer than going I5 but it was so much safer and I5 has been closed anyway. We always avoid going through LA so we too 101 to 23 north to 118 east to 210 to 57 south.
Also, the weather isn't bad down here - nothing like what we were having up north. They may have had the severe weather up until today but seriously it wasn't bad on the way down or when we got here.
DH just checked Caltrans and they said 5 is open now - but who knows what it will be like tomorrow.
Take care and I hope to see you here - drive safe!
Hugs, harriet
