Question How do I use "stickers" on a card without it looking ?juvenile?

I was cleaning out some of my "crafting" drawers and found some cute peel-and-stick Suzi's Zoo stickers and some other cute stickers of florals, dogs, seahorses etc.

How can I incorporate these (so cute!!!!) stickers onto a card without it looking like a little kid just slapped a sticker onto a pretty background?

Is this even done--do you incorporate stickers into your card crafting art work?

Should I showcase the sticker by putting it on a lovely background and then do a frame around it so it will be an accent point along with a die cut design or a die cut "Thank you" or whatever on a paper or stamped background? Maybe I'm not explaining myself too well.

Would love to be directed to a page or site to see some examples of this for inspiration.

Thank you!!!!!

I have a ton of darling Stickers!!! Suzy Zoo was one of my favorites!!!
I was planning to parcel them out to my Grandson who is almost 3 years old
And a "sticker fiend".
Looking forward to finding out how to make cute cards with them.
I have enough to make cards and spoil him!!

I've used stickers successfully, (I think) on cards. The trick is to mount them on a layer, like a stamped image, so they don't look like you just slapped a sticker on the cardstock. If the sticker is one of those that are more rigid, and not just paper, I use foam tape to pop them up. Here are some examples from my gallery:

I love stickers and use them on the inside of my cards mostly.

I try and match them with what's on the front or what the theme is of the card. They're like little accents to the sentiment and most of my stickers are smaller ones. I have lots that are 3D and have glitter and layers. One or two placed on the inside adds a nice touch to where you'd write a note, etc.

You can also use glossy accents on them to make them look like enamel or epoxy. Then use foam tape.

I have a card here created with a sticker as a focal image and I talk a little about my process:
Creative Cardsea: BW- Panda Love

I have a lovely collection of stickers from Doodlebug that fit my card style great. I use them the same way I would use an image I stamped and die-cut. If I don't want to adhere it straight down on a panel, I brush the back with my anti-static powder tool to get the sticky off and then use foam tape to pop it up.

I've also often used letter stickers/thickers, as well as sticker sentiment strips as card sentiments. Stickers are really great for this, as I can experiment with a specific look/style (ex. typewriter-type sentiments) without needing to invest in a big stamp set that I'm not sure I'd use. Quite a few companies have sticker sets for planners that work just fine for cards, too. So, I've got a collection of fun stickers to use up.

Lastly, I plan to use some of the bigger stickers in art journal pages. Combined with mixed media, they never feel completely out of place. And if I ever really like a look or technique, I could try it on a mixed-media card, too.

Hope that helps!

I try to put a sticker that sort of goes with my front theme on the back of my card, above my name. I've done that on almost all of my cards. I just started using them on my envelopes, and that looks pretty nice too.

Welcome to SCS!

I am really glad you asked this question, I was recently given some pretty Penny Black ones but had no idea what to do with them. I am visual too. The idea of mounting them on CS was given to me...and I too thank you Dina for that link which I promptly bookmarked!

As Wavejumper said, Penny Black makes some stickers that are wonderful on cards; I particularly like her Christmas ones. Go to the web and search for "images Penny Black sticker cards" and you'll get some ideas for how to use hers. Plus, add some stickles in appropriate places and you'll perk the image up nicely. I've also used Dooblebug's cute stickers to make baby cards. Hope you'll try it.

Oh, I always peel off the Penny Black's stickers and mount them on white paper first and then trim. It makes the sticker sturdier and can be popped up then if you wish. Also, the white backing keeps the sticker bright, versus putting it on kraft or colored paper. That just didn't work for me.

I too put stickers on the inside of a card and also on envelopes.

Fun note about Suzy Spafford (Suzy's Zoo creator).....she was on the Foundation Board of the local hospital where I volunteer at. When we opened our NICU unit about 25 years ago, she gave the hospital her pencil drawings of various scenes of her characters drawn as babies and drawn helping babies. The pencil drawings and their "finished, colored drawings" were framed side-by-side and mounted on the hallway outside of the NICU so family and friends could see them. A huge hit with everyone!

That's a great idea, dfmorgan, about how to make the stickers a bit sturdier--thanks! Smhtwin, what a wonderful story about Suzy Spafford and her "baby" drawings for the hospital!

I use stickers too! If you look at store bought cards anymore they have some "pop outs" that look like stickers!
