We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
As you prepare your swaps, some things to keep in mind . . . .
1. Simple is best, really . . . we will be making 25 cards, and it doesn't seem like a lot, but it is. This is a fun time to play with sets we don't have, get to make a card with a color scheme you may have not thought of . . . and to enjoy each other.
2. I would stay away from anything truly messy . . . it may not be possible to plug in a heat gun, and clean up may be messy if 25 people add dazzling diamonds to a project. I am not saying these are absolute no no's, but keep that in mind when choosing your card design.
3. We want everyone to walk out with 25 cards . . . so if you feel like designing a fall or winter card even in the middle of summer that is fine. These cards will be sent to people for months to come.
4. Label the tools you bring, we don't want anything to get misplaced (I think I stole Granny Hawkins' bone folder for a while at the first Texas gathering)
And if you have any questions, just ask! Thanks!

Oh I am so excited, and you are right simple is good. I think we forget how pretty simple cards can be.
I think I may do an autumn card, heck it will be Halloween before you know it;)
Looking forward to meeting everyone too.

And of course after I post that long discertation, I find the most adorable card that I so want to CASE for the swap, but it would be a lot of steps for the swap. . . .sniff sniff.

Good evening. I wanted to see if anyone here is planning on attending The 2006 Great American Scrapbook Convention? I received a postcard in the mail about it, and will probably go. And I thought if anyone else was interested we could get together and go as a group. Here is the website www.greatamericanscrapbook.com. It is the weekend after our shoebox swap.
Let me know if you're interested.

Allright, I have two more registrations that I received this week. I am going to send out one last group of PMs to those who haven't responded and if I don't get a reply I will open it up to the wait list people.
I also have slots for friends that are reserved by people on the list. If I don't receive the registrations for those slots either I will have to give those to the wait list people as well.
Thanks to those of you who have sent your registrations in.

I'm going to start planning my shoe box this week. I've got a couple stamp sets that I want to use but, can't decide which one. I can't wait to meet everyone. I went to DC 2 weeks ago on a bus trip with the college I go to and we had a great time and I found some places I want to take my dh too. We're going to be staying for the weekend.
A friend of mine sit on a bench at the Washington Mall and a squirl jumped on the bench right beside her and tried to take her bagel. She jumped up and started walking real fast and the squirl started chasing her. We were in a group of five and we were laughing and telling her just give him a small piece and he'll leave you alone she yelled "I'm hungry and I'm not sharing."
We are getting close to the day. Have I started my shoebox cards yet? NO! I'm waiting to get inspired and to find out the final number coming. Also, Kristina and I need to plan food and door prizes! So please send in your registration and $$ ASAP! Thanks, I think this is going to be a LOT of fun.

We had two people have to cancel, but the slots were quickly taken by the first two people on our waiting list . . Marcystamps (Marcy) and her friend Janet.
We have 5 slots for "friends" that have not been claimed by those of you that originally requested them. If I don't hear from them by the end of this week (Saturday) I am going to cancel those slots and open them up to other people on our wait list.

Just wondering...how many of us have our Swaps together? I know *what* I'm doing (and to me, that's the hardest part!) and I just have to cut the CS and get supplies together. Maybe, just maybe, I won't be running around the night before getting it all together!

Another question...for those of you who live in NoVA...
Cami's Paperie and Angela's Happy Stamper...are they close by? Should we (I have a group of 5) try to get to one or both of them?

I did a Mapquest and it said Cami's is almost an hour but Angela's is only 22 minutes. Is that North of where the Get Together is? I'm not so sure we'd want to head farther away from home unless it's an amazing place to go... Opinions?

I have a basic idea, I know the set I am going to use, and I have a general idea of the layout, but being that it is more than a week away, I haven't started yet. I am too much of a procrastinator for that!

I have never been to Angela's . . .I just did a mapquest search too and it is North and slightly west. Maybe Joan has been there before. I could try to scope it out sometime to let you know . . . oh the sacrafices! I haven't been to Cami's either but her website sure makes it look cute!
Also, if it says it is only 22 minutes . . . .that could be an hour too. The traffic around here can be good, or it can be very, very bad. It looks like it is fairly close to Dulles Airport, so that could be a busy area. I'll let Joan chime in on it.

