Default How do you do that?

I am new to the card making biz. I haven't been able to figure out how to get that soft edge of ink around my layers. I tried just gently touching my inkpad to the paper today, but all that did was leave an ink mark in the shape of my dewdrop inkpad. Are you using a sponge or daubers? Everyone's cards always look so wonderful. Sometimes I see a whole cut shape inked. Especially when it is still in the nestie die cut. I would love any helpful hints. Thanks again!!!!

Hi, I've found the best way is with sponges. Stampin Up has a pack of three for $3.50. You cut them wedges and they go a loooong way! I get quite a few wedges out of one sponge. I've also heard of using make-up sponges but I didn't get as good of results with those. Good Luck and welcome to stamping!

I don't usually bother with sponges unless I want a greater depth of sponging than normal. Personally I just stick with my ColorBox Cats Eyes if I just want enough sponging to add definition to the layer. I just drag the edge of the card along the top of the pad.

I prefer the sponge daubers that go on the end of your finger. I get much more control that way, and it's a softer look because the sponge head is much finer. I hold my cardstock in the air and lightly tap or drag the sponge on the edge.

The larger sponges I use for dabbing larger amounts of color (for perhaps distressing the whole card front)

I have the sponges from SU (and agree that they DO go a long way!) or those sponge "wedges" that you buy in the makeup section at Target.

I just use a cotton ball I've rubbed on my ink pad---start with a little and add more as needed!!

You can also just rub the inkpad along the edge of your paper in a gentle, sliding motion. A little practice on scrap paper should be all you need to get the technique. Good luck and have fun with your stamping.
