It says something about us making a shoebox project for the hostesses of the mingle.
But I still want to know what it is; sounds interesting...and cute.
That reference has been deleted from Post #1, it was something we did for the 2009 event and accidentally was copied over into the post for the 2010 event post.
A shoebox swap is when you make sent number of card kits and put them in a shoebox. The "kit" has all of the paper pre-cut to size and all necessary items to recreate the card according to the instructions that you provide or by looking at the sample. The box includes the stamp, ink or technique tools. The card/project takes 10 min. or less to complete and the person moves along to the next shoebox.
We are not doing this at the 2010 MIngle and have something else planned in its place.

That's cute! Thanks for explaining....I was just curious because I saw them chatting about it from the last mingle.
Tracy has some family stuff going on this weekend so I don't think she will be able to confirm registrations until Monday, for those anxiously awaiting word.
Do you have an approximate close date for the swaps? I'm on the fence about the 3D project and want to know when I need to decide by.
I am planning to leave the swap sign ups open until 2/15/10. That will still give you over a month to get them done and you can always start on them early.
If you are on the fence about this, don't delay. I just notified about 800 SCS'ers that are from MI about this event. Hopefully that fills us up and Tracy, Patty and I can relax and focus on the fun stuff.

I'm all about the the fun stuff! I'm still have some uber cool give aways to come!!!
I am one of the 800 scs from michigan that just got the invite.
I am the only one left in my little group that still stamps!! Dont know if I can convince any of them to come with, so my question:
Would I feel comfortable if I am a single, with no friends :( dont know anyone on the board, and decide to come alone?
I've never attended a crop/stamp event without one of my girls, sounds like so much fun I hate to say no.
Please advise,Beth
There are a few gals who came last year not knowing anyone and they made some great new friends. We have a chat thread where you can get to know some of the other people coming before the event. Stop by the link in my signature for MI Chat and jump right in!

Beth I think you'd have no problem coming alone! I'll bet that over the past mingles we'd had about 30 to 40% of our folks come "alone" you won't be alone for long!
Yay, just got the invite and I'm sending my registration in TODAY! This is right in my back yard so how can I NOT be there??? I'll be a "single" mingler but I am definitely looking forward to meeting lots of new friends. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Beth, I think you would be comfortable there! I've been chatting with the ladies on the thread that Lorien mentioned and they are absolutely wonderful. Then I met many of them at the mini-mingle and it was so much fun ~ prior to that, I had never stamped away from home except for a class.
Please come visit the chat thread and introduce yourself ~ and it would be great to meet you at the March mingle !!!

Denise, if you go to the beginning of the thread all the info is there. There is an attachment to one of the first posts that has the registration form and instructions on where to mail it along with your payment.
A PM is a private message here on SCS. You already have a screen name, that's your user name on SCS - it is denisecarpenter.
OK, I too received the last message, and have never attended (or even known about) a Michigan Mingle. I would love to come. I am single too, but sounds like it is not a problem fitting in. I will send out my registration today. So for the swaps (never have done one) does one just make 1 sample card or front in the category they choose? Do you put the materials/how to list on it somewhere? Do people bring their own projects to work on? Newbies sheesh!
Thanks for your invite.
Carrie

Hi Carrie! For the swaps you will make however many sign up for the same group you sign up, for all the same. So if you sign up for the card swap and 25 people sign up for the card swap, you will make 25 of the same card and bring them all to swap. Then everyone in that group will leave with one card from each person in the group. Hope that helps!
I watched my reg go out in the mail today and am soooo hoping it gets there in time. I'm waiting for confirmation before I book a room. I had hoped the woodworking show would be going on at the same time so I could bring my DH and he would have something to do. Alas, they are doing a pool and spa show which absolutely is not on the list of things to do. Is there anything else near there that would amuse a woodworking, sports watching man for 2 days other than a bar? Otherwise, I will come stag. Thanks, Lisa

Beth, you won't be alone. You'll have us!
I haven't met any of these ladies in person yet, either- but they're nice gals and I'm pretty certain we'll all be comfortable. I'm coming alone as well. ;)
Beth, there is a Bass Pro Sports store at the Great Lakes Crossing mall which is about a half-hour drive from where you will be staying. It's a pretty cool huge store that could probably keep a sportsman occupied for the better part of a day.
For all you newbies, I went alone last time and had a blast!! I met some wonderful women and made some great friends. I even shared a room with 3 ladies I never met and had only chatted with here on the thread. My family was worried I was going to be hacked in my sleep, but as you can see I am alive and well. My only rule was everybody had to keep their clothes on!! Laura (OkieChic) was my bed buddy and she didn't hug the blankets at all.
I took all kinds of stuff to work on, and hardly did any at all, cuz I was visiting so much. There were ladies there that did bring stuff to work on, and they did, but I was there to meet everyone.
Be ready to laugh alot, and stay up late. First night I was up til 1am, 2nd night 2 or 3 am. When I got home I told hubby I was going to bed and not to wake me til the morning!
If only having a sister and brother in-law with the postal service would speed up my mail! It certainly sounds like a blast, though that is a tad bit beyond my bedtime. I may have to make an exception to THAT rule. If I don't make the cutoff for this one, I do hope there will be more. Are any of you folks from the group in the Traverse city area last time? That was too far for me, though I would have to find a way next time. This one is pretty close to my stomping (not stamping) grounds. I'm with Piccadillie, I'll be there to meet people. I hardly work on my stuff at home, why would I think I would work on it when there are fun people to meet? I hope we get the chance to make it too but we'll enjoy the posts and pictures vicariously if not! Lisa
Lisa, if you don't make it to the Mingle, usually some will meet for little get togethers. A few of the ladies will get together and plan a day. Make sure you stick to the thread that way they will know you are interested.
Just a note to those who recently sent in their registrations. You will not receive confirmation until the day after Thanksgiving. Tracy is probably on the beach sipping a margarita as we speak.

My new mantra... patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue... Thanks for the info, I'll quit obsessing for a week. I may still shop for some Copic pens. Just in case, of course. By the way, a long time ago there was a thread comparing which copic to buy. Sketch, Ciao, etc. Anybody have a strong opinion on which one I should be looking for. Thanks, Lisa
I have mostly ciao unless a color I wanted wasn't available in that style. Cheaper that way and I am glad I did that because I haven't used them as often as I would've liked.

Thank you, I've seen lots of copic chatter but really don't know much about them. That does help, I don't use anything I buy as much as I would have liked!

You've NEVER done a swap?!?! We must get you addicted ...I mean, get you into some!
I'm bringing my own projects, but I have a feeling that I'll be running my mouth more than project-ing!
