I will be graduating from college at the end of next month and was thinking about making my own graduation announcements. Would this be some sort of etiquette violation?
I was looking at the ones offered by my school, but they are so plain and generic. And they will only let me list one degree. I also want to change up the wording a bit, as I want these to be announcements more than invites. Most of the recipients will not be attending the ceremony, but I still want to share the news with them. After all it was four years of hard work while being a SAHM to five, I am very proud of the fact I am finally graduating.
I say go for it - it is a grand accomplishment to graduate from college and why not tell everyone! I made High school grad announcements for my daughter that I sent to those out of state relatives that would not be able to come to the ceremony/party and they thought they were very nice! I just worded it - we proudly announce the graduation of our daughter - the name of the school and the date........and included her senior picture.
Congrats! You are right. Your hard work deserves a special handmade announcement!! My daughter is graduating from high school and she wouldn't even look at the printed announcements and told me I had to make hers!! Hope you will show us what you make!
Congratulations on getting your degrees! I think it is a fabulous idea since you can really personalize them and make only as many as you will need. I wish I had done that for my son when he finished high school. Make sure you post your announcement!
Agree with everyone. Having hand-made announcements really elevate your achievement. So, so much better than the standard. I plan to make the announcements when my DD graduates high school. Also, I wanted to say congratulations and GOOD FOR YOU!! An education is something you carry with you your entire life. A great example for your children.
i made the announcements for my daughter's graduation from college. i have NO idea why i didn't photograph them and add it to my gallery [WHAT was i thinking?]. they weren't very fancy, or frilly, but i was able to add more info (like you want to do) and they were a little less expensive to make than buy.
Congratulations on such a wonderful acheivement!
I made our daughter's highschool graduation announcements.....I included some personal
acheivements and sent a pic along with them......we didn't have a party but was
just announcing her graduating..........they were very well received!
I did invitations to 8th grade graduation and thought I'd show you what those looked like. Used the school colors and a watermark of the school mascot- the Phoenix- under the text. Other than the fancy fold, the rest is pretty simple.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and congratulations. I decided I will be making my own announcements, the big question now is what will they look like. I hope to work on different designs that are in consideration over the weekend, during homework breaks.
The announcements are fantastic! My DD is also in 8th grade. Their school doesn't do any kind of ceremony, but they put on a homecoming/prom like dance for the 8th graders.

I've been doing the 8th grade graduation dance invitations for my children's grade school for the past few years. I have a few samples in my gallery if you'd like some ideas. They keep the same color scheme every year, but I try to come up with something new for them each year.