Angela's is in Reston. It is small but has a nice collection of stamps -- Amuse Art, etc. I don't think the paper selection is worth a trip however. On a Saturday, it would take a good 25 minutes to get there I think. The owner and staff are very nice. Call them for directions because it can be hard to find once you are on the actual street -- it is tucked away in a commercial type strip. It is "on the way" to Cami's...
Cami's is further out west -- in Purcellville in Loudoun County -- regardless of the map, it is about an hour from my house, which means it is an hour from the shoebox swap. It is hands down the BEST stamp and paper store I have ever been to, and I visit them whenever I travel. It has a huge selection of stamps and a drop dead selection of papers. But, it is a hike -- and bring money for tolls.
Before I became an SU demo, I frequented both places....
I think both are worth a visit, but it would be hard to see them and do the shoe box swap on the same day.

I haven't even thought about mine yet. We got back from Jamaica on Saturday, and on Sunday found out that I am pregnant. I am in my 5th week. So I have been a little preoccupied. I plan on gettimg mine together this weekend.

I contacted 2 people on the waiting list, and there are still a couple spaces if other people are interested, so if you have friends that want to come just let me know.

Hello Group! I'm so excited. I'll be mailing my form tonight. Are we still preparing for 25 people?
Well, funny you should ask that! Right now we are going to halt registrations . . . .if your name is on the list you are fine. We had a slight issue with the place that we were planning on meeting at . . . . slight being they contacted Joan and said that they were doing renovations and it won't be ready in time. So . . . . . . . we are looking for another place but if all else fails Joan is going to host it at her house. It may be a tight fit, but we are all friends . . .right? So bear with us, we will keep you updated.

I am very sorry if you wanted to come and lost out on the chance. If you registered and find that you can't make it after all, please let Kristina know. We are stopping registrations at 21, so at this point, prepare for 21 shoeboxes!! We most likely will be spread all over my house so get ready for some fun interaction.

Don't forget to post the new location/directions please?? Also, what do you need by way of snacks? Have people already said what they are bringing? Let me know what I can contribute.
I'm going to ask Kristina to send a pm with the directions as we get closer. It is literally 1 minute from the old directions! I don't think I need the TV tables, but will send out a shout if I do. Thanks!
BTW, I've done nothing to get ready by way of starting my design. I better get crackin!!

I have a sample swap ready, but may change my mind when my order comes on Wednesday. Would a swap made with one of the new hostess sets be okay? It is going to be so fun! I am looking forward to meeting all my stampin' buddies!
Now, if we change the location to my apartment, I have two really nice scrapbook stores within a mile of me! lol Come on over!
Ok. So I am not the only one that does not have there cards ready!? I have a show this weekend that I am working on. I may just use something from that, I never know what I am completely doing until the night before! I work best under pressure.
Totally, we would love the new Hostess Sets! I am using one myself, so that will be fun. I keep thinking I have a card in mind, but then I see something different on SCS and I think, well that is a cute layout . . . . so it changes!

I sort of maybe have a sample card, but my DH looked at it and didn't say WOW. So, back to the drawing board. It is getting late, isn't it! By the way, in case you are wondering, because this shindig is going to be at my house and not at my community center, we are collectively saving $100. Therefore, anyone who paid is going to get a refund of $5 each. We will have some door prizes and some food too. Now if I can just get a decent idea, I can enjoy it!

Ohhhhhh I SO debated on coming too as my brother will be visiting from HI and comes in that Friday. Keep us updated if you plan on opening up registration again! Or if you plan on doingit again any time soon. TY!

Theresa, I got your registration in the mail, I forget if I told you that or not.
As far as snacks, whatever you want, probably finger type foods are the best, and the less messy the better since we all need those fingers to stamp with. (M and Ms are encouraged, since we all know they melt in your mouth and not in your hand, although the ones I eat never have a chance to prove it!) We will be providing napkins, plates, cups and drinks.

Oh we'd love to have you, but we are too crowded as it is, I bet there will be another one sometime soon.
