My daughter will be starting school this year and I'm wondering about teacher's gifts. What is some good ideas to give and when do you give them gifts?

I am a teacher...the most common times of the year for teacher gifts: teacher appreciation week (ours in TX is in May, I'm not sure if it nationally in May too), valentines, xmas, and end of the year. I've heard of some people doing back to school small gifts..
I love stamped gifts: stationary sets, stamped card sets, altered items (clipboards etc), post it note holders...
I'm a teacher too... whatever you do, don't do the mug thing! I have SOOOOO many mugs! My teacher friends and I love gift cards. Small amounts are perfectly fine! The best/safest are to book stores, coffee shops, and restaurants. Teachers don't make a lot of money and things like that can be very nice... especially in a nice hand stamped card! Check out the clipboard gally and the name frames. Those are great too! Just keep in mind... teacher are happy just being thought of and recognized for all they do!
I never seem to have enough thank you cards. Teachers go through a lot of those! I also remember loving it when my 3rd grade teacher would leave a note on my desk before school--maybe some kind of generic "A Note From Your Teacher" type cards, too? Cards are always welcome (well, any kind thoughts or gifts are, to be honest!). If you're pressed for time or don't want to make a bunch of stuff, extra school supplies are always welcome, too. (Think pencils, paper, manilla paper, glue, scissors, chalk, markers...the list could go on and on!)
I love to give gifts to my kids' teachers and I try to do something little at least every other month. I give them a set of matching cards, or a little gift card to Starbucks in a card, or a themed holiday gift, like a little something for Halloween, or Valentine's Day, etc. Last year for Valentine's Day I gave them those Target $1 mailboxes decorated and filled with candy. For Halloween I gave them each this mummy can:
At the beginning of the year I make them a personalized notebook. I just like to show them that they are appreciated more than just on "Teacher Appreciation Day".
Hope that gives you some ideas!!
I've also done a lot of gift card holders and bookmarks that I just realized I've never uploaded. I TRY to stick with useful gifts or just a pretty card with a gift card inserted.
It depends on how much I like the teacher in what they get. One year I stamped on scarves, have done altered clipboards, hot chocolate cones, etc. (which can all be seen in my gallery) I give them gifts at Christmas, Valentines and end of the year. If we know their birthday, we'll make a small little something for them even if it is a day or two belated. Also I try to send in a Thank you card at the begining of the year and at Thanksgiving we do the Blessing mix for the teachers. (k, so I like to spoil my teachers! lol)
These are a few of my favorite gifts that I have given. The Personalized card sets are my biggest hit. I will probably do those the most this year since I have one going into middle school. The last two years I have made name frames for the teachers.. most of the times they have gotten them at the end of the year as I always forget to do them at the beginning or at Christmas time! lol
So, for Christmas I usually get the teachers ornaments (or make them). My kids are all in elementary school so their classes all have themes like Mrs C's ducks or Mr G's bears....I try to get an ornament that fits the theme. One year I gave a teacher a school bus because that was her theme. Of course, we always make them something too!
For my son's preschool at Christmas I stamped the teachers name and class and then had each of the kids paint thier handprint on it, we also did a fleece scarf. She really liked it.
I try to go with something consumable...last year I did a 2,4,6,8 box with Dove chocolates inside for appreciation, a big jar of homemade hot chocolate mix with a hand stamped tag & directions for Christmas, & a set of ladybug thinking of you cards at the end of the year, packaged in a clear papertrey box.
This year I think I'm going to do nugget tins with the clear hinged container (papertrey again!), and maybe a giant paperclip with cards. Dunno yet...the 2,4,6,8 box is still my favorite!
My daughter will be starting school this year and I'm wondering about teacher's gifts. What is some good ideas to give and when do you give them gifts?
I cover pens...with either air-dry clay or leftover scraps of paper. Easy and fast, and they're a popular gift for teachers and friends. One reason I give pens is that I have seem to have enough when I was teaching!
Have instructions types on my blog for both. Leftovers:Pens (April 9 post) is under Labels and Air-dry clay: Pens is a May 28 post. For some reason, that post isn't in labels, and I can't figure out how to get it there.

I usually give a set of notecards, some thank you's and some blank. I got spoiled with some great room moms who gave every parent a list of teacher's favorite colors, hobbies, restaurants, etc. A friend who is a teacher loves Target gift cards as she can buy stuff for herself, her own kids or for the classroom as needed. A new teacher would probably like a gift card to a teacher supply store or Michaels to stock up on the necessities. This is all from the California point of view where we have to bring in copier paper, kleenex, pencils, etc., or by the end of the year the cupboards are bare.

Here is a gift (a tool belt) that I made for my DS's teacher last year. She always wore a Home Depot one to carry her stuff around in. So when I saw this at the $1 store I had to buy it. I used the Avery Dark T-shirt Transfers and stamped on them and then transferred onto the belt. She wears it every day (and she said she has other teachers ask where she got it!)
What stamp set is that on the envie flap and the background of the card? I like it alot. Thanks Super cute by the way. I work at a school and am going to make some things for my teacher coworkers and my son's teacher.
I'm a teacher and anything is fine! Gift cards for school supplies would be great for me 'cause I really don't like coffee and I have to watch my sugar intake, too.

please post the answer here as I would like to know too.

Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
I like to say "Thanks" whenever possible - for Halloween I made treat bags with chocolates inside and a poem attached:
There's no trick in what you do
It's love from your head to your feet
So we wish you a Halloween Hooray
Never a Halloween Boo for you
You're a teacher kind and sweet
So we mean it when we say:
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I have always given gift certificates. I have posted a couple of gift certificate booklets in my gallery today. I also added a tutorial to my blog so you'll know how to make them.
Another teacher checking in here!
All the little teacher gifts i see in the gallery are just adorable. so I agree with previous posts that any little something will be appreciated! It's nice to have parents that are willing to make us something special!
I am a school bus driver and it has been freezing here in Ma for the past few days...one of my kids gave me a hot cocoa kit with a really nice card saying thank you for picking me up in a nice warm bus and getting me to school safely! I also got something like this last year only with a Dunkin Donuts gift card to get a warm coffee and keep me warm! I thought both were so sweet! I love baked goods too!
