IA **CLOSED & CREATING - Eastern Iowa Shoebox Swap - March 27th!!!

Time: 9 AM to 5 PM (maybe earlier if we get done) Feel free to leave if you need to
Cost: $10.00
Registration Deadline: March 12th, 2010

Please note!!
***We will be going out to dinner after the swap if you would like to join us. I will need to have a rough idea of who is planning on coming to dinner so I can find a place big enough or if you have a suggestion please feel free to share it!!!
NEW THIS TIME!!
A contest for the best name tag!!
At the beginning of the swap we will go around and look at all the name tags and then we will cast a vote for the best one so start thinking about your name tag as a great gift will be given out!!
Name Tags Make and wear a nametag with your name and your SCS name (if you have one) so that we know you on sight.
What is a shoebox swap?
This is a fun swap to create a lot of cards in a short time but only have to come up with one great idea of your own! Prior to the day, you will need to create a card and bring all the supplies needed for each participant to create the card. The number all depends on how many people we get to sign up. I will let you know a month ahead of time. These cards should not take more than 10-15 minutes to complete. I definitely do not want to discourage challenging cards or cards showcasing new techniques. However, if your card is intricate and fancy you may want to pre-stamp or pre-assemble some items for the other stampers. You will need to make a completed sample of your card so everyone can see what the card is supposed to look like. Then each person will be able to complete your card and take home a variety of cards.
This is a full card swap. Cards should have a minimum of two layers and one embellishment. You need to supply all materials needed for your card. That means cardstock, ribbon, eyelets, stamps, ink, etc. All cardstock will need to be pre-cut to sheet or to the size needed for your card. This not only saves you money, but the rest of us time. No vendor requirements on all supplies, but quality, thick cardstock is a MUST! Current Stampin Up products are preferable. No envelopes need be supplied.
Put all pieces needed to assemble your card into separate sandwich bags or kits. Include written/printed instructions for your card in each bag. You will not be demonstrating these, so please make sure your instructions are very, very clear so that even beginners can easily complete your card.
Put your original card, your kits, stamps, ink and anything else that is needed but not in the basic supply kit in a Shoebox or basket. On the outside please put your name so we know who made which project. You may want to cut a few extras in case boo-boos occur. Please label all your supplies.
Please bring a BASIC SUPPLY KIT to include: Stamp-n-scrub w/stamp cleaner, scissors, adhesive, pop dots or foam dots, bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, and a black journaling marker and whatever else you cant stamp without (markers?). Have some sort of carry case for these items as youll be moving to each station.
Please also bring something to carry your completed cards in that will keep them safe. Bring your camera if you want to take pictures of the card samples in case you dont have time to complete all the projects.
YOU NEED TO BRING ENOUGH SUPPLIES FOR EVERY PERSON THAT ATTENDS THE EVENT TO MAKE YOUR CARD. Final count will be given 2 weeks in advance.
Other Info:
If you have any questions, please pm me. I will be happy to explain any details you wish to know about.
YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER AND PRE-PAY
Cost: $10.00 per person. Your registration must be paid no later than March 12th. Mail your registration form and payment to me. There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Heres whats planned:
Shoebox Swap Youll know how many to make when we post the final count, and youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is a month ahead of the event.
Lunch and light afternoon snacks will be provided. If you have a favorite snack you would like to share, please feel free to bring it. The kitchen will be available for our use.
Door Prizes If you would like to donate a wrapped gift, we will draw names through out the day. Stamped projects are also welcomed. If its something youd like to take home, its probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. If you wish to donate a prize, please PM me so I will know for planning.
Garage Sale Please bring any items that you would like to trade or sell. Current SU supplies may be traded but can not be sold. Any retired products may be offered for sale. We will have some shopping time during the lunch break.
I can't wait to get together again and meet new people as well.

HI Crystal, I found the thread too late to join the last one, but I was intrigued and have been (not so) patiently waiting for the next one. Please sign me up. I can't wait for my first shoebox swap!
I'm checking my calendar & will let you know. I'd like to get a few more of my stamper friends from here to come along & I've sent them all an email about it. I'll let you know shortly.
Bad news Rhonda will be in Phoenix during your swap{bad news for he:(r} I am coming and will see how many others I can round up Can't wait I am already planning my card
I have Becky Swalve wanting to come and Kath is trying to work out her schedule...don't know if we will be able to do dinner as the oter 2 ladies have daughters in a play that weekend but will let you know for sure later.
I wish I could come!! Having my inlaws here for Kaylee's final high school play. And you know I am all about going out to eat afterwards!! :( Try to have fun without Rhonda & I!!

I have had something big come up during all the other swaps. I really want to come this time. I am going to have to check schedules, mine and my kids... I'll let you know.
Barbra and I are so looking forward to this. We had a great time at the other one we attended. We are coming from Des Moines and we have room for two more if anyone would like to carpool. We plan on sticking around for dinner afterwards.
I am so excited you ladies are able to make it again! Are we doing it the same way as last time the both of you will bring 1 card and then work on the rest of the cards together? Just let me know so I know how many spaces you need.
Thanks

Crystal, that is awesome. I hope to know by the end of today.
Good Morning! We are almost full! Woohoo! and many of you have paid that is great! I will start a waiting list if we get full for those last minute plans that come up! I am so excited! Have a great day!

Holy toledo ladies! This swap has been open less than a week and we are only 3 shy of being full! You gals rock! A waiting list will be started if needed.

Yikes this went quick! I'm from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and have 2 ladies at our branch office in DesMoines that I have to check with. We've been wanting something in Iowa so we could meet part way. I'll have to get a hold of them this weekend and see if they have this date available for getting together. Has anyone been to Fossil Gorge in the past year? I love going there but heard it got flooded again - I wonder what it's like now and if I'd want to spend more than a day in your area!
Add me to the list. I'll certainly be there. I didn't realize it was filling up so fast. I think Kelli Williams & Tami Gradert will be back as well if there is still room.
I wanted to say thank you for filling this swap up so fast! I do have one question what do you think of opening it up to 30 instead of 25? Honest opinions please and I promise no feelings will be hurt. I am open to suggestions to as I sure hate to leave people out let me know what you are thinking.
Thanks

Since the swap is filling up so quick - we will just take one of the spots. That way, one of us is able to help set up lunch, make a set for a swapper that can't make it, or whatever else you may need.
Opening it up to 30 is fine with me also. We always seem to have plenty of time, and if there's room at the hall, I'm all for it. I usually make extra kits anyway.
Ok ladies I have a consensus we are opening this awesome swap up to 30 ladies and we are officially full! I have started a waiting list so if something comes up and you are not able to attend please let me know so I can let those on the waiting list in. Thanks for all your input it was greatly appreciated! Have a great day and I am looking forward to this awesome day!
