I have a few tools that I own two of. Because I lose them under crafty layers so often and I hate having to stop what I'm doing to clean up.
But then I get to where I've lost both.
I've heard it said that some people work very neatly. But I personally think that must be a myth. Like Big Foot.

I've been there many times... I even lost my ATG for a while until I finally found it under a stack of paper I had been intending to put away.
Ok, now that's a BIG item LOL. This stuff drives me nuts especially when I 'just had it' and I turn around to do something and go back to my desk and it's gone ::gasp:: and I cannot find it ANYWHERE and I know it cannot just walk away..............too funny you guys

Not many. I got those cheapish desk organizers and now scissors, ATGs, other tools I frequently lose on my table have a portable home that moves from my storage cabinet to my workspace.
I prefer the Fiskars with orange handles and coated blades. I have one pair that stays in my rolling tote, two pairs that stay on my workbench and one upstairs in the computer desk. I got tired of looking for them every time I needed them.

Yes, I lose those too under piles of scraps that I need to sort... I now have at least one pair of reading glasses in each room of the house.
My glasses have a rather strong prescription, but I have always preferred to read and do any close up work without them. I do a lot of my crafting without them, and then have a real problem when I go to find them under a heap of stuff, partly because it's hard for me to see them, lol.

Love all these comments! But it's really, really bad when you have "lost" your reading glasses.....and find them sitting right there on your nose, lol.

When I can't find what I need, I force myself to clean off the table. Somehow, a clean table always inspires me to work again. I just cleaned half my room today and voila. Now I want to stamp like crazy. I keep telling myself when the other half of my room is cleaned up, I can, but I have a sinking feeling I'm going to be stamping before that. *blush*
I did finally learn to put a long ribbon on my scissors so I can drape them over my neck for most work and they pull on and off easily enough for when I can't. It works 86 or 86% of the time...
This is such a messy hobby, isn't it LOL?!! I have learned (like everyone else), to have 2 of everything - 2 steel rulers, 2 pairs of scissors, 2 pokey-tools, 2 erasers - I just need 2 brains!
I once finished a card for my Mum's birthday in the morning and put it aside on my desk to let the glitter glue dry. When I went back to my desk just after lunch to pick it up and write in it, it was GONE! I was going to Mum's that very same day to give it to her and I searched like crazy and nearly went nuts in the process! My DH was wondering what on earth I was doing with all my muttering and exasperated noises as I moved stuff around trying to find it. Nope - it didn't surface - and I had to BUY a card on the way to Mum's! The darn card turned up 2 years later when it "fell" out of a folder in another room - and I STILL can't figure out how it got there! Surprisingly, it wasn't damaged or bent, so I was able to give it to Mum for her birthday last September.
OK, so in 2009 I lost my glasses. I need then to drive and to see distance or if I'm at a movie theater.
I searched and searched the whole house. I had to drive with my sunglasses, even at night.
Finally after a week I gave up and went and got a new pair of precription glasses.
Guess what -- I found them in 2013. I must have been crafting, and I took them off for the close work. I must have put them in to one of my ribbon storage holders (I guess so I wouldn't crunch them on the table.) After my craft session was over, I put the ribbon holder back on the shelf.
This year, I went to use those ribbons (I have lots and lots of ribbon and had been using everything but this exact holder) and lo and behold, there were my glasses! Of course my prescription has changed since then and so have the styles -- I could not believe I finally found them!

Glad I am not the only one who loses things for years LOL!

And all this time I thought I was duplicating supplies because I didn't remember that I'd already bought it! Amen to the 2 brains.
What a great, fun thread! I once lost the piece I was working on while getting side tracked looking for embellishments. Took over half an hour to find it!
I Thank everyone for my daily laugh! Losing things on a work table is obviously a common problem, so I have to lay blame on craft fairies. The little buggers like to hide things when you are not looking. Don't believe in fairies? Have you ever wondered how you go into your jewelry box to take out a necklace only to find it entangled with 4 other necklaces, jewelry fairies! Just a theory.
