Central New York Gathering #7 - 2/2/08 (registration is CLOSED!!!!!)
Central New York #7 Community Room - Arnot Mall Big Flats, NY 10:00am to 6:00pm $15 Registration Fee
Registration for this event is closed. There is another event planned for March 15th in Rotterdam, NY. Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Any information that you NEED to know will be posted in the first 20 posts of this thread.
WHEN YOU READ DOWN THROUGH THE ITEMS, YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT ARE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WAS DONE AT PREVIOUS EVENTS. I AM IN NO WAY TRYING TO UNDO OR OUTDO WHAT ANYONE ELSE HAS DONE, I AM SIMPLY TRYING TO "MAKE IT MY OWN". I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE USE OF THE ROOM. AND BECAUSE THE FOOD COURT IS RIGHT THERE, I DON'T HAVE TO ASK YOU TO BRING A DISH TO PASS. AT PREVIOUS GATHERINGS PEOPLE EITHER SIGNED UP TO PROVIDE FOOD OR TO PROVIDE A MAKE-AND-TAKE. FOR THIS EVENT, I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FOUR OTHER PEOPLE AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO PROVIDE THE GROUP MAKE-AND-TAKES FOR THE AFTERNOON. (SINCE THERE IS NO DONATION OF A DISH-TO-PASS TO "OFFSET" THE DONATION OF A MAKE-AND-TAKE, I HAVE DECIDED THAT THE MAKE-AND-TAKE WILL BE CONSIDERED = TO THEIR REGISTRATION FEE.) SO FOR THE REST OF YOU, YOU WILL ONLY HAVE TO BRING YOUR SHOEBOX, YOUR SWAPS, YOUR CHALLENGE ENTRY AND YOUR PERSONAL STAMPING ITEMS. THE PARKING SITUATION WILL BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FROM BEING ABLE TO PARK IN THE CHURCH PARKING LOT. YOU WILL NOT NECESSARILY GET A GREAT/CLOSE SPOT. SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO THINK ABOUT SOME SORT OF ROLLING TOTE OR LUGGAGE CART TO USE TO BRING YOUR STUFF IN (DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU HAVE). THERE IS AN ELEVATOR, ESCALATOR AND STAIRS THAT CAN BE USED TO GET YOU UP TO WHERE THE ROOM IS.
I ADDED AN HOUR TO THE END OF THE DAY TO HOPEFULLY HELP THINGS SEEM A LITTLE LESS RUSHED. WE HAVE THE ROOM UNTIL MIDNIGHT, SO IF ANYONE WANTS TO STAY AND PLAY LATER THAN 6PM - I'LL BE THERE!!! BUT THE EVENTS OF THE DAY WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF IN TIME FOR PEOPLE TO GET ON THE ROAD BY 6PM. I WOULD LIKE TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO TRY TO ARRIVE AND GET SETTLED SO THAT WE CAN START STAMPING AT 10AM. YOU MAY START ARRIVING AS EARLY AS 9:30AM. IT COULD BE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE TO BE ON TIME (hint, hint!) ;) I WOULD ALSO ENCOURAGE YOU TO SET ASIDE THE ENTIRE DAY FOR THIS EVENT. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING ELSE THAT YOU NEED TO DO AT 7PM OR WHENEVER THAT EVENING, THEN MAYBE IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH TO SIGN UP TO DO THIS ALSO? I DON'T WANT TO TURN ANYONE AWAY, BUT I ALSO DON'T WANT THE PACE OF THE DAY TO BE SET ON WARP SPEED BECAUSE A FEW PEOPLE NEED TO BE SOMEWHERE ELSE BY A CERTAIN TIME.
THERE WILL BE NO ASSIGNMENT OF GROUPS PRIOR TO THE DAY OF THE EVENT. IF YOU ARE COMING FOR THE FIRST TIME OR REALLY PREFER TO BE SEATED WITH A CERTAIN PERSON DUE TO YOUR COMFORT LEVEL, THEN PLEASE INDICATE THAT IN THE COMMENTS SECTION OF YOUR REGISTRATION FORM. OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE SOME FUN WAY OF DRAWING FOR YOUR TABLE ASSIGNMENT ONCE YOUR ARRIVE!!

