Default Need to get up to date!

Hi everyone,

I'm been out of the loop for over a year now. I have some really big life changes, and finally everything is settling down. I haven't been able to stamp or anything!

So with that said, the last big thing/product that I was into was the Misti. Can you guys help me out here and list some new trends, products, companies, etc. to get me up to speed?

I really, really would be grateful!

Thank you.

Distress Oxide Inks! Here's a post I did with them and regular Distress ink:

I second the Distress Oxides. I keep playing with them and having the best time! There is a TON you can do with them. Google some YouTube Videos. As far as companies, Hero Arts has come out with some amazing layering stamps in their catalog, and their My Monthly Hero has been AMAZING the past couple of months. I'm never disappointed and always have to have some of their add ons. I love Lawn Fawn and MFT and they have had some cute stuff come out this Spring/Summer too. So glad you have time to come back to crafting!

Glad you are able to take it up again now! Welcome back.

Hmmm over the past year....

I dont have them but I do see the Oxides everywhere. (There have not been any new Distress colors in the main line)

I see a lot of people die cutting words 4x and stacking them for a thick piece or other small shapes.

Nuvo crystal drops-they have a lot of different types now but I *think* crystal was the first one. The idea is you can make your own dots with them instead of buying them.

Gilding flakes

I see a little embossing paste with stencils. (revival)

Also some use of Yupo paper with alcohol inks.

"Turning" product-stamps, stencils. You use it, rotate it 1/4, use again, keep repeating. One popular one:

https://concordand9th.com/products/triangle-turnabout

The layering/multi step stamps are everywhere now...made much easier with the Misti.

Watercolring has continued to build up. Zig markers, inktense pencils, and a couple of brands of WC paints. But we can also do this with any WC pen (ie tombows) or distress re-inker...pop a drop on your worksheet add water...

Sliders-the image "slides" on the card.

for themes I want to say mermaids.....I feel like I have seen more succulents....

Other people will know that better than me.

Distress Oxides, for sure, and the second set of 12 is about to be released. I think Jennifer McGuire has the most complete video I've seen on technique...oh man, are they fun to play with!!

Owls were everywhere for a while, then foxes...now cute and punny animals seem to be on everyone's radar. MFT and Taylored Expressions are my go-to companies for those. (but then, I love making cards with puns...)

Plaid papers have been a mainstay over the past year...black and white stripes/patterns have also been an accent paper I've seen a lot, and not just Amy Rysavy.

Layering stamps, yes. Several companies doing more and more of this. IMO Altenew is still the best at the detailed ones, although Hero Arts is doing some amazing sets in the last 6-8 months as well. They've also done some interesting partial die cut shapes...I can't decide if I like them or not...

Everyone has their own ink line - which seems like overkill to me. I am loving the newish trend of ink cubes. On my wish list is something larger than the storage tray that holds 12 cubes. Are you listening Tim Holtz???

If you haven't done so already, do check out the Misti stamp positioner. ;)
Misti even has a partner forum here at SCS so you can get a lot of info in one place quickly ... not to mention mega-many-lots of videos to be found.

Oh! Thanks Bev for the reminder-MISTI came out with special corner pieces to provide more positioning options.

Sequins are the new embellishment and are less bulky than than jewels and pearls. Decorative dots have replaced brads.

Good catches! Even though I still use them! I also like the new little drops that look like water drops - smaller versions of what we used to buy that were called dewdrops way back when.

I have noticed a big trend for sea-themed & beach-themed stamp & die sets - mermaids & mermans, fish, crabs, starfish, octopus, shark, narwhals, beachy-type images, palm trees, boats - all types of sea creatures and sea plants. There are even some fish layering sets. Saw a set recently with seagulls which is just so adorable!

Zig clean color real brush markers - and many people discovered that they work best of Strathmore Bristol smooth white cardstock because they blend more easily then on regular watercolor paper.

Lots of interactive cards - and dies to help you make them eg: magic sliders & discs that go in them, other slider dies, spinner circle dies, lift the flap dies etc. Shaker cards and Chibitronics (little circuits you attach to your card with batteries and a light(s) so that you can add a fun light-up element to your card.

Even more stitched dies - anything from clouds to ocean waves to flowers to your basic shapes with inside & outside stitching.

Foiling

Galaxy backgrounds

Vellum - sent lot of cards with vellum and in particular, sentiments stamped on vellum.

White heat-embossed sentiments. In the past, I have mostly stamped sentiments in black but I have seen so many white heat-embossed sentiments recently and I just love how it looks

Even more cute critters: foxes, bunnies, unicorns, cats & dogs and lots of African animals, eg: giraffe, elephant, monkeys, alligators, lions, sloth, leopards, toucans.

Popsicle, icecream in a cone stamps and layering sets

Even more variety in large sentiment dies - some with several layers and some with matching stamps as well.

So much been happening and so much fun to see what a fantastic variety of things we can choose from

It's supposed to start shipping to vendors July 9. I've seen some reviews by people that purchased in the UK and they love theirs!