DIRECTIONS
Arnot Mall
3300 Chambers Road South
Horseheads, NY 14845
BASIC directions so you have an idea of where this is.....everyone will need to make their way to Interstate 86/17. The exit you will be taking is between Horseheads and Corning and is Exit 51a.
If you are coming from the Syracuse area, you will need to take Route 81 south to Cortland and then get on Route 13 and head south through Ithaca and down to Interstate 86/17. (approximately 2 hours)
If you are coming from the Rochester area, you will need to take Route 390 south until you get near Bath when it becomes Interstate 86/17. Keep heading east past Corning until you get to Exit 51a. (approximately 1.5-2 hours)
If you are coming FROM THE WEST (Rochester, Hornell, Corning, etc.), you will turn LEFT at the end of the exit ramp. You will cross over top of 86/17. Work your way over to the right hand lane. Go to the SECOND STOP LIGHT (Olive Garden should be on your right and you should see the Arnot Mall entrance sign, as well as, the movie listing sign). You actually don't need to stop at the light, but rather take the farthest right lane and turn RIGHT into the mall.
If you are coming FROM THE EAST (Syracuse, Binghamtom, Sayre, etc.), you will turn RIGHT at the end of the exit ramp. Stay in the lane that you are in and turn RIGHT into the mall.
Turn RIGHT to get on the loop that goes around the mall (you don't need to stop at that intersection - you do not have a STOP sign, but the people going the other way do). Continue on around the loop - you will pass The Bon Ton on the left - and you will begin to see Macy's. There is also an Arnot Mall sign on the right hand side of the loop. Turn LEFT into the parking lot in this area. You will see a blue ARNOT MALL entrance located between The BonTon and Macy's. This is the entrance you want to go in. Go straight down the mall corridor and you will be in the center of the mall. Go up the stairs, the escalator or take the elevator. Once you are upstairs in the food court area, go RIGHT toward the movie theater. The hallway you need to go down is to the LEFT of the movie theater and is labeled for the RESTROOMS (and tucked in a little bit behind the neon RESTROOMS sign is the sign for the Community Room). Go past the two bathrooms until you come to a set of doors on the left. We will have the doors propped open and there will be some sort of signage to let you know you are in the right place. See you there!!
Outside the mall, but in the general area are MANY stores: Michael's, Old Navy, Staples, TJMaxx, Supermarket of Shoes, Tops, Walmart, Sam's, Dick's, Target, Lowe's, Toys R Us, Best Buy, Kohl's, Circuit City......and MUCH MORE!
And if you are able to stay in the area to eat some dinner: Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Outback, Chili's, McDonald's, Dunkin' Donuts, Applebee's, T.G.I.F. and Old Country Buffet are some of the bigger chain places right up by the mall. Ruby Tuesday's is in the mall.
**NEW INFO**
I'm attaching a map and schedule of the FREE SHOPPER SHUTTLE that runs between the stores up by the mall. You may want to take advantage of that if you are coming down early to shop. Or at the very least you have a little bit of a map to outline the area right by the mall.
Additional stores near what is listed on the map:
Kohl's - Circuit City
Target/Best Buy - Panera Bread, EZHome and Maurice's
Cost Cutters - Dollar Store, Dick's, Payless Shoes, Verizon, some others
Staples - Barnes & Nobles, TJMax
Old Navy - PetCo, Supermarket of Shoes, Dress Barn, Michael's
Pier 1 - near there is the Toys R Us

FOOD
This event is being held at the Arnot Mall and the food court in right down the hall, so there will be no need for you to bring food to share. If you wish to bring your own snacks or lunch, that is fine. It would be appreciated if there is no food eaten at the work tables. And if you have a drink with you, please make sure that it is a spill-proof container. ;)
The food court has: Friendly's, Burger King, Arby's, a chinese place, Blimpie, Picnic Pizza and I think a hot dog place. The movie theater is also right there with snacks and popcorn. There is a coffee place down in the corridor of the mall. Hershey's ice cream. Aunt Annie's pretzels. Great American Cookie.

SHOEBOX SWAPS (MANDATORY)
This is the only part of the day that is mandatory for you to participate in. A shoebox can be any type of project that you would make where stamping is involved.
Bring your project and all the supplies needed for making it in some sort of box (hence the term shoebox). The shoebox projects will be done in small groups with your tablemates (tables of no more than eight, so that would mean SEVENkits since you don't do your own project that day). Some people type up directions to go along with their project, but that is up to you. The shoebox projects will be the first thing we do that day. When we start, each table will take turns going around introducing ourselves and our project (just to those at our table). Then I recommend that the projects stay in place and that the people rotate around the table completing the projects. It seems to help keep all the supplies for the individual projects in one location.
You will also need to bring FIVE completed shoebox projects :
1 completed project for your tablemates to follow as a sample
2 completed projects to be used as door prizes
2 completed projects to be used as thank yous
For those of you that would like to have an opportunity to do some of the shoebox projects from other tables, you will need to bring EXTRA kits of your own project to "trade". We will first make sure that everyone at a given table has had the opportunity to make all of the projects at their own table. Then we will probably move the extra shoebox projects to other tables.

6x6 SCRAP SWAP (OPTIONAL)
FINAL COUNT IS 22!!!
Here is the info from Kim (kimberly6977):
"OK ladies, so we thought perhaps it would be possible to organize a swap for us scrappers and everyone who is willing to play along with us!! So…….here goes!!
Description:
This swap will be for a TWO-page 6x6 layout with a “Months of the Year“ theme. Two layers minimum and at least one embellishment, please! NVR (no vendor restrictions).
Once I get a final count, I will know how many additional layouts (if any) will be needed. So if MORE than 12 sign up, all the months will be covered and I will add other significant holidays and events so that there is something DIFFERENT for everyone to do. At that point, I will put all of your names in a hat and pick who will do what and have those assignments added to the Scrap Swap signup post!
Have I lost anyone yet? Hope not but please don’t hesitate to PM your questions to me (kimberly6977). I am not real good about keeping up with the thread so PMs will work best for me. As questions come up I will have updates posted in this section so EVERYONE is getting the same information."
Please include the following information on the back of your swap:
Your name Your SCS name Your email address/contact information Swap recipe is also helpful, but not mandatory

GIFT SWAP (OPTIONAL)
Everyone that brings a wrapped gift will be included in the swap. While there are no restrictions on WHAT you bring, since this IS a stamping event...it would be great to have it be something handmade with stamps or something related to stamping. ;) And it should be something approximately $5 in value. We will draw numbers to determine who picks first and then things will progess in "Yankee Trader" style where the next person is allowed to steal from someone or pick from the table, etc. Be sure to include your name somewhere inside, so the lucky winner knows who to thank.

NAMETAG (PREFERRED)
It is so nice to go to these events and put a name to face....well a screen name to a face! ;) So if everyone could wear some sort of nametag that lists their real name and their screen name....that would be appreciated. AND if you don't mind listing your hometown, it would be fun to see where everyone is from. If you already have a nametag made that you would like to use or if you would rather not include your hometown....that is fine too. Just a fun suggestion for anyone that would like to. ;)
There will not be a contest for the best nametag this time, but it is still fun to see the creative ones!! ;)

ANYTHING BUT A CARD CHALLENGE (OPTIONAL)
In place of the nametag contest......a challenge is being issued to all of you!! Since Valentine's Day will be soon after our event, it will be a Valentine's Day related challenge. There are no restrictions regarding products to use, etc. - the only rule is - IT HAS TO BE ANYTHING BUT A CARD!!! So get your creative thinking caps on and get those wheels churning. We will have a spot set up to display all of the entries. We will take time throughout the earlier part of the day for everyone to check out the beautiful creations and cast their vote for their favorite. The person with the most number of votes will win a prize!

GARAGE SALE
Bring items to trade or sell.
Note: Any SU! items offered for sale must be retired. You can trade current items.
I hate to have to say this, but in the past people have had items "walk away". I would like to think that we wouldn't have to worry about that kind of thing?!?! But I want all of you to be well informed, so that hopefully we can avoid any issues this time around.
A couple of good suggestions that have come up:
We will have a "shopping time" designated at some point during the day. If you have the ability to scan or take digital pictures of what you are offering for trade or for sale....maybe you can just print up some "flyers" with your sets, prices and your name. Then during the shopping time anyone that is interested in sets you have, can make sure they track you down.
You are also welcome to post pictures on this thread between now and the gathering....of any items that you will be bringing for the "garage sale". I'll try to keep this section updated with the post #'s that have pictures/information in then.

PHOTO FOR CNY DIRECTORY
At the bottom of the registration form you will notice the question:
"Would you like to share your information with other CNY SCS participants?"
If you check that is it OK to share your information, then you will be included in a directory that will be handed out to everyone in February. I was thinking it would be neat to have pictures of everyone next to their information. I realize not everyone (including myself!!!!) really likes to have their picture taken. So if you would rather not do this, that is fine!!! But if you do want your picture included, please email a digital picture to me: [email protected]. Please take the picture with the lowest setting on your digital camera. Or resize the photo with photo editing software so that it is roughly 600x800 pixels. I still have dial-up for my internet connection and large files take forever to download!!
Some people have requested that I just use their avatar from this site. If you want me to do that for yours....just let me know. ;)
um... I'm sorry... :(
I don't think I can commit to coming. Feb driving is not my favorite thing to do. When y'all were talking about the scrap swap, I didn't realize it was for the Feb. gathering. :(
If DeMud decides to go, I might come with her, but otherwise don't want to plan to drive the 2 hours by myself.
Sorry for the confusion...

YES....I HOPE to have the registration form posted by the end of the weekend!!! I can only do Word, so I might have to bug you to convert it to a PDF for me? ;)
You can PM me any of the swap stuff, that is fine. Even if someone else is heading it up, they will ultimately have to PM me to edit the post. So maybe I'll just go back and add PM ME to all of those.
